As a discipline, social work fulfills the social welfare mission to encourage well-
being and quality of life. It involves activities aimed at improving human and social
conditions and easing human suffering and social issues by improving the skills and
functioning of individuals, the ability to access social support and resources, the
development of social services that are compassionate and sensitive, and the extension
of social systems that provide opportunities for all people.
