4 Sulfur dioxide reacts with calcium carbonate to produce calcium sulfite (CaSO3) and

(a) Write a balanced chemical equation for this reaction.

(b) A large coal-fired power station produces 960 tonnes of sulfur dioxide each
year. Calculate the mass of calcium carbonate (in tonnes) needed to react with

9 When sulfur is heated with iron, iron(II) sulfide is formed:

In an experiment, 5.6 g of iron and 4 g of sulfur are heated.

(a) What substances are found at the end of the experiment? [S, FeS]

Fe is present in lower amounts, since mole ratio is 1:1, Fe will be fully used up.
