The Guilford-Zimmerman Interest Survey attempts to produce a test of comprehensive
evidence concerning interest patterns and their vocational implications. It aims to uncover the testee’s interests, abilities, skills, motivations, values, and other personal factors that help them self-define and construct their career (Harrington and Long, 2012). The present subject has scored 8, 2, 22, 36, 42, 39, 31, 1, 12 and 12 in the categories Natural, Mechanical, Scientific, Creative, Literary, Artistic, Service, Enterprising, Leadership, and Clerical respectively. The corresponding percentiles with reference to appropriate norms are 7, 19, 69, 73, 99, 77, 64, 2, 17 and 54, respectively. The subject, therefore shows highest interest in Literary and second highest in Artistic interests. The testee has scored the lowest in Enterprising and second lowest in Natural interest. Literary Interests involves an appreciation of written and spoken language; interest in reading and writing; and preference for working with verbal materials so as to evaluate, use or improve them (Saikh and Parvin, 2017). The subject has scored a high score of 42 and a percentile of 99, suggesting that she has a preference for language, writing and speaking, and working with written materials. She has a competency in language abilities, and considers creating, evaluating, and promoting valued literary works as valued goals. Her possible vocations can be that of a librarian, translator, literary critic, journalist, writer, and editor. Artistic Interests involve an appreciation of beauty in art, music, dancing or drama, an interest in and desire to enjoy, evaluate or participate in the creation of works of art that have emotional or aesthetic appeal (Saikh and Parvin, 2017). The subject has scored the second highest score of 39 and a percentile of 77, which indicates that she has an inclination towards expressive, artistic activities, involving manipulation of physical, linguistic or natural materials for artistic creations. Her values and goals would include appreciation of beauty, to be responsible for artistic work and contributions which are aesthetically appealing. The subject is competent in expressive and artistic skills and her possible vocations could be that of music or art critic, interior decorator, actor, cartoonist and architect. Enterprising interests include interest in buying and selling, enjoyment of business dealings for their own sake, orientation toward a profit motive, willingness to assume risks for possible financial gains (Saikh and Parvin, 2017). The subject has scored the lowest in this Interest with a score of 1 and a percentile of 2. This alludes that the participant has next to no interest in manipulating consumer behaviour, has no competency in interpersonal persuasive skills. The subject does not consider economic gain and personal achievement as her values and goals. The subject is least likely to choose the vocations of businessperson, agent, sales person, realtor, buyer, treasurer and sports promoter. Natural Interest includes an interest in being outdoors, a desire to work with plants and animal, a concern for the protection of natural resources (Saikh and Parvin, 2017). The subject has a second lowest score of 8 in the above interest, and a percentile of 7. Thus, the subject has little interest in working outdoors, in natural settings and rugged environments. The subject has a comparatively low competency in strong, physical and practical skills, and has less knowledge of natural or biological surroundings. The subject does not consider freedom of movement in natural settings, and protection of land and wildlife as values and goals. The subject, therefore, is less likely to go for vocations such as farmer, gardener, agricultural inspector, fish and wildlife manager, and park ranger. Hence, the emperical measurement of interests forms the basis of directing participants towards their preferred fields and vocations, with the GZII. The present subject has scored 8, 2, 22, 36, 42, 39, 31, 1, 12 and 12 in the categories Natural, Mechanical, Scientific, Creative, Literary, Artistic, Service, Enterprising, Leadership, and Clerical respectively, with the highest score in Literary and the Lowest Interest in Enterprising Interests.
