Summary

thirty-six questions that lead to love.

Notes

See the end of the work for notes

“absolutely not!”

“and why the fuck not?”

“because!” jimin points an accusing finger at taehyung. jimin’s lying down on his bed, reading an
article about some 36 questions that lead to love that taehyung had asked him to read. “i am not
going to sit down with some stranger and answer personal questions for your own benefit.”

“come on, jeongguk isn’t a stranger. he’s a nice kid,” taehyung presses, sitting down on the edge of
jimin’s bed. he has his puppy eyes on and taehyung should know better that jimin isn’t going to be
easily persuaded — even with those eyes. “its not only for my own benefit! its the project that will
make or break me, you’ll be helping my future kids. my firstborn will forever be indebted to you, so
please, please, please—“

“ok first,” jimin puts his phone away, his eyes set on taehyung. “i don’t know this jeongguk guy, so
basically we are strangers. it’s going to be so awkward and i do not want to be put in that kind of
situation. thank you very much. and second, you’re so dramatic, don’t think i don’t know that this
project only consists ten percent of your overall grade. do something else, or pick someone else.”

“only ten percent you say?” says taehyung, flabbergasted. he has his hand on his chest, clearly hurt
that jimin is talking about his grades lightly. “ten percent is still a lot, like what if — god forbid — i
almost failed the entire module and the ten percent could have possibly helped me. what are you
going to say to that huh?” he pokes jimin’s socked feet and jimin kicks it away. “also! i do not have
anyone else, you’re my one and only friend!”

“liar,” jimin clicks his tongue. “the whole campus are your friends.”

taehyung grumbles, frustrated that jimin is being persistent. but taehyung is not going to back down
without a fight, he has one more trick up his sleeve. “remember that time when—“

“fuck off!” jimin kicks taehyung off his bed, the other groaning in pain on the floor. “don’t you dare
finish that sentence or i will personally castrate you and ask a witch to kick you into the deepest
depth of hell.”

“i think that’s much better than failing.”

“you’re not going to fail,” jimin assures, scrambling from his bed to look down at taehyung who is
lying star-fished on the cold hard floor. he’s looking up at the ceiling, his expression defeated and
lips downturned.

“i am and its all because of you.” taehyung huffs, still not sitting up. he looks like a child and jimin
feels slightly guilty for kicking him out of his bed. but, taehyung was asking for it when he tries to
open his big mouth and mention the one thing that shall never, ever be mentioned. they had spit
handshake on it, promises sealed to never ever bring the atrocious and embarrassing moment that
happened during their sophomore year in high school. buried six feet down under and just letting it
be some godforsaken history. but no, he should know that taehyung would bring it back up for his
own benefit.

“i’m still not going to do it,” jimin’s hard-headed, if taehyung thinks he’ll be swooned easily to agree
to this ‘experiment’, then he’s wrong.

he was just lounging in his room, watching some cute cats videos on youtube until his peace was
broken when taehyung slammed the door to his room open, demanding him to read an article about
‘the 36 questions that will lead to love’ and okay, it was pretty intriguing until taehyung said that he
wanted him to be in the experiment with some stranger he haven’t met before. although taehyung
had convinced, that this jeongguk is a good friend of him, he is still a stranger to jimin and jimin, as
he skimmed through the questions that are divided into three sets, he’d rather jump off a building
than sit down with a stranger and answering these interpersonal questions. he valued his privacy
thank you very much but taehyung is stubborn, as stubborn as jimin is.

“come on~” taehyung whines, sitting up and ruffling his hair out of frustration. his face is scrunched
up and he looks constipated. “do you want me to die?”

“you’re not going to fucking die,” jimin rolls his eyes, moving his blanket off to stare directly into
taehyung’s eyes. he needs to set his authorities straight, that he’s not, never going to agree to do the
experiment for taehyung even though they’re like bffs, his ride or die bro. nope.

“i am about to,” he says dramatically. “i would literally beg you to agree!”

“please don’t.”

“i will!”

“no, i am not going to do it even if you’re gonna cry blood all over my floor.”

“you’re mean,” taehyung huffs.

“i’m not mean for not agreeing to do this tae. besides, does this jeongguk guy even agree to do this?”

“don’t you worry about jeonggukie, i have him wrapped around my finger, i’m his favorite hyung,
he’ll agree in a heartbeat. you on the other hand,” taehyung points an accusing finger up at jimin.
he’s sitting cross-legged on the floor, taehyung’s trying to act all serious, his expression stern but
jimin can never take him seriously with the unicorn shirt he has on. “is being difficult!”

“i am not being difficult. i am being reasonable.”

“being reasonable as in, letting your one and only soulmate fail a project.”

“why does it have to be me?” jimin asks again. he’s starting to get annoyed to the point that he’s this
close to just say yes so taehyung can just leave him alone.

“because you’re my best friend for life and best friend for life always have each other’s back. it’s in
the code, don’t try to break the status quo —“

“status quo — you’re slowly losing your mind —“

“maybe i already did and its all your fault,” taehyung’s lips wobbles a bit and jimin refuses to fall for
it because he knows he’s a good actor. “do it for me please?” under the lights, taehyung’s eyes
glisten and its fucking unbelievable how he’s able to switch his expression this easily and jimin isn’t
going to lie that his heart starts to waver little by little. “pretty please?” he asks softly.

jimin sighs, a groan escaping his throat as he slumps back on his bed. he’s thinking of it. “what’s in it
for me?” he’s still not agreeing fully per se, he wants to know how taehyung is going to pitch his
persuasion in order for jimin to agree. and he knows taehyung knows better not to mention of past
history that shall never ever be mentioned or jimin won’t hesitate to throw him out the window of his
dorm.

taehyung lights up, the crestfallen expression he has on his face earlier vanished into thin air. “you’ll
have a chance to fall in love and not complain about you being a single nerd.”

“are you trying to convince me or otherwise?” he eyes taehyung, his stare cold and hard. “because i
am so tempted to say no again.”

“come on! what could i have possibly give you? do you want my firstborn? my bank account pin? all
of my heart and soul? everything that i have to offer? or —“

“ok, shut up,” jimin stops him with a gesture, his head starting to ache with taehyung’s continuous
rambling. he just wants to go on with his day with watching more cute cats videos on youtube in
peace. he’s not thinking it with a clear mind when he answers, “fucking fine. now shut up and leave
me the fuck alone.”

its when taehyung whoops and jumps around in his room, walking out the door with a satisfied look
on his face that it dawns on him. what the fuck had he put himself in.

the weather is cold. air crisped and sharp as jimin reaches for the door to a place that taehyung had
asked him to come at a specific time. he’s late by the knick of time. the building is bland, grey and
dark, an industrial look to it and jimin is questioning how taehyung knows this place. he gets into the
first door and the atmosphere is different than the exterior look of the whole building. its a small
space, decorated in an all white furniture. in the middle of it all there’s a coffee table, decorated in
white roses and a teapot placed in the center.
“seriously, what is all this?” jimin asks, removing his jacket and placing it at the arm of the couch.

“the place is so cute right?” taehyung says instead, ignoring jimin’s question. he’s seated on the floor,
fixing his camera on a stand and jimin raises his eyebrow.

“what’s the camera for?”

taehyung scoffs, standing up when he finished propping whatever tools he needed to get this
experiment going. “i need to record the whole thing, that’s the whole point.”

jimin groans. he takes a seat at one of the pillows placed on either side of the coffee table. the room
smells like mint and green tea and its relaxing. “that’s gonna be so awkward,” he looks around,
“where’s this jeongguk guy anyway?”

taehyung rolls his eyes. “its not gonna be awkward, besides i already know every little embarrassing
thing about you so let loose.” he placed two pieces of paper on the table, jimin eyes it. “jeongguk’s
running a little late, he’s on his way though.”

“jeongguk doesn’t know every little thing about me,” jimin runs his fingers through his hair. “i can’t
believe you managed to talk me into this. i hate you.”

“i hate you too,” he says casually. taehyung gets back to his spot behind the camera, he has a
notebook in his hand, he’s wearing his glasses and it makes him look like a full-pledged producer.

jimin isn’t exactly nervous per se, but he is worried as he reads through some of the questions that
taehyung had printed out. some of them are sort of fun but as he reads through the sets of questions,
it gets rather personal as the list goes on. he doesn’t get the idea how these questions would lead to
love, is it like, knowing stuffs about a certain stranger would automatically make you fall in love? he
doesn’t get the experiment but taehyung is always having weird, strange ideas for his project and this
is just one of them. he guesses this is the better ones unlike that time when he asked jimin to help him
with his vlog of getting people to reject him for a hundred days. that was humiliating but jimin can’t
deny that he had learned valuable lessons through it.

the front door opens then and honestly, jimin doesn’t know what to expect when he finally meets
jeongguk. he had seen him in one of taehyung’s flurry of photos that he had posted on instagram and
his first initial impression of jeongguk is that: he looks like a typical bad boy. but he guesses, people
are different in social media photos than they are in real life because, one, jeongguk is a mess. he
trips on his foot as soon as he enters through the doors. his hair is a whirlwind of strands and he’s
sneezing loudly, his nose scrunched up and jimin finds it utterly endearing.

“jeongguk, the other main man!” taehyung declares, gesturing his hand for jeongguk to sit down
across from jimin.

“hi hyung,” jeongguk smiles, his eyes moving with his lips, turning into crescents. he turns around
before he walks towards the coffee table. “and hello,” he greets jimin, a shy smile donning his lips.

“hello,” jimin says back. “did you get forced to do this by taehyung too?”

jeongguk sits down on one of the pillow. he fixes his hair, taming the mess of tangled strands. the
huge window behind him, with sunlight filtering in through the naked glass, makes him look very
innocent. like an angel coming down to earth — and jimin stops his thought, shakes his head at the
ridiculous idea his head is coming up with.

“i guess so —“
“jeongguk is easier to persuade unlike someone i know,” taehyung says mockingly. “i’m gonna start
rolling the camera when i clap my hands. before we start, any questions?”

“wait — you’re just gonna start?” jimin asks, looking at his best friend with a panicked look.

“um — yeah?”

“don’t we have to like, introduce each other first?” he points at himself and jeongguk. the air is
relaxed but jimin’s heart is not.

taehyung grins and jimin doesn’t like the look on his face one bit. there’s just always something
taehyung is up to. jeongguk who is sitting across from himself is looking at their interactions with a
wide-eyed look. “you guys can do that while the camera is rolling, duh.” he answers matter-of-factly.
“just pretend like the camera and me isn’t here. get lost in your own world and fall in love.”

jimin doesn’t miss the way jeongguk’s ears turn red, he’s blushing. jimin is this close from standing
up to run towards taehyung and strangle him. “taehyung,” he says sternly, like a warning. “shut the
fuck up.”

taehyung cackles, looking satisfied and jimin wants to wipe that knowing look off of his face. “okay,
okay, i’m getting my serious face mask on,” his expression immediately turned straight and jimin
thinks it’s sort of terrifying. “you guys know the drill, there’s a paper in front of you both with the 36
questions on it. you can choose whatever questions you want in each sets —“

jeongguk raises his hand and jimin can’t help but think that he’s absolutely adorable. sitting there,
wearing his oversized white t-shirt, hair in disarray with his hand up trying to catch taehyung’s
attention. “do we have to go through all of the questions?”

taehyung shrugs, “if you guys want to, i’m not stopping you guys but it would take forever since i
want you both to answer the questions diligently and honestly, so,” he turns to look at jimin, “don’t
give jeonggukie shitty answers okay jiminie?”

jimin rolls his eyes and he can hear jeongguk chuckling. “don’t tell me what to do.”

“see what i have to deal with everyday here jeonggukie?”

jeongguk laughs, “yeah, i can see that.”

jimin gives jeongguk a glare and the other has the audacity to give him a cheeky smile. jimin wants
to pinch his cheeks honestly.

“okay, okay,” taehyung speaks, clapping once and twice. “play times over — ready, set, action!” his
voice booms throughout the room.

taehyung doesn’t give them time to get ready. he’s literally the worst. jimin feels like he’s been put
on the spot, jeongguk had turn awkward and honestly, screw everything. things wouldn’t go
anywhere if the both of them decided to stay mum the whole time. taehyung would flick their
foreheads if it comes to that. but in all seriousness, taehyung isn’t doing anything helpful, he’s just
looking at them both, eyes shifting from jimin and jeongguk, hands gesturing for them to talk and oh
— right — they have to introduce each other. he just wishes the camera isn’t there though because
when it’s still not rolling, it’s kind of relaxing, the thought that everything is on tape makes him feel
queasy like — great, awesome, jimin’s humiliating moment is now caught on tape.

“so…” he drawls his word, focusing his attention on jeongguk and there’s just something in the way
that jeongguk is looking at him that sends tingles up his spine. no matter how shy he’s looking,
jeongguk’s eyes never leave his. “i’m park jimin,” he smiles.

jeongguk’s expression mirrors his and it looks like his nerves are calming down, his grin soft. “and
i’m jeongguk, it’s nice to meet you jimin-ssi.”

jimin laughs, “just call me hyung.”

jeongguk scratches the back of his neck. “ahh okay.”

“so, do you want to get started?”

jeongguk nods. “yeah sure,” he’s eyeing the unmade tea bags placed on a small glass plate on the
table. “do you want to drink some tea?”

jimin doesn’t know why there’s a pot of tea on the table but he’s not complaining. it seems taehyung
had put a lot of thought of picking the place for the filming to take place, he should know that his
friend is prickled when it comes to details. he has this aesthetics set in mind and a college project
that’s only ten percent of his overall grade is no exception.

“sure, i love tea!” jimin says, tapping his finger on the table. “i like mint and green tea the most.”

jeongguk makes a disgusted expression. “i hate green tea,” jimin gasps at his confession. “but mint is
great, so mint it is.”

“green tea is literally the best! you just have no taste!”

“says the one who likes green tea,” jeongguk says mockingly. he’s putting the teabag inside the pot
and pours in hot water from the thermos from the table not too far from them. “how can you even
stomach green tea, it literally tastes like shit.”

“well,” jimin clicks his tongue. “i don’t like it originally but i had a phase when my skin literally
turns worst and i was googling how to calm it the fuck down and it says to drink green tea —“

“you should never trust anything google says.”

“hey!” jimin exclaims. “it really does help my skin, it tasted disgusting at first but i got used to the
taste and now i can’t live without it. green tea is my life.”

jeongguk looks revolted. he had finished making the tea and is now pouring it into the two cute little
cups. “i can’t believe you get used to the taste of shit.”

“its not shit! now that you put it that way it really sounds disgusting when its not. green tea doesn’t
deserve this slander.”

they’re bickering with one another and jimin thinks that he’s starting to get comfortable, more relaxed
than the first time jeongguk arrived. it almost feels like he’s talking to someone he’s met before, the
camera rolling doesn’t bother him anymore and taehyung is just sitting behind it, playing with his
phone occasionally but jimin can never miss the teasing lilt on his grin when he throws jimin one of
his infamous smile.

“it actually deserves the slander,” he slides one of the cup jimin’s way, the smell of mint goes straight
to his nostrils. “you literally have no taste.”

“okay, i get it,” jimin says, waving him off. he puts his hand around the cup, the warmth he feels
from the tea could battle the overgrowing coldness that’s happening outside the room. “you hate
green tea, i love green tea, can we answer some questions now?”

“sure,” jeongguk smiles like he hadn’t just insulted green tea — the best tea to ever exists — right in
front of him. “do you want to go first?”

jimin shrugs, “i don’t really mind. you can go first if you want.” he takes a sip of his tea and it tastes
refreshing. the paper is settled in front of him, his eyes giving it a scan.

“lets play rock, paper, scissor to decide,” jeongguk suggests, taking a sip of his own. he makes a
satisfied sound when he puts the cup down, he looks like a little plant, wiggling around. “the one
who wins goes first.”

jimin raises his eyebrow, especially endeared by jeongguk’s suggestion. he could just volunteer to go
first, end of question, but jimin decides to entertain him. he takes another sip of his tea. “okay. i’m
bad at it by the way.” jeongguk puts out a scissor and jimin a rock.

“bad my ass,” says jeongguk.

“that was just pure luck!”

“whatever you say,” jeongguk moves around on the pillow, making himself comfortable. “so,” he
drawls. “hit me with the question,” he smiles, staring directly at jimin with his big eyes, making jimin
feel flustered for a moment there. think of how he just insulted green tea, he insulted green tea. jimin
takes a deep breath. all is right in the world.

jimin picks the first question he sees from set 1. “given the choice of anyone in the world, whom
would you want as a dinner guest?”

“oh i can choose anyone?” jeongguk echoes. “well technically i would want justin bieber as a dinner
guest.”

jimin’s thankful he’s not drinking his tea when jeongguk answers or he would choke. he doesn’t
expect the answer. “justin bieber? why him?”

“why not him? i love his music to be honest, i would want to talk music over bbibbimyeon and
kimchi with him.”

“not only you have shitty taste in tea, you also have shitty taste in music.”

“hey!” jeongguk exclaims, sounding hurt. “bieber’s music is a jam. don’t tell me you’re never
pumped up when one of his songs came on the radio.”

“honestly,” jimin leans forward, his chest touching the edge of the table. “i never get pumped up.”

“oh my god,” jeongguk says in disbelief. “i cannot believe i’m sitting across a bieber hater.”

jimin laughs, so amused by jeongguk as the seconds tick by. “i mean, he’s actually the worst.”

“hate the person not the music.”

“what is that even supposed to mean?”

jeongguk just shrugs. “what about you? who would you like as a dinner guest?”

jimin thinks it carefully before he answers. “not anyone famous but my ex.”
jeongguk opens his mouth in surprise. he can hear taehyung cackling behind the camera at jimin’s
answer. “why your ex though?”

“because i would serve everything that he hates to eat.”

“you’re…” he eyes jimin, convulsed. “you’re a sadist but honest. why didn’t i ever think of that.”

“i’m a genius what can i say.”

jeongguk clicks his tongue. he clears his throat before he says, “okay, i’m next.” his eyes flicks
through the paper in his hold. “before making a telephone call, do you ever rehearse what you are
going to say? why?”

jimin hums, “well, not really. if i’m making a call to close friends or family, i don’t rehearse because i
am honestly comfortable around them already. i can just say whatever it is that i wanted to say. but
for strangers, or making important calls, then yes, i do rehearse because i don’t wanna say anything
wrong or stutter you know.”

“that’s interesting. you’re the opposite of me,” he chuckles lightly. “i’m so bad with phone calls,
people literally need to text me first before they call me or i wouldn’t answer. like, i hate phone calls,
it seriously gives me anxiety.”

“ahh, yeah, i can understand that, phone calls can be scary for some people.”

“i’m glad you get that. people sometimes make fun of me when i said i’m scared of phone calls and
that really made me feel like shit.”

“those people are being unnecessarily mean.”

“yeah, they’re jerks for making fun of my anxiety.” he beams at jimin, “i’m glad you get me.”

jimin doesn’t know what to say to that so he moves on to the next question. “what would constitute a
“perfect” day for you?”

“a day where there’s no assignments to do,” jeongguk answers without a beat.

“relatable because same.”

they laugh at each other and jimin is especially taken at the way jeongguk laugh, of how his eyes
turn into the tiniest of slits, like the baby moon. his teeth sticks out, the wrinkles around his eyes
prominent and jimin finds it hard to look away. he diverts his gaze when their laughter had died
down, jeongguk’s eyes follow him.

there’s a lull for a moment, before jeongguk goes through the question again. “next question!” he
utters, “when did you last sing to yourself? to someone else?”

“i sing to myself everyday.”

“you like to sing?”

jimin nods, “yeah—“

“jiminie has a nice voice!” taehyung says from where he is, he’s lying down on the floor, chest
down, and socked feet moving up and down.

“i’m decent,” jimin shrugs it off but he can’t lie that he likes the praise taehyung gives him. he always
welcomes it like someone who’s deprived of water. always hungry for any kind of praise, it makes
him feel appreciated, the feeling settles deep in his heart, makes him feel all warm like having hot
chocolate on a cold winter’s day.

“you should let me hear you sing someday.”

jimin thinks about it, the words jeongguk said makes him feel all flustered. “maybe,” he answers with
a shy smile set on his lips.

jeongguk doesn’t say anything to that, the silence settle between them like a soft summer breeze.

“so,” jimin starts, breaking whatever moment that hangs in the air. “this is a pretty long question,” he
says as he looks through the next question.

“i’m ready,” says jeongguk, looking like an eager child at disneyland.

“if you were able to live to the age of 90 and retain either the mind or body of a 30-year-old for the
last 60 years of your life, which would you want?”

“ooooh,” says jeongguk, tapping his chin in thought like he’s trying to answer that big exam that’ll
make or break him. “well, hmm, if the mind of a thirty year old i’m retaining is of valuable
knowledge then i would want that because i wanna be and feel smart, like how would that feel.
maybe i could find something that’s worthy for humanity and that would really last long than a body
that will decay overtime. you get what i mean?”

“yeah, yeah, absolutely. i get that, you’re really thinking of the world huh?”

“maybe i just want to change the world for a greater good.”

“ambitious,” jimin states, “i like that.” he doesn’t know why he says that but he’s glad jeongguk isn’t
taking his words so seriously. however, the flush on jeongguk’s cheeks are saying otherwise.

“this one’s a bit…” jeongguk trails, his eyes staring at the paper like it had burned him.

“a bit what?”

“it says; do you have a secret hunch about how you will die?”

“nope, nope, i have no idea how i will die and i don’t want to die so soon,” jimin answers quickly,
shaking his head.

jeongguk dissolves into quiet laughters, entertained by jimin’s reaction. “alright, i don’t wanna
answer that too anyway. don’t wanna jinx anything.”

“exactly!” jimin agrees. his tea is cold by now, there’s still half of it left, completely forgotten
because he feels like he’s been sucked into another dimension, so focused in answering the
questions, and the person questioning him. “so next, name three things you and your partner appear
to have in common.”

“oooh, let me think!” the entrance door is clicked open and shut but jimin is ignoring it, maybe
taehyung needs to have a bathroom break or something. “one, you and i can sing —“

“you can sing?”

jeongguk nods, “i’m decent,” he says, echoing jimin’s earlier words. “maybe we can sing together
sometime.”
“maybe,” jimin trails.

jeongguk looks at him with those pair of wide eyes and for a moment, he’s lost in them. “and two,”
jeongguk’s voice snaps him out of it. “we have the same sense of humor,” jimin snorts at that. “and
last one, hmm, i think you and me tried our best to understand the people around us.”

jimin makes a satisfying expression, clearly content with the answer jeongguk gives him. he doesn’t
know how long they’ve been sitting down like this, but it still feels short like they’re still answering
the first question. jeongguk, he learns in the short amount of time they’ve spent around each other is,
comforting and jimin is honestly interested in whatever he has to say for every little questions he’s
been asked. he answers them genuinely and sometimes his answers are something he never expects
from him. its refreshing, somehow.

before they know it, they’ve moved on to the second set of questions. they decided to take a break
before they continue, taehyung is lounging on one of the couches at the corner, his camera now on
pause. jimin and jeongguk still sits on the floor with jeongguk moving around so he can stretch his
leg out while jimin move to cross his legs, he extends his arms up, willing the knot he feels from
sitting down on the floor.

“so… how are you feeling?” jeongguk asks, his voice a little bit hesitant as if he hadn’t asked jimin a
much more personal question when the camera is rolling. its like, the confidence he had earlier just
poof into thin air.

“in general, or?”

“more like, have you fallen for me yet?” jimin scratches his earlier thoughts, the confidence jeongguk
had from earlier doesn’t just poof into thin air, its still in him. he knows jeongguk is joking but that
doesn’t mean he can’t blush, completely flustered by his straightforwardness.

“too early to say,” he managed to get out. “we still have a long way to go,” he tries at brushing it off
but jeongguk is looking at him, like he’s trying to unravel him.

“so does that mean i have a chance?”

“are you flirting with me?”

“maybe,” jeongguk answers vaguely and jimin ponders over his word when taehyung bounds back
up behind the camera.

“you guys look like you’re getting along well,” says taehyung with a knowing grin. “ready to
continue?”

“yes hyung,” jeongguk answers excitedly. “jimin-hyung is nice.”

“see, i knew you guys would get along well.”

“yeah, okay,” says jimin, feeling frazzled. his face heats up and he can feel taehyung staring a hole at
him. jeongguk on the other hand can’t seem to take his eyes off of him and he really doesn’t know
how to feel. he can’t help but to meet jeongguk’s eyes and every time, his heart does this mini flip. it
just doesn’t help at the fact that jeongguk is so cute. “moving on to the next question —“

“wait —“ taehyung cuts off. “need to press play first, okay, on the count of one, two and three —
go,” he mouths the last word and jimin rolls his eyes at his best friend’s dramatics.

“its my turn right?” jimin asks jeongguk and the other gives a simple nod, his eyes still not leaving
jimin. “how close and warm is your family? do you feel your childhood was happier than most other
people’s?”

“my family is very close, they’re very supportive of whatever i’m doing. i have so many fond
memories of my childhood. my hometown is busan —“

“no way!” jimin speaks up, “i’m originally from busan too!”

“wow, are we like soulmates?”

jimin flushes at the thought and taehyung cackles out loudly behind the camera. he gives his friend a
glare but taehyung doesn’t seem to get the hint as he say, “i’m pretty sure the both of you will start
going on dates once the question and answer is done.”

“shut up,” jimin says, diverting his gaze at jeongguk and he can’t decipher the look on his face so
instead of pondering over it long and hard he asks jeongguk to continue with his answer.

“so, yeah, i would say my childhood was happier than most other people’s, my parents spoiled the
heck out of me since i’m the youngest you know. but they also taught me to always stay grounded,
they made me into what i am today and i have never been thankful, they’re seriously so awesome.”

jimin rests his cheek in his palm, completely enamored by everything that jeongguk’s saying. he’s
feeling a lot of things, he walks into the room not expecting anything out of it but maybe, taehyung’s
right, he could probably score a date after this is done. it’s painfully obvious that jeongguk is flirting
with him and he’s not really against the idea.

“yeah, i can see that,” says jimin, filled with his thought that he doesn’t exactly know what he meant
by that but a part of him thinks that even though he’s only met jeongguk in less than a day, its
apparent that he’s a great guy. he’s genuine, and jimin can really see that.

jeongguk beams at him, his hands wrap around the already cold cup of tea. “my parents taught me
well,” he says proudly. he moves on to the next question. “how do you feel about your relationship
with your mother?”

jimin beams, thinking about his mom never fails to put a smile on his face. “we are very close, i tell
her almost everything, she’s my superhero.”

jeongguk smiles at him fondly and jimin can’t take his eyes off of him.

“wow,” taehyung speaks, breaking the silence alongside the moment. “we’re only like halfway
through the question and ya’ll are already doing the last thing this experiment asked you to do.”

jimin breaks eye contact with jeongguk, turning to stare at taehyung with an indignant look. “what?”

“you both are staring into each other’s eyes. that’s like the last task of this experiment, ‘stare into
each other’s eyes for four minutes,’ and you both are doing that already.”

“four minutes?” jimin and jeongguk says in unison.

“yeah, four minutes,” and to jimin’s surprise, taehyung is turning off his camera, ready to pack his
things up.

“wait, you’re done?” jimin asks, confused, and jeongguk is as equally confused.

taehyung nods his head, “seems like i got my work cut out for me.” he grins knowingly, wiggling his
eyebrows at the both of them. “if i hadn’t interrupt, you and jeongguk would still be staring into each
other’s eyes for god knows how long so i think i have concluded that the 36 questions that lead to
love is true as fuck.”

“we’re not in love,” jimin and jeongguk protest and they’re both a bit surprised at the way they say
things at the same time. jeongguk is looking at him wide-eyed, a little bit pink in the cheeks.

“damn,” says taehyung as he puts his camera inside his bag. “you guys even say the same things.”

“it was just a coincidence,” jimin retorts, huffing, his eyes turning slightly panicked when taehyung
stands up, ready to walk out of the room — and is he seriously just going to leave him and jeongguk
alone? “where are you going?”

“out, duh,” taehyung answers, like it hadn’t been obvious in the beginning. “i still have the room
booked for the next hour so —“ a wink, and jimin is seriously going to kill him after this, “use it
wisely.” and just like that, he’s out of the room, leaving jimin with his mouth gaped open.
unbelievable. his best friend is really unbelievable.

“uh,” jeongguk starts, scratching the back of his neck. “do you want more tea?”

jimin can’t help but to burst out laughing, jeongguk is looking at him like jimin has grown a pair of
horns.

“did i said something funny?”

“no —“ jimin shakes his head, “i mean, yes. oh god, what am i kidding, this whole situation is funny
and i’m just laughing because it’s funny. you’re funny.”

“well,” says jeongguk as he makes another fresh set of hot tea. “i’m glad you thought so. are you
going to leave too?”

there’s something in jeongguk’s eyes that made him shake his head — or maybe it was just his heart
talking. “no, there’s still an hour left anyway.” the things unsaid are pretty obvious and jeongguk’s
smile just sealed the deal.

(“oh my god,” taehyung is in his room, lying down on the floor with his laptop on his lap, squealing
like some teenager at a concert.

“i’m trying to work on my assignments, stop invading my room you dickhead!”

“no—“ says taehyung as he sits up, moving up the bed and placing the laptop right in front of jimin.
a paused video of jimin and jeongguk filling the screen. “but remember this!”

“fucking duh,” jimin rolls his eyes as if the experiment that taehyung had coerced him into doing is
very easy to forget.

“i still haven’t gotten my thanks.”

“why should i thank you?”

“because if its not for me, you would never have met the love of your life —“

jimin kicks taehyung off the bed, his best friend lying star-fished on the ground.)
