Performance Evaluations of My Activities

Internship work enabled me to assimilate practical aspects of theoretical knowledge that I

acquired in the class. From practical work I am experienced with office manner, workflow and
customer handling. I accomplished the tasks that I assigned in the branch with a good
performance and I was evaluated by the branch manager as per the CBE performance
management system.
Performance evaluation system of the bank depends up on the nature of duties and
responsibilities assigned for the performer. Accordingly the performance of my activities

depends up on the nature of duties and responsibilities assigned for me .

 I could understand how transaction is made
 I could understand the difference between domestic and foreign transaction
 I have good communication with others at work place
 To ask necessary data I could communicate with my manager from time to time etc.

2.2.1 Major Challenges and Problems that I faced during

internship
Since I am fresh for the job I have faced various challenges during the internship work. Some of
the problems that encountered me during the internship work time are summarized below:-

5
 At the beginning time they didn’t give me full freedom to do activities independently.
 Budget constraint- the budget does not provided by university is to cover my internship
costume linkage between university and the organization that I conducted internship is not
strong
 Negative thinking towards student’s internship work.
 Lack of knowledge about the office manner of the bank: - at the beginning time of the
practical work I have a little knowledge of the manner of the bank like wearing & working
time.
 Lack of knowledge about the work flow/process of the bank
 Lack of knowledge about the rules & directives of the bank
 Lack of skills about the customer handling of the branch Lack of computerized working
system.
 Shortage of additional working material for trainers like chair, computer.

2.2.2 Suggestion solutions taken to tackle the problems

In order to overcome the above problems I have took possible solutions to solve or minimize the
problems what I have faced. Such as:-

 Reading and understanding various documents like CATS Procedure, various Memo and
Manuals related with the bank work flow/process

 Organization should have to buy additional materials.

 The university should budget for internship . university should be actively involved in
assisting students in getting organizations where they conduct their attachment

 Making awareness about student’s internship work.

 The organization should give the opportunity for students to participate in a given activities freely
in order to improve their knowledge and producing self-confident professionals.

6
2.3 The strength and weakness of commercial bank of Ethiopia

Like any financial organizations Commercial bank of Ethiopia can also be affected by changing
environment. Therefore, it is necessary to know the strength and weakness of the bank. The
following are some of the strength and weakness analysis of commercial bank of Ethiopia;

2.3.1The strength of commercial bank of Ethiopia

 Good customer compliant handling
 Special focus on mass customer base
 Good efficiency and ethical conduct of staffs
 Existence of motivated, young & skilled manpower
 Good relationship with each other and with customers
 Having smart action plan.

2.3.2 The weakness of commercial bank of Ethiopia

 Shortage of material like chair table and computer for training staffs
 Lack of vehicle for consistent van based banking service
 Sometimes there is big connection problem that makes customer angry

2.3.3 The Problems of the amber branch and Suggested

Solutions
1. Frequent electric power failure and weak network system.
2. Size of the office is small-like most of CBE branches the building of the branch is rented from private
and is not enough to provide service.
3. Lack of awareness of customers about CBE.

4. Small number of Employees.

5. File management and documentation improperly among some workers

Suggested solutions
1. Substitute generator power when the electric power failed.
2. Giving awareness for the customers

7
3. Increase the number of employees etc.
4. Resource consumption way should be wise and manageable.

2.4 learning experience from internship report

Many of the theories and principles that we learned in the class are directly or indirectly related
with practical work that I observed. Let us see some of the theories and principles applied in the

.
work place Asset = liability + owners’ equity/Capital

The asset part of the branch accounts are registered in the Debit side of the banks General Ledger
& Journal. As customers deposit is liability for the bank it registered in the credit side of the
branch. All payable and income accounts are also registered in the credit side of the branches
journal. So the branches journal registration is registered as per the accounting equation
formula/balance sheet equation.
All branches transactions are made up of two entries in the accounts a Debit and a Credit. For
example if customer deposit money in his account cash would be debited and customers account
would be credited. Therefore I understand Double Entry Book Keeping principle practically. The
rational basic reason of internship is to produce highly qualified citizen in country, developing in
there competencies in the organization to make student to expose into actual working
environment and to familiarize with cost perspective employees.
 Familiarize class room learning theory with internship work in real working

environment.

 get a good practical skill

 Develop social relationship with the employee of the organization.

 Increase individual confidence

 develop knowledge of business problem identifier and solver.
 Help to see real world. Working environment

8
CHAPTER THREE: summary, conclusion and recommendation
3.1 Summary of the internship

The main objectives of this internship was to give students the opportunity to apply the
knowledge and skills they have acquired on campus in a real-life work situation, to expose
students to a work environment, common practices, employment opportunities and work ethics
in their relevant field, to strength linkages between university and employers, and to identify
challenges and problems that students will face on the job after they complete their academic
life.
Organizational background, its mission and vision, organizational structure, SW analysis, and
various challenges and problems that affect organization at current time of commercial bank of
Ethiopia amber branch has investigated in the internship.
The organization has the capacity and willingness to contribute to economic growth of the
country by mobilizing resources of the country.
Various challenges and problems that faced organization in general and commercial bank of
Ethiopia amber branch particularly in current time has investigated. Some of are, frequent
electric power failure and small size of the branch are the major challenges of commercial bank
of Ethiopia amber branch. ; However, I tried to do my best in order to overcome or give related
solution to those challenges. Generally, I gained some experience due to this internship such as
how to work in cooperation with other, etc.

3.2 conclusions

The internship ascertains that creating strong relation between university and employers has
great advantages for students, university and generally for the society. Many Ethiopian higher
education institutions do not create internship chance for their students. Rather they focused
on teaching theoretical part and that creates challenges for the students in their employment
after they complete academic life.

On the other hand many challenges and problems observed in the organizations where the internship
was conducted and knowing challenges and problems of organizations may develop problem solving skill

9
of the students. Therefore, conducting internship is important for students, university, employers and
for society generally.

3.3 Recommendation

While doing my internship, I observe some issue in lens of my eyes. Therefore, I would like to
suggest on some issues that I observed during accomplish my internship in at commercial bank
of Amber. Firstly, I would like to suggest on the effort of the office toward promoting
development of bank system study area. Banking system is the process of treating every banking
activity and is also way creating relationship with customer.
Based on the findings of the internship, the following are recommended for the concerned
organizations:-
 The university should increase duration time of the internship
 Service excellence is useful for commercial bank of Ethiopia to compete with private
banks. The bank should expand modern banking service specially E-banking service to
its customer;
 Commercial bank of Ethiopia should give due attention for research and development;
 Commercial bank of Ethiopia should take action to mobilize and collect resources from
growing economy of the country;
 The university should provide adequate budget for internship;
 The university should strength linkages with organizations where the internship
conducted;
Finally, I would like to suggest to Commercial Bank of Amber have to work properly to achieve
their goals and also to address other problems by working in cooperation with other organization,
especially non-governmental organization.
