Answer the Following.
Short answer questions. 1. How does a seed absorb water? On one side of the seed there is a scar. On top of the scar there is a small hole. This hole allows water to enter the seed. 2. What are the conditions necessary for the germination of seed? Water, air and warmth are required for germination or for a seed to grow into a new plant. 8.Human beings also help in the dispersal of seeds.
How? We sometimes eat fruits and throw the seeds thus helping to disperse them. Some seeds stick to our clothes and are carried for long distances as they have stiff hair, spines or hooks.
9. Name three agents of dispersal. Give example of each.
The agents of dispersal are, S.NO AGENTS EXAMPLES 1. Wind Dandelion 2. Water Coconut 3. Animals Papaya Long Answer Questions. 1.Why is dispersal of seeds necessary? Dispersal of seeds is necessary so that plants do not grow too close to each other. If there is no dispersal of seeds, plants will not get enough space, air, water, minerals and sunlight. Under these conditions they cannot grow into healthy plants. Nature has provided means of scattering the seeds produced by a plant far and wide, so that crowding is reduced. 2. Draw a labelled diagram to show the germination of a seed. Describe the process in your own words
The process by which a baby plant grows from a
seed is known as germination. The seeds use the food stored in the seed leaves to grow. The roots of the growing baby plant grow below the seed into the soil. The shoots appear and grow upward. The seed leaves stay with the plant till the leaves start growing.
