SAMPLE PAPER
Subject: Mathematics Max. Marks:35
Grade: 10 Time:1 hour 20 minutes
Name: Section: Roll No:
 .
General Instructions:
 Section A carries one mark each.
 Section B carries two marks each.
 Section C carries three marks each.
 Section D carries four marks each.
 Section E carries five marks each.

SECTION A(MCQ)
1. If one zero of the quadratic polynomial x2 – 5x + k is –4, then the value of k is.....
a) 36 b) -36 c) 18 d) -18
2. If HCF of (26 & 169) is 13, then the LCM of (26 & 169) is....
a) 26 b) 52 c) 338 d) 4394
3. The value of k for which the lines 5x +7y=3 and 15x+21y=k coincide is......
a)9 b)5 c)7 d)18
4. Assertion: If one zero of polynomial p(x) = (k +4)x2+13x+4k is reciprocal of the
2

other, then k=2.

Reason: If (x-a) is a factor of p(x), then p(a) = 0 i.e., a is a zero of p(x).
(a) Both assertion (A) and reason (R) are true and reason (R) is the correct
explanation of assertion (A).
(b) Both assertion (A) and reason (R) are true but reason (R) is not the correct
explanation of assertion (A).
(C) Assertion (A) is true but reason (R) is false.
(d) Assertion (A) is false but reason (R) is true.

SECTION B( 2 marks each)

5. Solve the following pair of linear equations

21x + 47y = 110
47x + 21y = 162
6. If α and β are zeroes of x² –(k + 6)x + 2(2k –1). find the value of k if α + β =1/2 αβ.

7. Explain why 17 x 5 x 11 x 3 x 2 + 2 x11 is a composite number
SECTION C( 3 marks each)
8. The length, breadth, and height of a room are 8 m 50 cm, 6 m 25 cm and 4 m 75 cm
respectively. Find the length of the longest rod that can measure the dimensions of the
room exactly .
9. If the squared difference of the zeros of the quadratic polynomial f(x)=x2+px+45 is
equal to 144, find the value of p.
10. Prove that √7 is irrational
11. Solve graphically x – y =1, 2x + y = 8. Shade the region bounded by these lines and
y-axis. Also find its area.
SECTION D (4 marks)
12.

a) Find the zeroes of the polynomial in the above graph and write the equation of the
polynomial

b) If 𝛼, 𝛽 are zeroes of the quadratic polynomial in the graph ,form a quadratic polynomial
whose zeroes are (𝛼 + 1) and (𝛽 + 1).

13. Case Study

A test consists of ‘True’ or ‘False’ questions. One mark is awarded for every correct
answer while ¼ mark is deducted for every wrong answer. A student knew answers to
some of the questions. Rest of the questions he attempted by guessing. He answered
120 questions and got 90 marks.
1. If answers to all questions he attempted by guessing were wrong, then how many
questions did he answer correctly?

2. How many questions did he guess?

3. If the answers to all questions he attempted by guessing were wrong and answered
80 correctly, then how many marks did he get?

4. If the answer to all questions he attempted by guessing were wrong, then how many
questions answered correctly to score 95 marks.

SECTION E (5 marks)
14. The age of a father is equal to sum of the ages of his 6 children. After 15years, twice
the age of the father will be the sum of ages of his children. Find the age of the father.
