FLASH 11.1 INTRODUCTION Animation is the most attractive and informative part in any Multimedia Application. Various softwares are available in the market for creating animations, One such popular software is Macromedia Flash. It provides a platform for designing applications involving Text, Animations, Sound & Video content and other presentations that can be displayed on web. It is helpful in designing multimedia applications such as computer games, tutorial CDs and complex presentations. In this lesson, you will lean how to use Flash version 8. Your web site can transform from a bland text based web site into a graphical playground. Many companies (that are based primarily on image and appearance) use flash websites to help show their company in the best light. 11.2 OBJECTIVES After going through this lesson you will be able to © list of components of flash ‘ertificate in Web Designing and Development © insert a Frame / keyframe © convert text / graphics to symbol apply special effects to objects 11.3 USING FLASH SOFTWARE Following are 3 features of Flash: © Flash is a multimedia graphics program specially for use on the Web * You can embed images, sound and video clippings which are created in other softwares in a flash document file. Flash documents are stored as -fla files. * Flash enables you to create interactive “movies” on the Web — © Flash uses vector graphics, which means that the graphics can be scaled to any size without losing clarity/quality © Flash does not require programming skills and is easy to learn. 11.4 HOW TO USE FLASH: ‘When you launch Flash you will see a welcome screen. This screen offers a few shortcuts. It looks like the screen as shown in Fig 11.1: Creating Animation Using Flash :: 259 ‘Open Recent Create Noe 2 om Brennen) esr Comat i [ru Fig. 11.1: Welcome Screen To start working on a Flash file, you now can use either the File Menu or you can click on an item in the welcome screen. E. © Use File >Open to open a *.fla file you are working on © Open a “recent” item either through the File Menu or the button © Create a new Flash file Let’s learn about Flash workspace, Stage, Timeline, Property Inspector, Toolbar and Panels. 260 :: Certificate in Web Designing and Development Fig, 11.2 : Program Window of Flash Property Inspector Fig. 11.2 shows the following components of Flash software: © Menu Bar contains options like File, Edit, View, Insert, Modify Text, ‘Commands, Control, Window, and Help. Each of them have further sub- options. * Toolbar contains the tools like Selection, Subselection, Free Transform, Gradient Transform, Line, Lasso, Pen, Text, Oval, Rectangle, Pencil, Brush, Ink bottle, Paint Bucket, Eye dropper, Eraser, Hand, Zoom, Stroke Color, Fill Color, Snap to objects. You can use these tools to create color, draw, select and modify different objects in the Stage. The description of each tool is discussed in the next section. : © Stage is the canvas where various objects can be created. This is the workspace of a Flash document. © Timeline controls how the contents of your document looks like at a particular instance of time i.e. assigning time to each object to perform its function... E.g. you have created a movie where you have shown how the player hits the football in one of the movie shots. Here, you can break up the complete shot in small pieces, called frames. Let each frame show a slightly different pose of the player and the football. Now arrange all Creating Animation Using Flash :: 261 the frames with respect to time, i.e. let Flash display each frame at the time you decide. You can use Timeline to time each frame as per your requirement. There is a ruler attached to the timeline which helps you select a particular frame. © Property Inspector lets you to alter the attributes of the selected objects in the Flash document. For example, you can alter the size, shape, Timeline, color, frame rate etc. of different objects including bitmap, video, frame etc. © Panels help in creating and manipulating objects on the Stage e.g. Color Panel, Align Panel, Library etc. You can dock the Panels on the bottom oftthe Flash screen or on the sides and can hide them too. Various panels available for various different purposes e.g. Library Panel contains all reusable clements like graphics, audio, bitmap etc... INTEXT QUESTIONS 11.1 1. (i.e. a sequence of drawings). Each drawing is called a frame. In other words, Frame is a snapshot of what's happening at a particular moment. E.g. a five minutes cartoon may have up 262 :: Certificate in Web Designing and Development to 9000 frames. In animation, each frame overlaps the previous one. Movement is caused by rapidly displaying each frame in sequence,, which creates the illusion ‘ofamoving object. Each frame is represented by the frame numberiin the Timeline. Frames are of two types: ‘© Key frames: define the objects that change in your animation. You can show the change in an animation by placing different objects in different keyframes. © Regular frames: contain the contents of the immediately preceding keyframe. 11.5.1 Inserting a Frame or a Key Frame or a Blank Frame Follow these steps to Insert a Frame or a Keyframe or a Blank frame in a Flash document: © Open the document in which you want to insert the Frame, © Onthe menu bar, click Insert as shown in Fig. 11.3. © From the drop down ist, select Timeline. ‘* From the drop down lis select the required option: Frame or Keyframe or Blank Keyframe. When you create a new Flash document, the first Keyframe is automatically created. In order to add motion to the frames, all you need to do is select the ending Keyframe and rest of the intermediate frames between the first Keyframe and the last Keyframe are filled by Flash software. Follow these steps to learn about motion tweening: © Create an object on the Stage. ‘© Select the ending frame of the motion by right clicking on any frame, eg. Frame 40. © Right click and select Insert Keyframe. Fig. 11.16 shows frame 40 is being selected as the ending Keyframe. ‘© Select the object in the frame and move it manually across the stage as you would want it to move in the final animation. © Click the right mouse button on any frame between the starting and the ending frame. Right click on any of the selected frame(s) and select the option for Create Motion ‘Tween. Notice that when you preview your animation, the circle smoothly animates from being small to large and back again. 11.7.2 Shape Tweening Shape tweening gives an effect as if one shape is appearing from the other over a period of time. In short, Flash helps to transform an object into a different shape by changing its properties like: size, skew, rotation, color, Creating Animation Using Flash :: 275 position, etc. Iti different from Motion tweening in the respect, that Shape tweening treats an object as an editabie shape, Also, it considers the edges and the object separately editable. In Motion tweening, the object is a single entity whose edges can't be edited separately. Follow these steps to learn about shape tweening. Next few Figures show how a rectangle is shape tweened into an oval. © Create a new Flash document. © At frame 1, draw a rectangle by clicking at Rectangle tool from the toolbar. When you publish a FLA file, Flash compresses it into the SWF file format. This is the format that you place in a web page. The Publish command can automatically generate an HTML file with the correct tags in it for you. In order to view completed .fla files on the internet or allow otiters to view it, the .tla must be published through Flash to access the fie in a format viewable by their own computers. Publishing saves the multimedia project, from layers and music to channels and text, ina compressed streaming file that even those ‘viewers on dial-up don’t normally have a problem viewing, unless your project contains large multimedia files embedded within its library. Flash makes it easy for anyone to put their files online after the engine has finished processing, 278 :: Certificate in Web Designing and Development the file. However, there are some steps that need to be taken before the files can be fully viewed online. ‘You can enhance your movie with background music or narrative, and sound effects. Flash can stream longer sounds (such as soundtracks or long-form narration) to minimize loading time so that users get right to the good stuff Flash imports the following audio file formats: * AIFF © MP3 * Windows WAV Follow these steps to import a sound into your library: 1. Create a new Flash document and choose File —> Import —> Import to Library. 2. Browse and choose an .mp3, .way, or .aiff file from your hard drive and click Open (Windows) or Choose (Mac). Using Flash tool, you can create animation having sound and video effect. Flash produces two types of files. A Flash document is saved as fa file. AA flash movie is saved as swf file. To view a Flash movie, you need additional software called Flash Player. ‘Animation is produced by arranging a series of pictures in slightly different positions. Each picture is called a frame. Thus, a movie is @ collection of frames. To create a movie, Flash software provides you Menu Bar, Tool Bar, Timeline, Panels, Stage and Property Inspector loaded with the latest techniques to create movie and give it special effects. ‘The white area in Flash window where all objects are created and edited is the primary workspace of Flash and is called as Stage. Keyframes define the objects that change in your animation, while frames contain the contents of the immediately preceding Keyframe. ‘Timeline in Flash tool is associated with Layers and Frames. It organizes and controls the objects in a Flash document with respect to time. In other words, it decides when to display a particular frame in the movie. Property Inspector is used to view and edit the attributes of the selected object on Stage. With Toolbar, you can select, create, color and modify an object. On right side of the Flash window are Panels, which can align, tansform, and display library components in Flash. To create a new document in Flash, select File» New New Document —> Flash Document. Frames and Keyframes can be Inserted, Deleted, Cut, Copy, Pasted, Cleared, Selected etc. If you right click on any frame just below the Timeline ruler, you can see all these options. Flash provides concept of Symbols that are part of the Library. You can create a graphic, button or movie clip once and make it part of your library to reuse it multiple times. To create a new symbol, you camright click on aan object and select Convert to Symbol. As soon as you do it, you can see the symbol in the Library Panel, In order to use it in your movie, just drag it from the Library panel. Creating Animation Using Flash :: 285 © Togiveanobjectamoving effect, Flash has di option called Motion TWeening.
