Justification:
The species is listed as Data Deficient due to the paucity of records and because its exact range,
population status and threats are not well known.

Geographic Range
Range Description:
This species occurs in the Upper Amazon River basin in Peru (Ortega et al. 2012). Its type locality is
Samiria River, Chinguito (=Cocha Shinguita or Shirguita), Peru (Mees 1989).

Tropical demersal freshwater fish (Froese and Pauly 2014) associated with river habitats. Little else is
known about the habitat and ecology of this species.

Use and Trade


The banjo cat Pseudobunocephalus quadriradiatus is included in Peru´s list of ornamental fish (Sánchez
et al. 2006).

Threats
The threats to this species are unknown.

There are no conservation measures in place; it is not known if the species is present in any protected
areas. Research is needed to better determine its distribution and population size and trends and the
threats that may be affecting it.
