GRANADILLA
CASE REPORT
Prepared by:
Acosta, Keanard John Alon, Jastine Espedosa, Khemgee Parahiman, Dylan Somo, Ivan Turvey
Background of the Case
Granadilla Swimwear, established in 2015 by
entrepreneurs Josh Meltz and Adam Duxbury, is a
South African brand growing famous for their
stylish swimwear that celebrates local life. But just
as COVID-19 lockdowns swept through the country
affecting their original business and other side
projects such as a kombucha brand, rooftop venue
etc., they switched gears to launch Granadilla
Eats, an online food ordering and delivery
platform.
Even though there is uncertainty changing into a
sustainable business model, Granadilla Eats has
taken the liberty of increased e-commerce and
local demand during one of PEAKS in our country
and used this rise as an opportunity to take its
game beyond crisis.
Objectives
This study aims to analyze the elements
that led to Granadilla Eats’ success
during the COVID-19 Pandemic, identify
potential challenges to its long-term
sustainability, assess its competition in
the market and assess the feasibility of
its niche strategy which is by focusing on
locally produced goods which has a
mutual benefit for them and small
businesses.
This study also aims to create
recommendations for Granadilla Eats to
sustain its growth and profitability
during the post pandemic era.
Statement of the Problem
This study aims to identify the factors that contributed to Granadilla Eats' initial
success, identify potential challenges and threats, assess its competitive position, and
develop recommendations for long-term sustainability.

01.
Considering Granadilla Eats' early success during the COVID-19 pandemic,
will the company be able to continue to develop and turn a profit in the
post-pandemic period as restrictions drop and competition increases?

02.
Will Granadilla Eats’ strategy of focusing on locally-sourced products be
sustainable in the long run, or will it limit its market reach and potential for
growth?

03.
How will the post pandemic of COVID-19 affect customer tastes and
behavior, and how can Granadilla Eats modify its business plan to take
advantage of these changes?
Point of Views
Employees
The employees of granadilla eats felt
a sense of security in securing their
jobs during the downturn caused by
the COVID-19 Pandemic
With that, the company had to
deduct wages by 30% and despite
these financial challenges, the
employees continued to support the
company and contributed to its
success
Customers
The customers of granadilla eats at
first were hesitant about their
sudden transition to food delivery
Granadilla’s ability to order fresh,
locally-produced and having it
delivered into their doorstep was a
significant advantage during the
COVID-19 pandemic
Many customers felt satisfied
knowing about Granadilla’s support
on small local businesses which
contributes to its local economy
Shareholders
The entrepreneurs, Meltz and
Duxbury made a significant sacrifice
by taking 100% pay cuts
However, they believed that its long-
term benefits will outweigh short-
term sacrifices
The success of Granadilla eats
showed that their determination on
their decision reassured the
shareholders of the company’s
adaptability
Local Business
Granadilla Eats provided an
opportunity for the local businesses
that were struggling to survive
during the COVID-19 Pandemic
It greatly helped these businesses to
maintain their operation despite the
lockdown and reach new customers
This mutual beneficial partnership
increased the market reach and
strengthened the local businesses
community which greatly
contributed to the overall economic
recovery of their region
Competitors

and small, focused on expanding
offerings, Granadilla focused on local
produce and efficient and fast
delivery and adapted strategies to
satisfy consumer preferences which
gave them a great competitive
advantage
The company’s adaptability made
Granadilla Eats unique from
competitors
Areas of Consideration
To forecast whether the business will be sustainable beyond the COVID-19 crisis and
the lockdown we must consider the numbers, one of which is the rise in demand of
e-commerce during the height of the pandemic. This sudden rise may indicate
that the lockdown restrictions have helped online businesses and have opened a
new opportunity for other businesses to follow.
It is also important to consider the multiple lockdown restrictions that were set
during the height of the pandemic. Citizens of South Africa had limited activity and
mostly stayed inside of their homes. This may be the reason for the rise of e-
commerce and its popularity as people did not have many options when it came to
buying their needs.
With the effects of the pandemic wearing off and normality slowly creeping back in,
it is in the best interest of all online businesses to find out whether the online
business model is still viable after the pandemic and the lockdown restrictions.
Alternative
Courses of Action
With society slowly going back to normal, Granadilla
may also slowly go back to normal operations by as
long as the lockdown restrictions are lifted. This can
help them get back to their normal operations and
focus on their swimwear designs for the next summer.

The rise in revenue and overall rise of the e-

commerce industry shows that it’s best for Granadilla
to fully buy into the online business model and
move their business stables to be available online.

This will help Granadilla take advantage of the new

normal as online shopping has become part of the
lives of people after the pandemic.

This will also help them reach a new market with

their swimwear design outside of South Africa given
the rise of popularity of e-commerce across the world.
Recommendations
In order to sustain growth and guarantee success in the highly
competitive food delivery market, the following recommendations
are necessary for Granadilla Eats:

Diversify the products that they are offering by

introducing seasonal items and complementary products
The company should gradually expand its delivery area
and consider partnering with local businesses
Granadilla Eats should enhance its online platform for a
better user experience and implement a loyalty program
Granadilla Eats can explore new revenue streams such as
meal kits, corporate catering, and full-fledged grocery
delivery
The company should monitor its competition and
differentiate itself by leveraging its unique selling points
