SYNOPTIC SITUATION: The Depression (Remnant of Cyclonic Storm “FENGAL”) over north coastal Tamil Nadu &
Puducherry moved nearly westwards and weakened into a Well Marked Low Pressure Area at 0530 hrs IST of today, the 02nd
December 2024, over North Interior Tamil Nadu. It persisted over the same area at 0830 hours IST of today, the 02nd December,
2024. The remnant low pressure area is likely to emerge into southeast & adjoining east-central Arabian Sea off north
Kerala-Karnataka coasts around 3rd December 2024.
SUMMARY: Northeast monsoon has been vigorous over Kerala. Rain occurred at most places in Kerala and no rain occurred in
Lakshadweep. Heavy to very heavy rainfall reports in cm are: Kodungallur (Thrissur district) 19, Kottayam 18, Kurudamannil
(Pathanamthitta district) 17, Konni (Pathanamthitta district), Kanjirappally (Kottayam district) & Ranni AWS (Pathanamthitta
district) 16 each, C.I.A.L. Kochi (Ernakulam district), Haripad (Alappuzha district) & Peerumedu (Idukki district) 15 each,
Perumbavur (Ernakulam district) 14, Aluva (Ernakulam district), Laha AWS (Pathanamthitta district) & Aluva AWS (Ernakulam
district) 13 each, Cherthala (Alappuzha district), Kunnathanam AWS (Pathanamthitta district) & Thycauttussery AWS (Alapuzha
district) 12 each, Kalamassery AWS (Ernakulam district) 11, Kumarakom (Kottayam district) & Konni ARG (Pathanamthitta
district) 8 each, Kozhikode, Vaikom (Kottayam district) & Piravam (Ernakulam district) 7 each.The other chief amounts of rainfall
reports in cm are: Enamakkal (Thrissur district) 6, Chalakkudy (Thrissur district), Vellathooval AWS (Idukki district), Idamalayar
Dam AWS (Ernakulam district) & Athirappalli AWS (Thrissur district) 5 each, Myladumpara & Thodupuzha (both in Idukki
district), Idukki, Angadipuram (Malappuram district) & Odakali AWS (Ernakulam district) 4 each, Karipur AP (Malappuram
district), Vellanikkara (Thrissur district), Munnar (Idukki district), Kunnamkulam, Irinjalakuda & Vadakkancherry (all in Thrissur
district), Thrithala (Palakkad district), Ponnani (Malappuram district), Ulanad AWS & Venkurinji AWS (both in Pathanamthitta
district), Pampadumpara AWS & Udumbannoor AWS (both in Idukki district), Lower Sholayar AWS & Peechi AWS (both in
Thrissur district), Thodupuzha ARG (Idukki district), Chimoni ARG (Thrissur district) & Panniyoor ARG (Kannur district) 3 each,

Kochi (Ernakulam district), Mancompu (Alappuzha district), Ernakulam South, Ottappalam (Palakkad district), Quilandi
(Kozhikode district), Ambalavayal (Wayanad district), Mattanchery AWS (Ernakulam district), Palemad AWS & Munderi AWS
(both in Malappuram district), Urumi AWS (Kozhikode district), Kabanigiri AWS (Wayanad district), Peringome AWS (Kannur
district), Thenmala ARG (Kollam district) & Palluruthy ARG (Ernakulam district) 1 each. (Graphics enclosed in Annexure I)
Minimum temperature fell appreciably in Ernakulam & Kozhikode districts and no large change in it elsewhere over Kerala
during the past 24 hours. However, it was appreciably above normal in Thiruvananthapuram district, above normal in Kannur &
Kollam districts and it remained normal elsewhere over Kerala. Kottayam recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 22°C.
WIND WARNING FOR KERALA: Strong Surface winds with speed reaching 30-40, gusting to 50 kmph likely to prevail
occasionally over Kerala on 02nd December 2024.
THUNDERSTORM WARNING: (Graphics enclosed in Annexure II): Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one
or two places in Kerala from 02nd to 04th December and in Lakshadweep on 03rd & 04th December 2024.
HEAVY RAINFALL WARNING: Heavy rainfall (7cm to 11cm in 24 hours) to very heavy rainfall (12cm to 20cm in 24 hours) is
very likely to occur at a few places with extremely heavy rainfall (> 20cm in 24 hours) at one or two places in Kerala on 02nd
December 2024. Heavy rainfall (7cm to 11cm in 24 hours) to very heavy rainfall (12cm to 20cm in 24 hours) is very likely to occur
at isolated places in Kerala on 03rd December 2024 and Heavy rainfall (7cm to 11cm in 24 hours) is very likely to occur at isolated
places in Lakshadweep on 03rd & 04th December 2024.

heavy rainfall (> 20cm in 24 hours)

occur at one or two places in the districts of:

• Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha & Kottayam on Day 1(02.12.2024).
• Malappuram, Kozhikode & Wayanad and Lakshadweep on Day 2(03.12.2024).
• Lakshadweep on Day 3(04.12.2024).
Probable Impacts due to the Heavy to Very Heavy Rainfall/Extremely Heavy Rainfall / Strong winds
• Visibility may become poor due to intense spell of rainfall leading to traffic congestion.
• Temporary Disruption of traffic due to water logging in roads/ uprooting of trees/ breaking of tree branches leading to
increased travel time due to heavy rain and strong winds.
• Uprooting of trees may cause damages to power sector.
• Possibility of damages to vulnerable structures due to heavy to very heavy rainfall
• Partial Damages to Kutcha Houses and Huts due to uprooting of trees.
• Possibilities of Flash floods due to intense spell of rainfall.
• Water logging / flooding in many parts of low-lying areas.
• Landslides/mud slide/land slip very likely.
• Heavy rainfall may damage the standing crops and vegetables in the maturity stage.
• Lightning may injure people and cattle at open place.
• Dispersion of soil from the field and hence seed displacement and poor germination of seeds.
Actions suggested
• Follow traffic advisories issued, if any.
• Avoid staying in vulnerable structure.
• Avoid going to the areas that face water logging problems/ river fronts.
• People in the vulnerable area are advised to move to safer places.
• Propping of the vegetable pandals recommended.
• Take shelter during thunderstorm/lightning activities.
• Provide mulch at the base of the crop to prevent soil and root damage.
• Avoid working in the fields during thunderstorm/lightning period and ensure proper mechanism to avoid runoff in
case of rain.
• Postpone sowing of seeds; if already sown, avoid water stagnation in the field and cover the seeded area with natural
mulching materials like straw, farm residues etc.
• Be Updated.

likely to prevail along and off Kerala Coast.
