August 2024
INTRODUCTION

My name is Makendi Henry Alce, but I go by "Alce"

(pronouns: he/him/his). I currently serve as the Adult
Education Program Director at the Immigrant Family
Services Institute (IFSI-USA).

I am also pursuing a master’s degree in Public Policy at

Brandeis University. This program will equip me to design
and implement policies that support immigrants and other
marginalized populations in the US.

In my free time, I enjoy writing, watching sports (especially

soccer), and hiking with friends, particularly during the fall
season to take in the vibrant colors of nature.

The figure shows that 27
percent of working-age
immigrants are high school
dropouts, vs. just 7 percent of
working-age natives. Although
32 percent of immigrants have
a four-year college degree or
more, that figure is slightly
lower than the 35 percent of
natives who have at least a
college degree.

THE TRANSITION

The transition The process or a period of changing from one state

or condition to another:
The first place you go when immigrating to a State is to search on
the State's official website. That is the easiest way to access
resources that are available for you.

For Massachusetts, the official website is https://www.mass.gov/

but it's important to check out the City of Boston website as well
which you can find here: https://www.boston.gov/ An idea of the
