Ethical guidelines and penalties for cheating

Research ethics and responsible scientific and research


practice

• Arcada has committed to comply with the guidelines of the


Finnish Advisory Board on Research Integrity for conduct of
research and procedures for handling violations of them.

• A student guilty of cheating or otherwise in breach of the


guidelines of the Finnish Advisory Board on Research Integrity or
Arcada's regulations on good scientific and research practice can
be punished with a warning or suspension from Arcada for a
limited time (Degree Statutes 27 §).

• Assignments will immediately be failed if plagiarism is discovered


(start: Rules and Regulations – Plagiarism).

Examination
• Group assignment:
– The group assignment gives 40 points.
– In groups of 4 students, prepare written academic essays on given
topics. Presentation of some of the reports for the class. Discussion
after presentations
– Groups are assigned by the teacher if you cannot create them
yourself.
– All members of a group get the same grade
• The individual academic essay gives 50 points.
• Attendance at lectures gives 10 points.
• Copy-pasting or other forms of plagiarism will lead to failure in
the course. Also cheating in attendance!
• Grade given for an assignment cannot be improved on, but a
failed report can be resubmitted.
• Missing the deadline will reduce grade by 1
