Assignment on Parts of Speech

Noun

A noun is a word that represents a person, place, thing, or idea. Nouns can be concrete (can be

experienced through senses) or abstract (ideas or qualities).

Examples:

- Concrete Noun: dog, apple, car

- Abstract Noun: love, freedom, intelligence

- Sentence: The teacher gave the students homework.

Pronoun

A pronoun is a word that replaces a noun to avoid repetition. Pronouns can be personal,

possessive, reflexive, or relative.

Examples:

- Personal Pronoun: I, you, he, she, it

- Possessive Pronoun: mine, yours, his

- Sentence: She loves her dog.

Verb

A verb is a word that describes an action, occurrence, or state of being. Verbs are the backbone of

sentences, giving them meaning and direction.

Examples:

- Action Verb: run, jump, write

- Linking Verb: is, are


- Sentence: They are playing football.

Adjective

An adjective modifies or describes a noun or pronoun. It provides more information about an object's

size, shape, age, color, etc.

Examples:

- Descriptive Adjective: beautiful, tall

- Sentence: The tall building is visible from afar.

Adverb

An adverb modifies a verb, an adjective, or another adverb. It often answers questions like how,

when, where, and to what extent.

Examples:

- Quickly, very, silently

- Sentence: She speaks very softly.

Preposition

A preposition shows the relationship between a noun (or pronoun) and another word in the

sentence. It often indicates location, direction, time, or method.

Examples:

- in, on, under, over

- Sentence: The book is on the table.

Conjunction
A conjunction connects words, phrases, or clauses in a sentence. There are three types:

coordinating, subordinating, and correlative.

Examples:

- Coordinating: and, but, or

- Sentence: I like tea and coffee.

Interjection

An interjection is a short exclamation that expresses emotion. It is often followed by an exclamation

mark.

Examples:

- Oh! Wow! Ouch!

- Sentence: Wow! That was an amazing performance.
