-Nautile-
Nautile, which is French for nautilus, is a semi-circular, spiral wedge shawl that features repeating sections of eyelet lace and
reverse stockinette stitch. The contrasting textures of these two stitch patterns, which alternate across five wedges, mimic the
curves of a nautilus shell. The nautilus shell is a beautiful symbol of life, internal harmony, creation, and evolution that also
conforms to the sacred geometry of the Golden Mean, which appears throughout nature and art.
Nautile is knitted flat, and each of the five wedges is constructed by adding one stitch at the beginning of each wedge on all
right-side rows. The wedges grow evenly and radiate out from your centrally placed cast-on point. Once you’ve cast on and
completed the eight set-up rows, you’ll repeat a four-row stitch pattern that makes up the remainder of the shawl. This all-over
design allows the Pearlescent Worsted yarn’s shimmer and shine to take center stage.

• Nautile is knitted flat in one piece, and each of the five wedges is constructed by adding one stitch at the
beginning of each wedge on all right-side rows. At the completion of each right-side row, you will have
added five stitches to your stitch count.
• At the end of every row, each wedge should have the same number of stitches. Your stitch markers are
positioned to indicate the sides of each wedge.
• The wedges grow evenly and radiate out from your centrally placed cast-on point. Once you’ve cast on and
completed the eight set-up rows, you’ll repeat a four-row stitch pattern that makes up the remainder of the
shawl. You can easily customize the size of your shawl by increasing or decreasing the number of times you
repeat this four-row stitch pattern. All right-side rows begin with sl1k, k1 and end with k1, sl1k, which adds a
subtle border along the top edge.
• The Reverse Stockinette wedges might curl a bit after they're bound off. However, if you're using the
Pearlescent Worsted yarn, this curl will disappear once the piece has been blocked flat.
• I highly recommend checking your gauge against mine to ensure that you have enough yarn to complete
the design.
