FLUID FLOW FLUENT ANALYSIS OF TWO PHASE FLOW IN A

HORIZONTAL PIPE

Aim:

To determine the fluent analysis of two phase flow in a horizontal pipe of dimensions
40cm dia using ANSYS FLUENT

Software Package Used: Ansys Workbench

Experiment Procedure:

• Start Program Ansys Workbench

• Click on to Tool Box Analysis System Select Fliud Flow Fluent

• Go to Geometry Change the Units to cm Select XY Plane Select the option Look At
Face Go to Sketching Create the Circular profile of 40cm diameter.

• Go to Modeling Select the option Extrude In details of Extrude Select Sketch 1 for
Geometry Apply Operation-Add Material Give the Depth value=150cmGenerate

• Minimise the Design Modeler Go to Mesh from the Project Schematic Double Click
on it

• Select Mesh Generate Mesh Create Named Selections Inlet and Outlet Select Update
Mesh

• Minimise the Mesh Go to Setup from the Project Schematic Double Click on it

• Go to General Gravity on

• Go to Models Multiphase on Model Volume of Fluid Scheme-Explicit Options-Open


Channel

• Go to Materials Select Fluid Select the option create/edit Material Type-Fluid Select
Fluent Data Base Select Nitromethylene Select the option Copy Select Fluent Data
Base Select Water Liquid(<1)Select the option Copy Click Close
• Go to Phases Select Phase 1Select Edit Select Water Liquid Select Phase 2Select Edit
Select Nitromethylene Click OK

• Go to Boundary Conditions Select the zone in Type-Velocity Inlet Click Yes Select
PhasePhase1Select the option Edit Give the velocity magnitude value=30m/s Click
Ok

• Go to Boundary Conditions Select the zone out Type-Pressure Outlet Click OK

• Go to Run Calculation Select No of Iterations-10Select the option Calcualte

• Go to Graphics and Annotations See the Vectors and Contours

RESULTS:

• Vectors of Pressure, Velocity and Wall fluxes are plotted.

• Contours of Pressure, Density, Velocity and Wall Fluxes are plotted.

ANALYSIS OF TWO DIMENSIONAL LAMINAR FLOW USING ANSYS FLUENT

Aim:

To determine the analysis of 2D Laminar flow of a pipe with a given temperature of


340K,Inlet Velocity of 0.01m/s using ANSYS FLUENT.

Software Package Used: Ansys Workbench

Experiment Procedure:

• Start Program Ansys Workbench

• Click on to Tool Box Analysis System Select Fliud Flow Fluent

• Go to Geometry Change the analysis type from 3D to 2DChange the Units to “mm”
Select XY Plane from the tree outline Select the option Look At Face Go to Sketching
Create the Rectangular Profile of 1000mmX50mm dimensions respectively.
• Go to Concept from the Menu Bar Select the option Surface from Sketches Base
Object-Sketch1ApplyOperation-Add Material Generate

• Select Sketch1 from the tree Outline Go to Sketching Select the option Split at Select
Select the bottom line of the rectangle Split it into two halves with a distance of 400
mm and 200mm respectively Generate

• Minimise the Design Modeler Go to Mesh from the Project Schematic Double Click
on it

• Select Mesh Right Click Insert Edge Sizing Give the particular no of element
divisions for all the edges respectively Generate Mesh

• Create Named Selections Inlet, Outlet, Heater, Top Wall and Bottom Wall
respectively Update Mesh

• Minimise the Mesh Go to Setup from the Project Schematic Double Click on it

• Go to Models Energy Equation-on

• Go to Materials Select Fluid Select the option Create/Edit Select Fluent Data Base
Select Water-Liquid(h20<1)Select Copy Click Close Change / Create Close

• Go to Cell Zone Conditions Zone-Surface Body Select Type-Fluid Material Name-


Water-Liquid Click OK

• Go to Monitors Select Residuals-Print / Plot Give the value 1e-6 to increase the
convergence at monitor check convergence criteria Click OK

• Go to Boundary Conditions Select the zone Bottom Wall Type-Wall Edit Select
Thermal check it click OK

• Zone-Heater Select Thermal Give the temperature value=340KClick OK

• Zone-Inlet Type-Inlet Velocity Give the velocity magnitude=0.01m/s Click OK

• Zone-Outlet Type-Out flow Check it once Click OK

• Zone-Top wall Select Thermal Check it once Click Ok

• Go to Solution Initialization Select Compute from All Zones Select Initialize


• Go to Run Calculation Give No of Iterations=1000Click Calculate

Result:

Contours of Temperature is plotted.
