1. What is disc brakes?

Disc brakes resemble the brakes on a bicycle. The friction elements are in the form of
pads, which are squeezed or clamped about the edge of a rotating wheel.

2. What is the purpose? Support it with your own words or idea.

Disc brakes are better at stopping in straight lines. Disc brakes have a clamping action,
making them less likely to pull. Finally, as the pads wear out, disc brakes automatically
adjust.

3. What is better disc brake or drum brake?

The evidence suggest that drum brake is better than disc brake, the reason for this
occurrence is that for many years, drum brakes were used on all four wheels on virtually
every vehicle on the road. Today, disc brakes have replaced drum brakes on the front wheels
of most vehicles and some models are equipped with both front and rear disc brakes. One
reason for their continued use is that drum brakes can easily handle the 20% to 40% of total
braking load placed on the rear wheels. Another is that drum brakes can also be built with a
simple parking brake mechanism.

4. What is brake booster?

Brake booster Used to increase pedal pressure applied to a brake master cylinder. Hoses
connect the power-steering pump to the booster assembly.

5. What is the purpose? Support it with your own thoughts.

As far as I can tell It supplies fluid under pressure to the pressure applied by the brake
booster of course.
6. Could it be possible that the vehicle has no brake booster? What will be the effect?
The brakes to release is often caused by a tight or misaligned connection between the
power unit and the brake linkage. Broken pistons, diaphragms, bellows, or return springs can
also cause this problem.

7.What is fixed type brake caliper?

The fixed caliper is attached to a bracket without bushings or sliding pins. Both the
inboard and outboard halves of the fixed caliper have the same number of pistons. Most
people agree that fixed calipers perform better, but they cost more.

8. What is floating type brake caliper?

By means of a single-sided piston, floating calipers clamp brake rotors. Although dual-
piston floating calipers do exist, the fact that both pistons are on the same side is crucial.

9. What is brake-proportioning valve?

The components of a vehicle's brake system known as brake proportioning valves limit
the amount of pressure that reaches the rear brakes. This prevents rear wheel lock-up and
enables you to stop your vehicle more safely and effectively.

10. What is the purpose of brake proportioning valve?

Its is credible to contend that during panic stops, prevents the rear brakes from engaging
before the front brakes do.

11. What will be the effect if the brake system has no proportioning valve?

If the proportioning valve isn't working, the pressure that is applied to your rear brakes
during rapid deceleration could be too much. Your rear brakes will not lock up if the
proportioning valve in your vehicle is operating properly.

12. What is parking brake?

The parking brake keeps a vehicle from rolling while it

is parked. It is important to remember that the parking brake is not part of the vehicle’s
hydraulic braking system

13. What is the purpose of parking brake?

Parking brake will produce enough heat to glaze friction materials, expand drum
dimensions, and increase pedal travel.

14. Give at least two type of parking brake.

Foot operated parking brake pedal

Hand operated parking brake lever

15. Could it be possible in the vehicle that has no parking brake?

If the parking pawl breaks, it will stop the car from rolling away. Additionally, if you
parked your vehicle on the street, engaging the parking brake will prevent it from rolling
away or moving in the event of a collision with another vehicle.

16. What is wheel alignment?

A wheel alignment restores the geometry of the suspension to the angles that were
determined to properly locate the vehicle’s weight on the tires and to facilitate steering

17. What are possible effect if the vehicle has no proper wheel alignment?

The evidence suggests that if the vehicle has no proper wheel alignment then it leads to a
scuffing, dragging, or slipping on different types of road surfaces. In addition to this, it is
not even safety owing to the fact that no reduction in fuel consumption, and can’t less the
strain on the steering and suspension systems.

18. Define camber in wheel alignment.

Camber is designed into the vehicle to compensate for road crown, passenger weight, and
vehicle weight. Camber is usually set equally for each wheel. Equal camber means each
wheel is tilted outward or inward the same amount

19. Define caster in wheel alignment.

Caster is designed to provide steering stability. The caster angle for each wheel on an
axle should be equal. Unequal caster angles cause the vehicle to steer
toward the side with less caster.

20. Give at least 5 factors of wheel alignment, and each definition.

Road Crown - Most roads are not designed to be flat. They are paved
at a slight angle. This allows water to flow off the road’s
surface rather than allowing it to accumulate.

Caster - Caster is the angle of the steering axis of a wheel from

the vertical, as viewed from the side of the vehicle.

Camber - is the angle represented by the tilt of either

the front or rear wheels inward or outward from
the vertical as viewed from the front of the car

Toe - is the distance comparison between the leading

edge and trailing edge of the front tires. If the leading
edge distance is less, then there is toe-in

Steering axis inclination (SAI) locates the vehicle

weight to the inside or outside of the vertical centerline of the tire.
