ATTENDANCE: Class Secretary, tell the class who are absent today?
( Excellent!!!Nice to know that)
Motivation: First, let’s all sing What makes day and night.
(WOW!!!GREAT JOB Class!!) You are all amazing singers!
Thank you for being active.
Unlocking Difficulties: What did you observe in the song? (There are words that
has been underlined)
What are those words and where part of the song you saw it?
(the 1st Chorus the words are 24hours and day and night.
Meanwhile, in the 2nd Chorus, the words are rotate and spin
has been underlined.)
(Great, what about the others?) I saw the underlined words in
the 2nd stanza. The words are one year and 365.25 days. Also
in the Bridge part, the words are revolution, one year, rotation,
one day, and day and night.
Excellent! Based on what we sang and the words underlined that
you’ve been answered.
What do you think is our topic for today? ( I think it’s all about the
Rotation and Revolution of the Earth.)
A great answer indeed!
Discussion: Today class we are about to learn the Earth’s Rotation and
Revolution. We will also know the difference between the
two.
How come there is day and night?
What will happen if the Earth will not rotate?
We will also find out how long does it take for the Earth to travel
around the Sun? Also, what causes the seasons?
First to understand the reasons behind it.
Let us watch a video,
What does the does the video talks about the Earth? (The Earth’s
rotation makes day and night meanwhile the revolution
movement makes a year.)
Great! I think you really watched the video seriously.
I mark off the Philippines in the globe with a tape. I will hold the
flashlight at one meter distance from the globe. I will Spin the
globe slowly. Observe as part of the globe goes into the light and
the other part move out.
So, what do you notice? Did the whole globe receive light from the
flashlight? Obviously, No! It’s because when the other part receives
light, It is dark on the other side that’s not receives light.
What are the activities you are doing during night time/ daytime?
Do you think you can still do this if we have a longer night or even
longer days?
Therefore, Life would not have been possible in such extreme
conditions.
What do you observe? At the same time that the Earth spins on its
axis, it also orbits, or revolves around the Sun.
That is why, this movement of the Earth around the Sun is called
revolution.
Now, this is the computation of the .25 days or the leap year.
So, we added an extra day every four years.
Which means that it is like a slight oval in shape. The Earth follows
a definite path called orbit and travels around the sun in a
counter clockwise direction. Like in rotation, the direction of
the Earth’s spins on its own axis also counterclockwise.
So, the reason that the Earth has seasons is that the Earth is tilted
≈(approximately equal to )23.50 degrees on its axis.
Generalization: Let us go back in answering our problems.
First, what is the difference between the rotation and
revolution?
(the rotation is the Earth turning on its own axis while
revolution is the Earth revolves around the Sun.) Very
good!
Then, how come there is day and night?
(the Earth’s rotation causes day and night. The portion
of the Earth facing the sun experiences day while the
other half away from the sun experiences night.)
What will happen if the Earth will not rotate?
(The portion of the Earth facing the sun would always
experience day, continues to bring warmth to the
region. Meanwhile the other half would remain in
darkness and be freezing cold all the time.)
How long does it take for the Earth to travel around the Sun?
(The period for the Earth to revolve around the sun is
365.25 days or one year. The .25 days is why every
four years February has 29 days. T This is referred to
as the leap year)
For our last question, what causes seasons?
(The causes of seasons is the axial tilt of the Earth on its
axis while revolving around Sun regulates seasons on
planet Earth with one of the Hemisphere facing away or
towards Sun. The reason the Earth has seasons is
that the Earth is tilted ≈23.50 on its axis.)
Excellent Kids!
Now, you know the difference of Earth’s movement and the
effects of it.
We will have an activity.
Application: Group Activity. I will group you into four. Before we start,
what are the rules to follow in group activity.
Everybody, read……
1. Come prepared and on time.
2. Respect, fellow students – critique ideas, not people
3. Be an active listener; let other member/classmate finish
talking.
4. Help others AND ask for help when YOU need it.
5. Do your fair share of work.
This is your rubric for about 5 minutes you should finish your
activity.
Then tell me how was your experience doing this activity?
Do Earth’s movements have a good or bad effect in
our daily lives?
Checking of Activity: Okay, Group 1 what are your experiences while doing
your activity. Then do Earth’s movement have a good or bad
effect in our daily lives?
Okay Group 2,
Evaluation: Now that you understand well our topic, let’s have another
activity open your slido app. Direction: Read each
sentence. Then choose the letter of the correct answer.
