ANNUAL REPORT (2022-2023)

VLB Janakiammal College of Arts and Science contentedly celebrate 32nd Annual and Sports Day
celebration with great interest and enthusiasm on 25.03.2023. Thiru.N.Suryakumar, Chairman, VLBJ
Trust, is the guest of the day, in his welcome address Thiru.N.Suryakumar, beloved Chairman of VLBJ
Trust states with high spirits that, the hard work of today is the triumph of the future. The time and effort
which we spend today are the deciding factors of later years which will definitely hail the great success in
life. He also added that in order to attain real peace in our country and in the world, we have first to
formulate inner harmony that will make our life smooth. Success comes when persistence and hard work
are combined in all our works. He insists every student to have inner harmony and commitment as they
lead to success.

Dr.K.Ramamurthi, Principal, delivered Presidential Address. In his presidential address, he


highlights on hope which is very essential one to life, to keep every individual moving and growing. He
quotes the words of Vaclav Havel, “Hope is definitely not the same thing as optimism. It is not the
conviction that something will turn out well, but the certainty that something makes sense, regardless of
how it turns out.” He enlightens us, by sharing; Helen Keller’s quote “Optimism is the faith that leads to
achievement. Nothing can be done without hope and confidence” and also explains how optimism inspires
energizes and brings out the best. He insists every student to be optimistic as Optimism is a strategy for
making a better future.

Mr.N.S.Ramesh Kanna, a well-known Indian Actor, writer, film director, who predominantly
plays various roles in Tamil films is the special guest of the Annual and Sports Day celebration on
25.03.2023. He highlights his message to the students on this special occasion that the students should
explore the new opportunity around them. He insisted that Education is the key to success in life and
teachers make a lasting impact in the lives of their students” and also states that every wound offers us a
gift of success. Followed by the Presidential address, revered Principal Dr.K.Ramamurthi, takes privilege
in presenting the annual report of VLB Janakiammal College of Arts and Science for the academic year
2022-2023.

32nd Annual Report of VLBJCAS on the Glimpses of the Academic Year 2022- 2023

The most respected Chief Guest Mr. Manobala Sir, and honourable Chairman
Thiru.N.Suryakumar, revered CEO and Madam Secretary, Ms. Jaishree, dutiful Parents, dignified
Members of Faculty and enthusiastic Students. It is my honour and privilege to present the 32 nd annual
report of VLB Janakiammal College of Arts and Science on the glimpses of the academic year 2022-23. I
obtain great pleasure in documenting the development and the achievements of VLB Janakiammal
College of Arts and Science during the year 2022-23. This year is marked with many events and
successful stories. This can be attributed to the dedication and team spirit of the staff members, students
and members of the management.

About the College


VLB Janakiammal College of Arts and Science is an autonomous Institution established in the
year 1991 by the well known industrialist and philanthropist late V.L.Balakrishna Naidu under the ambit
of VLB Trust with motto of ‘Educate to Empower’. The college is an autonomous institution, approved
by AICTE, Re-accredited with ‘B++’ grade by NAAC and recognized under 2(f) and 12B of UGC.

The college offers 16 UG, 1 PG and 5 Research Programmes. The college had a record of students
securing ranks in Bharathiar University examinations. The college is committed to provide holistic
education by imparting hands on training, practical exposure and focus on extracurricular activities. The
college offers various free ships and scholarships for deserving students. VLBJCAS stands as the best
college in the city in providing enriched learning experience. The curriculum of the college is set on
global standards. The college adapts Learning Outcome Based Curriculum Framework in its curriculum
and activity based participatory learning is implemented in the teaching, learning process.

Objective of VLBJCAS
The main objective of VLB Janakiammal College of Arts and Science is to provide quality
education that empowers the students to have a robust career, to be competent enough and to inculcate
values and also help them to achieve the versatile personality. We are striving to develop VLBJCAS into
a dynamic campus that lays foundation to a potent knowledge along with healthy socio-cultural values
which will enable the students to become good samaritans with a commendable global outlook.
VLBJCAS strives to make education as a powerful medium and a tool to promote the social and economic
development of backward community. This objective gets reflected in all the following activities of the
college due to hard work and commitment rendered by the dedicated team of VLBJCAS.
Annual report lays out the challenges and accomplishments of each academic year in the following
activities:

Mega Events of the College


This year became an action-packed year for VLBJCAS since we have conducted various programmes for
the betterment of the students. Some of the important programmes are highlighted as MEGA Events,
which are stated below:

 Independence Day was celebrated on 15.08.2022 with traditional cheerfulness and enthusiasm. A
large number of students and staff attended and paid tribute to the martyrs of the country which is
organized by NCC& NSS unit.

 11th Graduation Day was conducted on 18.08.2022, 600 Graduates received their degree certificates
and the rank holders were also honoured by the Prof. Dr. P. Kaliraj, Vice- Chancellor, Bharathiar
University, Coimbatore.

 Teachers Day was celebrated on 04.09.2022, The Principal, Dr.K.Ramamurthi, inaugurated the
program and appreciated the teachers with a speech that was an effective and motivational one for
the entire teacher’s community and the Department of Viscom issued memorable gifts to all the
faculty members to strengthen the bonds among us.

 Coimbatore Vizha 2023 was celebrated on 5th & 6th January 2023 in which Yi Yuva organized
various events such as Tamil and English Essay writing, Filmigo- Photography making, fabric
painting, mehandi designing, solo singing, solo dance, group dance and nearly 5 stalls exclusively
arranged for empowering the entrepreneurial skills of the students.

 Yi Yuva organized Awareness Programme on Road Safety on 07.01.2023, Mr.N.Mathivanan,


Deputy Commissioner of Police Traffic Control Unit, Coimbatore was the guest of the day.

 Republic Day was celebrated on 26.01.2023 with traditional gaiety and enthusiasm. A large
number of students and staff attended and paid tribute to the martyrs of the country which is
organized by NCC unit.

 Women Empowerment Cell was celebrated International Women’s Day on 8.03.2023 at


Conference Hall. Dr. P. Alamermangai, IAS, Additional Collector, Coimbatore was the resource
person of the day.

 An Inter Departmental Management Meet “Alacrity’23 – 6.0” was organized on 02.03.2023 and
around 100 final year UG students from various departments participated in events like Business
Plan, Best Manager, Ad zap, Just a Minute, Business Quiz and Group Dance.
 “Union Budget 2023 Debate” was conducted on 13.02.2023 by II MBA students. Dr. K.
Ramamurthi, Principal, & Dr. K.Vasudevan, Vice Principal, were the guests of honor.

 National Science Day was celebrated in association with Institution Innovation Council (IIC) by
conducting various Departments conducted assortment of competitions on 28th of Feb 2023

 Inter-collegiate cultural fest- YUVA UTSAV 2023 was celebrated on 24.03.2023 at Auditorium,
Mr. Arjun Das, Indian Film actor was the guest of the day. Nearly 1000 students from various
colleges participated in various events of cultural fest such as short film, facial painting, selfie
contest, adzap, brain buzz, fashion show, dancing, singing, band, adaptune, mime and pencil
sketching

 Annual and Sports Day was celebrated on 25.03.2023 at Auditorium, Mr. N.S. Ramesh Kanna, a
well-known Indian actor, writer, film director, who predominantly plays various roles in Tamil films
was the special guest of day.

 12th Graduation Day was conducted on 01.04.2023 at Auditorium, 686 graduates received their
degree certificates and the rank holders were also honoured by Prof. Dr.K.Murugavel, Register i/c,
Bharathiar University, Coimbatore.

 Distribution of offer of appointments was conducted on 02.04.2023 at Auditorium, Placed students


of VLB Janakiammal College of Arts and Science, was honoured by Mr. R. Suresh, District
Employment Officer, Tirupur.

 Alumni Meet 2023 was conducted on 02.04.2023 at Auditorium, more than 450 Alumni were
gathered at the college premises and shared their experience and extended their support to the
institution for its betterment.

 VLB Janakiammal College of Arts and Science, Coimbatore, won 79th Rank along with 212 score
in Commerce Stream at The Week Magazine in Best Colleges of India @ HANSA Research
Survey 2023.

Admission 2022-2023
In spite of the increasing competition among the Arts and Science Colleges, in total we were able
to admit 905 students: it includes 786 students in U.G. Programme and 119 students in P.G. Programme
during the academic year 2022-2023. The total current strength of the students is 2,603, out of which
2,384 students in U.G Programme and 219 students in P.G Programme.
Examination
The principle aim of the college is to fabricate high-quality results and rank holders academically.
Our students have performed well in the end-semester examinations. In the End Semester Examinations
the overall pass percentage of U.G. Programmewas 81.54% and P.G. Programme was 80.62% (odd
Semester) during 2022-2023.VLBJCAS had produced 656graduates with flying colours from our
venerated institution during the academic year 2021-2022. VLBJCAS has produced one Ph.D Scholar and
four M.Phil Scholars during the academic year 2022-2023. Congratulations to all the booming students on
their splendid achievement and to the faculty members, for their contribution in achieving this result.

Faculty Members
The Faculty Members in VLBJCAS are qualified with various proficiencies having industrial and
teaching experience. Team spirit of the faculty members is the pivotal factor which is a major strength of
the VLBJCAS. They impart employable skills to the students through dedicated teaching-learning process.
We have 124dedicated and committed faculty members. Out of 124 members, 30 faculty members are
pursuing Ph.Ds in various disciplines, 30 faculty members Completed Ph.D, 69 faculty members
completed M.Phil, 3 faculty members completed NET, 2 faculty members completed SLET and remaining
members are in their progress of completing their research degrees. 20 faculty members from various
departments are having guide recognition for their research programme.

 Dr.R.V. Suresh, Associate Professor, Department of Management (P.G.) has got one international
Patent Grant from Germany and one Indian Patent Design.

of Academic Excellence Award’ in the IIC and AICTE sponsored international conference held at
Vivekananda College of Arts and Science, Thiruchengode in association with Dhaka International

 Dr.T.Johnson, Assistant Professor, Department of English, received Best Teacher Award for the

 There were 10 Books Published, Eight Papers Published in Conferences, 25 papers published in
seminar proceedings, 23 articles published in journals by the faculty members of VLBJCAS in the
peer reviewed journals / UGC CARE List Journals and also in ABDC journals in the academic year
2022-23.

 Mrs.A.Gowri,Assistant Professor, Department of Management (P.G.) has published a book entitled


“Organisational Behavior” with ISBN No. 978-93-92313-53-0 by Taran Publishing House.

 Dr.R.V. Suresh, Associate Professor, Department of Management (P.G.) has published 1 book and
contributed 2 chapters in various books with ISBN; also acted as Editorial Board Member in two
books of International publishers.

his Ph.D viva voce Examination under the guidance of Dr. S. David Soundarajan, Assistant

 Mr.P.Mohanraj, Assistant Professor, Department of English, has successfully completed his Ph.D

English, Government Arts College (A), Coimbatore on 10.2.2023, thesis entitled “Anthropological
Study of the Select Novels of Amit Chaudhuri” held at Government Arts College (A), Coimbatore.

Sports and Games


The Department of physical education has brought name and prominence to institution by
organizing many numbers of activities which get resulted into many achievements at various levels. Sport
is the essential part of our curriculum which motivates the students to involve themselves in Sports and
Games. Sports students have achieved victories in intercollegiate competitions and competitions
conducted at University, District and State Level. Students participated in 18 different events like (Cross
Country Competition, Athletics, Cricket, Hand Ball, Hurdles, Medley Relay, Race Walk, Chess,
Taekwondo, Swimming, Long Jump, Aquatics, Decathlon, Marathon and Foot Ball) won 60 prizes, which
brings laurel to the college it includes First, Second and Third positions.

Students Achievements
Department of Physical Education at VLBJCAS is considered as an important component of
overall personality development of our pupils. Sports policy of VLBJCAS is “To Develop Healthy Mind
in Healthy Bodies”

VLBJCAS aims to develop the overall personality of the Students through Sports and Physical
Activitiesas we firmly believe in its benefits. Students have achieved victories in intercollegiate
competitions and competitions conducted at University, District and State Level. Students involved
themselves in nearly 18different programs (Cross Country Competition, Athletics, Cricket, Hand Ball,
Hurdles, Medley Relay, Race Walk, Chess, Taekwondo, Swimming, Long Jump, Aquatics, Decathlon,
Marathon and Foot Ball) and won 105 prizes,which includes First, Second and Third positions and some
have stated below.

 Vishnu. M of III BA English Literature, secured III Place in State Level Taekwondo in South Zone
Inter -University Kho-Kho Tournament, held at Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University,
Kakinada, Andra Pradesh, from 27.12.2022 to 29.12.2022.

Placements
The Placement Office is the nodal point for companies to interact with VLBJCAS which is well
equipped and designed to handle and support the placement progression in all stages. Infrastructure
includes well furnished air conditioned rooms are available for pre-placement meeting, written tests, group
discussions and personal interviews. Student volunteers regularly assist on the day of the visit. 24
companies were visited at VLBJCAS in that 330 students were placed and received 546 offers from
various National and Multinational companies like Wipro, CG Vak Software and Exports Limited, Aveon
Info-tech Private Limited, KGISL, HRH Next, FinCover, Aditya Brilla Health Insurance, TVS Training
and Services, Federal Skill Academy, Sure TI Insurance Marketing PVT LTD, Stratadigm, Indian Co-
Operative Credit Society, AEE BEE Academy, IDFC First Bharat, Quess Corp LTD, Quintessena,

Center for Research


VLB Janakiammal College of Arts and Science has Centre of Research, which aims to promote
Research Activities among the students, researchers and faculty members. Center for Research organizes
Faculty Development Programmes and Seminars to enhance the knowledge of Faculty Members and
Research Scholars and National and International Level Conferences to create awareness on recent trends
in research works. Research center invites eminent Experts & Researchers in various areas of interest for
knowledge sharing and motivate the Faculty Members and Research Scholars to publish in refereed
Journals with good Impact factor and present their research papers in National and International
Conferences.

Center for Human Excellence


VLB Janakiammal College of Arts and Science has Center for Human Excellence, it is a man
making process towards achieving Good health, Sound mind, Intellectual sharpness and Character
building among the youth. This integrated approach will result in individual peace and prosperity leading
to Social, National and Global peace and prosperity by unfolding the hidden potentials of the youth. The
vision of the center is to have a profound impact on the role, performance, attitudes and behaviours of
corporations and other organizations, which become expressions of human excellence in achievement, in
progress, in social contribution, in stakeholder care, and in environmental responsibility.
Center for Competitive Examination
The institution has established a separate center i.e. ‘Center for Competitive Examinations’ to train
students to face the competitive exams, and also to motivate them to land up in good job. The aim of the
Center for Competitive Examinations is to promote the facilities, and provide students a better chance to
succeed in competitive examinations. The purpose of the Center is to help students to appear for the
competitive examinations, arrange the sufficient programs for the students to make them aware about the
competitive examinations and its strategy. It provides the examination details then and there and also
provides the effective trainings to reach their goal with great success. It motivates the students to learn
about the competitive exam preparation with some useful tips. It helps to bring out the success of the
students with the assistance of ICT based teaching and learning. It provides guidance for the stress free
examination along with some motivational tips to grab the opportunities for successful life.

Center for Faculty Development


Faculty development is an essential element of Institutional effectiveness. Faculty professional
development contributes to the effective use of emerging technologies and establishes a firm foundation
for the overall development of high quality programs. Faculty development programmes include the four
possible types of development: personal (interpersonal skills, career development, and life planning
issues), instructional (course design and development, instructional technology) organizational (ways to
improve the institutional environment to better support teaching); and professional (ways to support

development has a critical role to play in promoting academic excellence and innovation. The Center for
faculty development was constituted to inculcate among faculties in motivating them to promote
institutional effectiveness through the development of personal, instructional, organizational and
professional growth of faculty.

NSS
Three Units of NSS in VLBJCAS provides students to apply their education in finding practical
solutions to the problems faced by the individuals and the community. NSS enables the students to
participate in various programmes of social service and national development in order to help the society.
NSS unit organized various Extension Activities on World Nature Conservation Day-Orientation
Programme and Tree Plantation, Drug Abuse Awareness Seminar, Blood Donation, White Wash
Programme, Leadership Training Programme, National Youth Day 2023- Competition. NSS unit
organized various Awareness Programme on Free Eye Screening Camp, Annual Coimbatore Peace
Festival, Pledge on Drug Abuse, Eat Right Mela Coimbatore 2022, Independence Day, Basic Life Support
-World Record Event, Poshan Maah-Nutrition, NSS Day Celebrations- Orientation Programme,
Orientation Programme, National Voters Day Poster Making Competition, Fit India Freedom 3.0 Yoga
Training and Awareness, HIV/AIDS for Young People, Covid-19 Vaccination Camp, A World Record
Attempt Bike Rally, Road Safety, Kovai Vizha-Organ Donation, Kovai Vizha-Road Safety, National
Deworming Day, Rally in rememberance of Dandi March, Exhibition (Short Flim) for "Unknown freedom
fighters" in Tamilnadu . It has also organized Swachh Bharat Programmes on Cleaning Campaign
programme -People Initiative for Cleaner Perur.
NCC
NCC of VLBJCAS plays a credible role in shaping the character of students by instilling the values
of patriotism, service, discipline and hard work. NCC executive committee which includes Senior
Division and Senior Wing cadets was headed by the Principal. Each cadet is trained to develop their
physical fitness through PT parade, Drill parade also conducted to improve their self discipline and their
attitude. Personality development classes were conducted to improve their leadership Qualities. Cadets
enrolled were given institutional training and can participate in adventure activities, community
development programmes, various national level camp and annual training camps; youth exchange
programmes, sports and cultural activities etc. The Army wing NCC Company in the college comes under
the command of 4 Tamil Nadu Battalion (COIMBATORE). NCC organized various camps on Blood
donation, Swatch Bharath Abiyan & Tree plantations, conducted many activities and programmes on Stop
Aids, Defence Sector, World Water Day, Yuva India 2022, World Environment Day etc. Nearly 8
programmes were conducted successfully for the betterment of the students and society.

Unnat Bharath Abiyan Cell


Villages adopted by VLBJCAS under the MHRD flagship project UNNAT BHARAT ABHIYAN
(UBA) are as follows:
 Devanampalayam
 Govindapuram
 Kaniyalampalayam
 Kappalankarai
 Kothavadi

The institution had already conducted an initial survey to understand the problems faced by the people
of these 5 villages. The Village and Household survey was successfully completed due to the active
participation of the village people and panchayat authorities.

Infrastructure
Nine LCD Projectors and 60 Systems were purchased during the academic year 2022-2023 for the
betterment of the students and also to improve the progress of teaching and learning.

Library
Library of VLBJCAS is equipped with 38,740 books approximately. It encompasses 53 National
Journals, 30 International Journals, 98 National Magazines, 2 International Magazines and 3,77,26,000+E-
Journals. We have 208 Books at Book Bank for underprivileged students to utilize it at ease. Students as
well as members of faculty can utilize the Digital Library which contains 22 Computers. 3,772
Educational CDs are ava ila ble in the Library. We are proud to be institutional members of various
societies like N-LIST, NDL, TNDL etc., (by UGC-MHRD).We also provide E-learning through NPTEL
online Web and video courses in various disciplines at digital Library.
Students Scholarships
 VLBJ Trust endow with scholarships for the deserving students under the category of merit and
sports quota.
