Representing Mongolia on the world stage with
authenticity and integrity is paramount.

Visualising our unique cultural heritage and


realising our ambitions into the future are all
part of our national design story.

More than just branding Mongolia with a logo and


a catchy line for tourists, this document endeavours
to capture the essence of our nation with GO
literally and metaphorically at its heart.

In this document you will see how design is part


of the very DNA of Mongolia. Moreover, how our
national symbols and character can be used to
create a design sensibility and narrative that can
only be Mongolian.

WORDMARK

More than just a logo, this is tribute to the symbols


that stand resolutely for our nation. The Soyombo
takes proud place on our national flag and
represents our many unique qualities as a people
and as a place. We have incorporated these
very symbols into a wordmark that could only
be Mongolian. This logo stands for Mongolia as
much as it stands out for Mongolia. It is designed to
capture our identity and the world’s attention.

LOGO
GO MONGOLIA

It is no coincidence that the word “GO” sits at the very


heart of our name and nation. It is a simple word with
a lot of meaning. Not only does it define our drive and
spirit as a nation, but it is a rallying call from all of us for
the world stage. We have incorporated “GO” into to
the overall design philosophy of our national branding
like no other nation could. “GO” provokes action and
stimulates momentum. Use it with Passion.

The flame represents the blossoming and continuation of the family.


Its three prongs signify prosperity for the Mongolian people in the past,
present, and future.

SOYOMBO The sun and crescent symbolize the origin of the Mongolian people.
NATIONAL SYMBOL

The Soyombo is our national symbol.


It is attributed to Zanabazar, the 17th century leader The triangles express our determination to defend the country’s freedom
of Mongolian Lamaism, a great statesman, and the and independence. The top one represents triumph over internal enemies,
father of Mongolian art and script. while the bottom symbolizes victory over external enemies.

The rectangles stand for honesty, justice, and meritocracy.

The yin-yang symbol means that men and women are unified. During
Communist times it was interpreted as two intertwined fish, which
symbolize vigilance and wisdom, as fish never close their eyes.

The two vertical rectangles on the sides of our emblem signify fortress walls,
a symbol of the Mongolian saying, “Two humans in friendship are stronger
than walls of stone.”

CONSTRUCTION

The MONGOLIA wordmark is constructed using


the complete Soyombo symbol. This is done by
using each element to craft unique letter forms that
create a modern wordmark.

The wordmark is bold, wide and includes a strong


use of contrast. All whilst keeping our values,
traditon and integrity.

EXCLUSION ZONE

The Exclusion Zone ensures the legibility


and impact of the Logo by isolating it from
competing visual elements such as text and
supporting graphics. x x

This zone should be considered as the absolute


minimum safe distance, in most cases the Logo
should be given even more room to breath.

The exclusion zone is equal to the upright height


of the ‘L’ (marked as X in the diagram).

Regardless of communication size or dimension,


the Logo can only ever be placed in five locations.
This keeps Logo placement simple and consistent,
while allowing enough flexibility to accommodate
our dynamic graphic system.

Please keep in mind the Logo exclusion


zone when placing the Logo in a corner.

that we have our own national font. We have
extended the the creation of our national word
mark and logo to a complete typeface in both
alpha numeric Roman English and Cyrillic. This is
a font that makes its presence felt among other

EXTENDED PALETTE

We need only to look to the very fabric of our


nation for inspirational colour. From the primary
colours that constitute our national flag to the
brilliant colours embroidered into our traditional
costumes. These all create a pallet that is unique
to Mongolia, especially in the way they all come
together. Our colours are used to enhance,
compliment or contrast with each other. Colour
usage is democratic in our design and as vibrant
as the rich tapestry that is our nation.

LOGO USAGE

As GO Mongolia is used throughout brand assets,


“GO” should always be shown with one of the brand
colours. Whilst only using black or white for the
remaining letters (shown to the right)

Which one you choose for any brand asset is up to


you, but you must ensure there is enough contrast
and all parts of the logo is clearly seen.

CONTRAST

Contrast should be the biggest priority when


selecting what logo colourway to use. When
used correctly the logo will always stand out
from any background.

Avoid using a similar colourway when

THE DEER STONE


PETROGLYPHS

The monumental Deer Stones of the ancient Steppe have


connected us with our pastrol traditions since the Bronze
age. These megaliths stand as a testament to an unbroken
cultural narrative carved as petroglyphs into our national
psyche. We’ve interpreted the designs on the Deer Stones
to be elemental to our contemporary national brand story.

BITMAP SCREENS
When images are not needed, we have created a
graphic treatment that can be used to create visual
compositions.

This is done by using one of the famous deer


stone petroglyphs (see previous page) to create
a bitmap image. The 3 bitmap layers should use
complementary colours from our palette.

The bitmap image should never be used in its


enterity, but should be cropped in interesting ways.

Our image of Mongolia to the world should always be
authentic, honest and engaging. Photography should
always be from a personal point of view.

Un-retouched, unfiltered and unashamedly


Mongolian. The people who best know Mongolia
are Mongolians and we should always endeavour
to use Mongolian photographers. The viewer should
feel as though they are being let in on a well-kept
secret, a private invitation to see something first-
hand and be in the moment. Natural light is always
best when possible. Nothing posed or over stylised,
we look to capture character, texture, pattern.
Imperfections have stories to tell, sometimes the detail
can be left out and just the mood is enough to tell the
story. Landscapes can be vast and the context can
sometimes be up close in extreme narrow focus. There
is no one way to portray Mongolia as long as it is real.
