Political science practical

Introduction
My project is a elaborative study on the topic article 370.
Article 370 which came into effect in October 1949, which granted Kashmir autonomy of internal
administration, allowing it to make its own laws in all matters except finance, defence, foreign affairs
and communication.
This topic covers Kashmir’s special status, abolition of the article 370 , politics since 1948, insurgency
in Jammu and Kashmir , disadvantages of article 370, later developments, famous militant and
separatist leaders, international reactions , autonomy to Kashmir , restrictions , current status of
Kashmir, prospects.
Since Kashmir’s integration with the union of India , Kashmir has remained one of the burning issues
in post -independence India. The problem became more complicated when it was accorded a special
status in the constitution through article 370 and article 35a. THE NDA government presented the
Jammu and Kashmir reorganisation bill in the rajya sabha on 5th august, 2019 . for abolition of article
370 and 35a which was passed by the lok sabha on 6th august ,2019 .
The abrogation of article 370 also instilled a fear of insecurity in the minds of the local people. As it
allowed anyone from India to use the Kashmir land and resources as they wanted to use – there
were no restrictions anymore. Some famous militant leaders were syed salahuddin, masood Azhar ,
hafiz saeed, yasin malik, Asiya andrabi .
Currently after the abrogation of the article 370, Kashmir has been bifurcated into two union
territories ; jammu and kashmir , and Ladakh . And Jammu and Kashmir was given a legislative
assembly with limited powers and much like other union territories such as Delhi. Ladakh , however,
became a union territory without a legislative assembly , directly administered by the central
government of India .

I chose to focus on Article 370 of the Indian Constitution for my political science project because of
its historical significance and its relevance to contemporary political debates in India. Article 370,
which granted special autonomy to the region of Jammu and Kashmir, has been a subject of intense
discussion, legal battles, and political reforms over the years. Understanding its implications offers
insights into the delicate balance between federalism, regional autonomy, and national integration.
Furthermore, the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019 marked a landmark event in Indian
political history. This move sparked widespread debate and raised important questions about the
future of Jammu and Kashmir, its relationship with the Indian Union, and the broader implications for
federal governance. As someone who is keen to understand both the legal and political dimensions
of such decisions, I felt that studying Article 370 would provide me with a comprehensive
understanding of constitutional law, the politics of national integration, and the challenges faced by
the Indian state in dealing with regional aspirations.
