science and mathematics (Grades 6-8).
• Secondary Stage (4 years): Aims at multidisciplinary studies with emphasis on critical
thinking, flexibility, and choice in subjects (Grades 9-12).
2. Multilingualism and Regional Language Focus
The policy emphasizes mother-tongue or regional language instruction at least until Grade 5, and
where possible, until Grade 8. This linguistic inclusivity promotes national integration while
strengthening foundational comprehension through native languages.
3. Digital Integration in Education
NEP advocates the creation of a national body dedicated to digital content curation, making
learning resources widely accessible. Emphasis is laid on integrating technology into education
to enhance pedagogical practices and broaden access, particularly in under-resourced areas.
4. Teacher Development
Teacher education reforms are at the forefront, mandating a minimum four-year integrated B.Ed.
program. Continuous professional development and re-skilling are institutionalized to meet
evolving educational demands.
5. Assessment Reforms
Traditional rote-based exams will be replaced by formative assessments that prioritize critical
thinking and conceptual understanding. A National Assessment Centre will be established to
track learning progress and reimagine examination methods, shifting focus toward critical
thinking, concept application, and real-world problem-solving. A National Assessment Centre will
monitor learning outcomes, while board exams will be restructured to reduce high-stakes
pressure.
6. Vocational Education
By 2025, 50% of students will be enrolled in vocational training tracks from Grade 6 onwards.
Practical skills will be emphasized through internships and industry-linked training, ensuring
employability alongside academic education.
7. Equitable Access and Reducing Dropouts
The NEP targets reducing dropout rates, especially among marginalized communities, by offering
scholarships, incentives, and structured support systems. The overarching goal is to make quality
education universally accessible.
8. Holistic Higher Education
The policy aims to enhance the quality of higher education institutions, promoting
multidisciplinary learning, vocational training, and research. This includes a restructuring
initiative to merge smaller colleges into universities to optimize governance and academic
output.
9. Mental Health and Well-Being Support
Acknowledging the mental health challenges of students, NEP integrates counselling services
within schools. Teachers will be trained to recognize and address emotional well-being, ensuring
a nurturing learning environment.
10. Long-Term Vision
A review of the policy’s implementation will be conducted by 2030 to ensure that the NEP
remains aligned with the evolving educational landscape, striving to prepare students for global
success.
