NUMBER SYSTEM:

TEST OF DIVISIBILITY:
NUMBER RULE
2 All even numbers
3 Sum of the digits should be a multiple of 3
4 Last two digits of the number should be a
multiple of 4
5 Last digits should be either 0 or 5
6 Should be a multiple of both 2 and 3
7 Cross of last digit, double it and subtract.
Repeat the same if you want. If the new
number is divisible by 7, the original
number is divisible by 7.
8 Last three digits of the number should be a
multiple of 8
9 Sum of the digits should be a multiple of 9
10 Last digit should be 0
11 Add and subtract the digits in the
alternating pattern. If the difference is 0 or
a multiple of 11 then the given number is a
multiple of 11.

FACTORS:
To find the number of factors for a given number, write the given number by Prime
Multiplication.

N = a P∗bQ∗c R … …

Where,
a, b and c are prime numbers.
Number of factors = (P+1)(Q+1)(R+1)……
EXAMPLE: To find the number of factors for 1800,
1800 = 23∗32∗52

(3+1)*(2+1)*(2+1) = 36 factors

ODD FACTORS:
After writing the given number as a Prime Multiplication, consider the Odd numbers
only.
1800 = 23∗32∗52. In which, 32∗52, the number Odd factors is (2+1)(2+1) = 9 Odd
factors.

EVEN FACTORS:
After writing the given number as a Prime Multiplication, take out a 2 outside and
find the number of factors for the remaining numbers.
1800 = 23∗32∗52 = 2(22∗3 2∗52).

Number of Even Factors = (2+1)(2+1)(2+1) = 27 Even Factors.

SUM OF THE FACTORS:

To find the sum of all the factors of a given number,
N = a P∗bQ∗c R … …
(P +1)
a −1 (Q +1)
∗b −1
a−1 R +1
Sum of the Factors = ∗c −1 ……
b−1
c−1

PRODUCT OF THE FACTORS:

To find the product of all the factors of a given number,
N = a P∗bQ∗c R … …
Number of Factors
Product of the Factors = (Number) 2

MAXIMUM POWER OF A NUMBER IN A FACTORIAL:

To find the maximum power of any given number in a factorial, write the number to
be find out in prime multiplication.
For example, let us find the maximum power of 200 in 100!
200 = 23∗5 2.

This represents, to produce 200. It requires a total of three 2’s and two 5’s.
Number of 2’s in 100! is, Number of 5’s in 100! is,
100 100
= 50 = 20
2 5
50 20
= 25 =4
2 5
25
= 12
2
12
=6
2
6
=3
2
3
=1
2
Number of 2’s = 50+25+12+6+3+1 = 97
Number of 5’s = 20+4 = 24
3 32
2 = (2 ) ∗2
97

2 12
5 = (5 ) . Here, the number of 5 is 12. So the number of 200’s in 100! Is 12.
24 2

TRAILING ZEROES:
The definition is the number of consecutive zeroes from the rightmost digit.
To get a trailing zero, we require a five and a two.
To find the number of trailing zeroes in a factorial, it is enough to check only number of 5’s.
As number of 5’s is lesser than the number of 2’s.
Example: Number of trailing zeroes in 150!
150
= 30
5
30
=6
5
6
=1
5
The number of 5’s in 150! Is 30+6+1 = 37
So the number of trailing zeroes will be 37.
To find the number of trailing zeroes in any expression, then we need to check both the
counts of 2’s and 5’s.
For example, the number trailing zeroes at the end of this expression
20*25*30*35*40*45*50 will be,
Number of 2’s in 20 is 2 Number of 5’s in 20 is 1
Number of 2’s in 25 is 0 Number of 5’s in 25 is 2
Number of 2’s in 30 is 1 Number of 5’s in 30 is 1
Number of 2’s in 35 is 0 Number of 5’s in 35 is 1
Number of 2’s in 40 is 3 Number of 5’s in 40 is 1
Number of 2’s in 45 is 0 Number of 5’s in 45 is 1
Number of 2’s in 50 is 1 Number of 5’s in 50 is 2
Total number of 2’s = 2+0+1+0+3+0+1 = 7
Total number of 5’s = 1+2+1+1+1+1+2 = 9
Since the number of 2’s is 7. Hence the number of trailing zeroes at the end the given
expression will be 7.
