(e.g moisturizer dry skin,

skincare formulator you
must know all this before
formulating a product... so
that you will know the kinds
of ingredient to add to your
product...
2. Knows Percentage;-
formulations are written in
percentages rather than in
cups, grams, ounces or
tablespoons.. this promote
accuracy and constituency,
easily creating batches of
various sizes (small to large)
depending on how much of
the desired product is
needed...
3. Understand Ingredient
Percentage Range;- when
deciding on what type of
fininshed product to
produce (e.g balms, soaps,
lotions e.t,c) it is necessary
the know the percentage
range of the each ingredient
and to determine how much
safe is to use...
4. preservatives;- it is
essential to add
preservatives to prevent
microbes from growing in

AND LOTIONS
1. What Is A Skin Cream?

A cream is defined as “a
thick liquid or semi-solid
cosmetic or medical
preparation appliedtothe
skin”
Creams and lotions are
composed of two phases,
that in normal conditions
cannot be
mixed, such as a water
phase and an oil phase. If we
pour some oil drops into a
glass of water and we mix
them vigorously, no matter
how we shake it, oil and
water will stay separate. This
is due to their nature: water
is a polar solvent while oil is
apolar. This condition makes
a mix impossible and, as a
result, we will have always
two phases. During the
formulation, we refer to the
water and the oil phase as
phase A and phase B,
respectively.
To mix these two phases we
will need a compound that
has both a polar and an
apolar part: which is An
Emulsifier.
They will act in this way: the
polar part or “hydrophilic
head” will be dissolved in
phase A (water) while the
apolar part or “hydrophobic
tail” will be dissolved in the
phase B (oil). In the end, we
will obtain a mixture called
emulsion.
2. Lotions vs Creams
Both lotions and creams are
the results of an emulsion,
but what is their difference?
The main difference is due
to its consistency. Lotions, in
fact, are much more fluid
than creams, which result,
instead, semi-solid.
The different consistency is
given by the amount of
water used. In fact, lotions
have a large amount of
water, which gives them
their fluid appearance.
Creams, on the other hand,
have a water content of
around 50%, making them
much denser and more
consistent.
3. Lotions vs Cream: What to
choose
Depending on our skin type
we will have to choose
whether to formulate a lotion
or a cream.
The lotion is ideal for normal
or oily skin that does not
need extra oils to be
moisturized. The lotions are
quickly absorbed, unlike
creams.
The creams, due to their
high amount of oils, are
suitable for dry skin, which
needs more oils to be
nourished and moisturized.

KINDS OF OIL TO USE?
Beyond the amount of water
used, a certain % of oils and
butter are used in lotions
and creams, which may vary
depending on the
formulations and skin type.
However, the oils are not all
the same and their choice
should not be random.
Another important aspect to
consider is to choose the
right oil. Oils are classified in
different groups according
to their viscosity.
Example;-
· Jojoba oil and coco-
caprylate oil are considered
really light oil;
· argan oil, olive oil, coconuts
oil are light,
· wheat germ oil and
avocado oil are medium,
· castor oil and linseed oil are
heavy.
After those, we have butter
like mango and shea butter.
For my formulations, I try to
use a representative oil of
each category, of course in
different % according to the
goal of the cream. For
example: if I want to prepare
an oil-free skin lotion(for oily
skin), I will use more ‘really
lightʼ oil than butter. if your
want to prepare all skin
types lotion use the medium
oils... and the heavy oils are
good for very dry skin type..

PROCEDURE
measure your wax and
cethyl alcohol, jojoba oil,
avocado oil,baoba oil and
mango butter together in a
bowl and place it on a
double boiler to melt..
measure the sea buckthorn
extract and calendula
extract in a bowl and place it
on a double boiler...
place the distilled water on a
double boiler or in a
microwave to warm a little
after it has fully melted add
the melted oils together and
slowly the distilled water and
mix together with your hand
mixer until it comes out
creamy...
measure the solagum and
dissolve with glycerine and
add it to the mixture and mix
together with your hand
mixer...
after it has cool down add
the essenitial oils and
preservative...and stir
together..
test the ph level wheather is
balance or not... the ph
levels of this must falls from
4.3 to 4.5
your rich face cream cream
is ready is good to go for all
skin types to be make it
more whiten you can add
whitening powders and
whitening serums...
NOTE:- these are used to
increase ph level of a
product (sodium hydroxide,
sodium
bicarbornate, or arginine)
you dissolve it in water and
add it to the product you
formulate and you test the
product again... while citric
acid and lactic are use to
decrease...

NIGHT CREAM FROM
SCRATCH
For a night cream you would
choose the barrier type of
cream that locks in moisture
while you sleep, to be
washed off in the morning
and then apply a light Day

Calendula is an excellent
herb for the skin, castor or
meadow form oil assists with
TEWL [trans-epidermal
water loss], aloe restore skin
health, and the other oils
and butters are rich
ingredients. Trophenol T-50
should be added as an
antioxidant for the oils to
prevent rancidity. Vegetable
glycerin is a humecant to
draw moisture from the air to

NOTES:- For a body cream a
“lighter” oil is used that
absorbs quickly, a higher
percentage of water, a lower
percentage of emulsifier for
a light thin cream that will
spread easily and absorb
into skin quickly.
For a stiffer body cream you
can add .05 % kaolin clay as
an additive, mixing your EO
into the clay before adding
to the cream and decrease
the water base by .05 5 so
as to keep the total
percentage at 100 %.

BODY BUTTER
Basically, body butters are
not really creams since there
is NO water base ingredient
in the formulation and
therefore no emulsion. Add
T-50 to your oils for an
antioxidant to prevent
rancidity. Since there is no
water base, no preservative
is necessary.
You can combine any oil/or
oil combinations, you desire
with any butter you desire
and whip it with a stick
blender until smooth and
creamy. Body butters are
often used for areas of dry
skin such as elbows, knees,
feet, hands, etc.
A little bit of Beeswax will
stiffen the body butter but
the butter will Not penetrate
the epidermis as well and
might be better used as a
Night body butter to be
washed off in the morning.
Basic Night Body Butter
1oz - 50 % Shea or cocoa
butter [or other butter of
choice] 1oz - 50 %
fractionate coconut oil or
grapeseed oil
1oz –jojoba oil
To which 1 % of T -50 has
been added to the oil used.

Directions for Body Butter:
1. Melt butter and bee-wax
in a glass dish in microwave
and cool to room
temperature, but does not
reach a solid state again.
2. mix T-50 with the Using a
stick blender, slowly pour oil
into butter and blend until
thick and creamy.
3. Pour into a jar and cool
before capping so no
moisture forms under the
cap. Store in cool dry place.
HOW TO MIX FILIPPINO SET

this product is very high and
is a strong bleaching
agent..to some skin , if is

PREPARATION

METHOD
Step 1: place Soap Base and
place it into your mixing
bowl. Set aside.
Step 2: In a separate bowl,
weigh out your mango
butter, Powders and
fragrance oil, and optiphen.
Step 3: Next, using your
hand held mixer, start to
whip the whipped soap
base. You will notice the
base will start to appear like
creamy.
Step 4: When you have
reached this point, add the
weighed out mango butter,
fragrance oil, and optiphen
to the whipped soap base.
Using a spatula, begin to
fold the ingredients into the
whipped soap base. You
want to thoroughly mix this
to incorporate it well.
Step 5: Next, add Bentonite
clay powde and other
powder. Using your spatula,
fold the clay into the
whipped soap base. Make
sure you clean the sides of
the bowl with a spatula.
Step 6: Start whipping the
mixture again. Make sure the
mixture is well blended.
When the mixture begins to
look like whipped frosting
again, stop beating.

incorporate. Next, add
Fragrance Oil. Stir until fully

Then, equally divide the
mixture using 2 mixing
bowls. To the first bowl, add

Stirring occasionally, let
these bowls set until the
mixture reaches room

have a smooth consistency.
Step 4: Once your oils have
melted, remove them from
the heat. Allow the
