COMPANY PROFILE OF MELESE MENBER BIRHANU (MMB)

IMPORT, EXPORT & ASSOCIATES

Melese Menber Birhanu (MMB) Import, Export & Associates is one of the youngest but quite far

sighted enterprises in the country. It is engaged in multiple business operations and sectors such

as Import, Export, transport and construction.

Melese Member Import, Export & Associate is a sole proprietorship business that was registered

and established under the Ethiopian law and obtained its legal personality on 05/12/2007 E.C

(August 11/2015 G.C) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia with registered and paid up capital of Birr

2,000,000. The company has strong financial resources and has the experience working with

different domestics banks. It has also experienced and qualified personnel who are dedicated to

an enhanced competitive advantage and improved organizational performance. The company

started its business activities with an initial capital of Birr 2,000,000 with 3 employees. Currently

the company is operating with more than 30 permanent employees.

Export of oil seeds and pulses green mung, niger seed, sesame seed, white pea beans, chick pea

beans, caster seed, soya bean and fresh chat.

The oil seeds and pulses are destined to Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Hong Kong, China, India,
Turkey, Israel, UAE, Germany and other Far East countries. The company intends to further
expand its operation by exporting the country’s main agricultural product- coffee- so as to
contribute its part in the generation of foreign currency that is crucial for the development of the
country

Import of electronics - computers and computer accessories, washing machine, fridge, TV,
plastic materials, stationeries, advertisement materials and paint, tyres and factory raw materials
- raffia, Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) etc.

TRANSPORT SERVICE: The Company has engaged in the fuel transportation services that
transport refined oil from Djibouti port to the various parts of the country.

Construction: The Company has engaged in construction business. The company constructs
buildings used for houses, businesses and mixed used.

MANUFACTURING: The Company also expands its business to manufacturing sectors. The
construction of plastic recycling & wood-plastic composite factory in Bahirdar and flour, pasta &
macaroni and noodle factory in Injibara (Awi Zone of Amhara Region) are in-progress.

Furthermore, it has an independent but affiliated company, called MFT Trading PLC that was
established and registered in 29/6/2011E.C (March 8, 2019 G.C) in which Ato Melese Menber is
major shareholder. MFT Trading is engaged in hotel and restaurant, export of trade of agricultural
raw materials, livestock, and food, beverages, tobacco and tobacco products

ORGANIZATION
The organization is organized in such a way that there has General Manager at the apex

of the hierarchical ladder followed by D/General Manager. Under direct supervision of

the D/General Manager, there are three functionally related departments: Finance and

Administration, Commercial and technical departments where all of them run the day-

to-day operation of the business under direct supervision from the D/General Manager.

GENERAL MANAGER

The General Manager oversees the implementation of policies that are set for the

operation and development of the business according to the procedures set by the

establishment. He devises working procedures and prepares work programs and plans

that enable the establishment to give efficient services and thereby increase annual

sales.

D/ GENERAL MANAGER

The D/General Manager is responsible for major functional elements such as organizing,

planning, directing, controlling and supervision of the various activities of the business.

He is accountable to oversee all day-to-day affairs of the business and operations of the

departments that are under its direct supervision.

ADIMINISTRATION AND FINANCE DEPARTMENT

This department leads the Finance and administration functions of the business

entrusted with the tasks such as advising the top management and the owner;

managing the day to day activities of the financial operation; applying and practicing

sound administrative functions, personnel management; administration of property etc.

COMMERCIAL DEPARTMENT

Under the general direction of the D/ General Manager, the commercial department

plans, assigns, directs, coordinates and control the department’s operation;

administering the general market and business operations; developing and establishing

marketing polices and business strategies, managing product distribution channels;

follow-up quality management of goods and development functions ; follow-up import

operations; ensure that market conditions are under continuous review coordinates;

market research activities and supply management with up to date market information,

etc.

TECHNICAL DEPARTMENT

Under the general direction of the D/General Manager, the technical department plans,

assigns, directs, coordinates and control the department’s operation; administering the

technical issues related with acquisition and maintaining oil seeds and pulses for making

the products ready for export that include but not limited to plant quarantine

prevention and control ; food safety management; store management; finished product

export inspection; safety management; process control procedure; personnel profile

and training procedure; adhere to standard process parameters; set critical process

parameters; control and monitor food safety risks; biological control of disease vectors;

cleaning and disinfection management, etc.

MANAGEMENT PROFILE

The business having a total of 30 employees including the General Manager and

deputy General Manager so as to run the day-to-day activity of the business. All

employees engage on direct activities that perform operational, administrative and

other support functions. The qualification of the staffs consists of qualified personnel

having master degree in business administration and first degree in various disciplines.

To accomplish our business objectives the company has recruited number of staff

members for administrative as well as operational activities with proven knowledge and

experience. Thus, the company has management members who are outstanding by

their efficient and functional expertise with their hands-on experience, thereby ensuring

1. MAJOR ACHIVEMENTS
1.1. COMPANY GROWTH

Using 2009 EC as a base year, the sales of the company increased by 189%, 68%,

and 160% in the year 2010, 2011 and 2012EC respectively. Thus, the company has

penetrated the market and able to increase its market share.

During the four years period, out of total revenue the export sales, on average,

constitute 86%.It grew more than 6 times from 2016/17 to 2019/20 E.C. Thus,

during this period, the company has contributed a foreign currency of USD

3,029,347.41 to the country.

 The company has contributed a foreign currency of USD 3,029,347.41 to

the country during the four years period.

 The company has created an employment opportunity for more than 30

citizens.

In general the company has grown radically and diversified.

As a newly emerging business MBB & Affiliate business recognizes the need to

in the best interests of its environment and society as a whole. The company
