East Coast Rail Link (ECRL)


This project aims to reduce the development gap between these two regions by building a fast
and accessible rail link, especially for Kelantan, Terengganu, and Pahang.
One of the initiatives introduced by Tun Dr. Mahathir to improve the construction industry is
reducing project costs and improving the local economy.
Before the review, the estimated cost of the project was RM65.5 billion. However, after

renegotiations with the Chinese government, the project cost was reduced to RM44 billion.
Next, is to support local contractors. The main goal was to give at least 40% of the public works
to local companies.
ECRL project has created many job opportunities for locals, especially in Kelantan,
Terengganu, and Pahang.

PUTRAJAYA
Open 1990,sebagai pusat pentadbiran persekutuan malaysia,mengurangkan kesesakan di KL
dan menjadi simbol moden malaysia.
Building Putrajaya required large-scale infrastructure such as government complexes,
transportation networks, and utility systems.
This sparked increased demand for construction services, labor, and materials.
Collaboration with international contractors and architects fostered knowledge transfer,
helping local workers gain expertise in advanced construction techniques and technologies.
Rising demand for residential and commercial spaces around Putrajaya has spurred further
construction projects in housing and commercial real estate.

KUALA LUMPUR CITY CENTRE (KLCC)


KLCC has contributed significantly to Kuala Lumpur’s and Malaysia’s economies by attracting international businesses and
multinational corporations. The Petronas Twin Towers have brought in tenants from around the globe, solidifying Kuala
Lumpur’s reputation as a business hub in Southeast Asia.
The iconic Petronas Twin Towers are a key attraction for both domestic and international tourists, establishing Kuala Lumpur
as a must-visit destination. KLCC has become synonymous with Malaysia’s global image, helping the country attract millions
of tourists annually.
The development pushed forward the construction industry, with innovations in high-rise building techniques, sustainable
practices, and regulatory compliance.
The project has driven the growth of high-end retail, dining, and cultural spaces, reshaping Kuala Lumpur’s landscape and
positioning it as a modern urban city.

CYBERJAYA
The development of major highways like the South Klang Valley Expressway (SKVE) and the Maju Expressway
(MEX) connected Cyberjaya to Kuala Lumpur, making it easily accessible for businesses and residents,.
Established the Multimedia University (MMU) in 1997 as a key academic institution focused on ICT,
engineering and technology.
Integration of green building technologies and sustainable urban planning, Tun Dr. Mahathir ensure the city’s
design incorporated green spaces, energy-efficient buildings, and environmentally friendly infrastructure.
Tun Dr. Mahathir focus on public-private partnerships (PPPs) since public resources alone would not be
sufficient to finance such an ambitious project. This leads to the government collaboration with the private
developer such as Setia Haruman that lead the development of Cyberjaya’s infrastructure.
