School President Diosdado Macapagal Grade Level 9

Memorial NHS
Teacher Michelle G. Montemar Learning SCIENCE
Area
Teaching Dates November 28, 2023 Quarter SECOND
and Time
DAILY LESSON LOG IN SCIENCE 9
I. OBJECTIVES
A. CONTENT The learners demonstrate understanding of:
STANDARDS 1. the development of atomic models that led to the description of the
behavior of electrons within atoms
2. how atoms combine with other atoms by transferring or by sharing
electrons
3. forces that hold metals together
B. PERFORMANCE
STANDARDS
C. LEARNING Explain how the Quantum Mechanical Model of the atom describes
COMPETENCY the energies and positions of the electrons. (S9MT-IIa-22)
D. LEARNING At the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
OBJECTIVES describe an atom;
identify its fundamental components;
determine the number of protons, electrons, and neutrons in a
neutral atom; and
appreciate the importance of atom in all kinds of matter and
relate it to real-life experiences.
II. CONTENT ATOMIC STRUCTURE

IV. PROCEDURES

A. ELICIT
Q AND A PORTION

The teacher will act as a judge who will ask questions and the
students will be the candidates who will answer the questions of the
teacher.

1. What is matter?
2. What are the three basic states of matter?
3. Give an example of matter and identify its phase (solid, liquid and
gas).
B. ENGAGE MYSTERY BOX
The teacher will show the
mystery box and the students
will pass it to their
classmates. When the music
“stops” then the student who
holds the box will guess what is
inside the box.

C. EXPLORE A. WHAT’S THE WORD?

The teacher will ask the students to identify the word/term by solving
the word puzzles.

1. A + = atom

2. + = proton

3. + = neutron

4. + = electron

5. + +

= nucleus

B. LABEL IT!
The teacher will post the picture of an atom and ask the students to
label its parts.
Parts of an Atom

D. EXPLAIN ATOMIC STRUCTURE

The teacher will ask the students to watch the video in this link
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TYEYEIuTmGQ
Then, the teacher will ask the following questions
1. What is an atom?
2. What are its fundamental components?
3. How do atoms become stable?
E. ELABORATE PERFORMANCE TASK
The teacher will ask the students to describe the atomic structure by
doing the following activities:

Group 1: Concept Map

Group 2: Dramatization/Role-play
Group 3: Jingle

Criteria:
Concept/Idea-5
Creativity -5
Relevance - 5
Presentation - 5
20

F. EVALUATE
Directions: Read the following questions carefully and write the
letter of the correct answer.

1. What is the smallest particle of an element that retains the

chemical properties of that element?
A) Electron
B) Proton
C) Atom
D) Neutron
Correct Answer: C) Atom

2. What is the positively charged particle found in the nucleus of an

atom?
A) Electron
B) Proton
C) Neutron
D) Quark
Correct Answer: B) Proton

3. What is the negatively charged particle that orbits the nucleus of

an atom in specific energy levels or shells?
A) Proton
B) Electron
C) Neutron
D) Positron
Correct Answer: B) Electron

4. What is the neutral particle found in the nucleus of an atom?

A) Electron
B) Proton
C) Neutron
D) Positron
Correct Answer: C) Neutron
5. If a certain element has an atomic number of 12 and its mass is
24, what is its number of protons?

A) 6
B) 12
C) 24
D) 0

Correct Answer: B) 12

G. EXTEND Table completion

Complete the table below.

Element Z A p+ e- n0
1. Neon 20 10
2. Oxygen 16 8
3. Nitrogen 7 14
4. Sodium 23 12
5. Boron 5 6

C. Did the remedial
lessons work? No. of
learners who have
caught up with the
lesson
D. No. of learners who
continue to require
remediation
E. Which of my teaching
strategies worked well?
Why did these work?

F. What difficulties did I

encounter which my
principal or supervisor
can help me solve?
