Realmslore
New Year's Revel was an annual celebration of a new year's arrival according to the Calendar of Harptos. In
most places, the celebration involved sharing a hearty meal with family and friends. In Waterdeep, people were
allowed a day off from work to stay home and sip on ciders and broths.
SEER was the head spymaster of the Lords' Alliance, who hired and directed several groups of adventurers to
combat the various schemes of giants in the chaotic time following the breaking of the Ordning. She often
served mint tea and cookies to visitors.
A pestkiller was an expert at combating all manner of creatures considered vermin—anything from common
rats and spiders to oozes and kobolds. Many members of the smaller races, such as gnomes, halflings, and
even shield dwarves, were drawn to this profession.
Runara was a bronze dragon who led the Bahamutan monastery of Dragon's Rest on Stormwreck Isle. As an
ardent pacifist, she refused to fight even on the behalf of others. Her dream was to bring about lasting peace
between chromatic and metallic dragons.
Negarath was a flying city of ancient Netheril whose gravity-reversing mythallar and mismatched architecture
lent it a chaotic, slightly mad appearance. After Netheril's fall it became inhabited by sharn and a cult dedicated
to Demogorgon; these factions did not get along.
Swordcrag was a small mining village in the mountains of Tarkhaldale until it was conquered by an orcish tribe.
The orcs turned the crag into a fortified stronghold and kept control of it for over 1000 years, using it as a base
to strike against the nearby saurials of Tarkhaldan.
Namarra was a name carried by three different enchanted rapiers, each with its own properties and distinct
origin. They were possibly named for the ancient sword Namarra, which once belonged to King Esmel Torlath,
founder of Amn.
Kumur the Skeptic was a sage of Evernoster who undertook a study of the history of the magical sword
Namarra. He could not estimate a likely period nor locale for its origin, nor uncover any stories alluding to a time
before its forging.
Probability travel was a psionic power that allowed its manifester to travel to other planes of existence.
Curiously, it was asserted that using this power right as one was struck by a sphere of annihilation would
harmlessly destroy the sphere (although confirming this through experiments seems somewhat risky).
Consumption, also known as tubercolosis, caused infected individuals to waste away until their vitality
"expired". A number of variants existed, such as Halruaan consumption, which afflicted those exposed to the
plaguelands of Halruaa following the Spellplague.
