NARRATIVE REPORT

This report summarizes the successful Reading Month celebration held at Lingsat Integrated School
last November 2024, conducted in accordance with DepEd Order No. 9, s. 2005. The month-long event
aimed to cultivate a love for reading among our students and foster a culture of literacy within our school
community.
The Reading Month celebration officially commenced on November 4, 2024, with a kick-off
program announcing the various activities planned throughout the month. These activities were designed to
engage students of all ages and skill levels, promoting reading enjoyment and comprehension skills.
Throughout November, a range of engaging activities took place:
Spelling Bee: Weekly classroom spelling bee activities were held every Monday, sharpening student’s
spelling skills and vocabulary.
Tongue Twisters: To improve pronunciation and fluency, students enthusiastically participated in two-to-
three-minute tongue twister sessions before each English class.
Accordion Book Making: High School English students showcased their creativity and understanding of
literacy concepts through the creation of accordion books as a performance task.
Essay Writing: High school students further developed their writing and critical thinking abilities through
an essay performance task. The essay writing contest challenged participants to explore the multifaceted
theme of “Sa Pagbasa, May Pag-asa”. Students were tasked with crafting compelling essays that delved into
the transformative power of reading and its ability to inspire hope, foster personal growth, and broaden
perspectives. The contest provided a platform for students to express their unique interpretations of the
theme and showcase their writing abilities.
Peer Buddy Reading: To support struggling readers, a “Peer Buddy” program was implemented. For 10-15
minutes before the first period each day, independent readers worked with those experiencing reading
difficulties, providing individualized assistance and encouragement. This fostered a collaborative learning
environment and promoted a supportive school culture.
Nationwide Synchronized Reading Time
On November 22, 2024, Lingsat Integrated School (Junior and Senior High school) joined the
nationwide synchronized reading time, a powerful demonstration of our commitment to literacy, with
teachers and students participating together. This unified event served as a highlight of the month,
emphasizing the importance of reading across the country.
School-wide Contests in the High School Department
Spelling Bee Contest: Held on November 26, 2024, one student representing each section participated in a
spelling bee competition.
Quiz Bee: On November 27, 2024, a quiz bee was conducted, with three students representing each grade
level showcasing their reading comprehension skills.
Essay Writing Contest: On November 28, 2024, one student from each grade level competed in an essay
writing contest, demonstrating their ability to articulate their thoughts and ideas effectively.
In addition to the contests, classroom-based activities further enriched the learning experience:
Jazz Chant: Students engaged in jazz chant activities as a second-quarter performance task, incorporating
rhythm and creativity into their reading practice.
Character Portrayal: During the second-to-last week of November, students participated in character
portrayal activities in their classrooms, enhancing their understanding of literature through role-playing.
The Reading Month celebration at Lingsat Integrated School was resounding success. The diverse
range of activities and competitions effectively promoted reading, fostered a love of literature, and enhanced
students’ literacy skills. The nationwide synchronized reading time further underscored the importance of
literacy and our collective commitment to its advancement.
