Assignment:
1. Research and describe the biodiversity in your local area. How
does it affect your community's health and well-being?
- The local biodiversity of my area in Puerto Princesa City
Palawan, it includes a variety of flora and fauna,
encompassing forests, rivers, wetlands, and urban green
spaces. Common trees include oak, maple, and pine, while
local wildlife includes deer, foxes, rabbits, and various bird
species like sparrows, robins, and hawks. Aquatic ecosystems
feature fish like trout and bass.
Impact on Community health and well-being
• Ecosystem Services: Biodiversity provides essential services such
as air and water purification, pollination of crops, and regulation of
climate. Trees and plants absorb CO2, produce oxygen, and help
moderate temperatures, contributing to better air quality and climate
resilience.
• Nutrition and Food Security: Biodiversity supports agriculture by
enhancing soil fertility and pest control. A variety of plants and
animals ensure a balanced diet, contributing to overall health.
• Disease Regulation: Healthy ecosystems can reduce the
prevalence of diseases by supporting a balance of predator and prey
species, controlling populations of disease vectors like mosquitoes.
2. What actions can you take to help protect and promote biodiversity
in your community?
- The action that I will take or advocate is encouraged the
planting of native plants in gardens and public spaces to
support local wildlife, including pollinators and birds. Establish
community gardens, green roofs, and parks that provide
habitats for various species. Promote organic farming and
gardening practices to protect beneficial insects and other
wildlife.
3. List and describe at least three human activities that threaten
biodiversity?
- Urban development, deforestation, and agriculture expansion
lead to the loss of natural habitats, displacing wildlife and
reducing biodiversity. Air, water, and soil pollution from
industrial activities, pesticides, and plastic waste harm
ecosystems and the organisms that depend on them.
4. What are some methods used to conserve biodiversity?
Discuss at least two strategies.
- Establishing protected areas where human activities are
restricted helps preserve critical habitats and species. These
areas serve as refuges for wildlife and plants, ensuring their
survival and promoting ecological research.
5. What are some methods used to conserve biodiversity?
Dicuss at least two strategies.
- Enforcing laws and regulations that protect endangered
species and their habitats is crucia. Citizen science initiatives
empower individuals to contribute to scientific research and
conservation efforts. By integrating these strategies,
communities can work towards preserving and enhancing local
biodiversity, ensuring the health and well-being of both the
environment and its inhabitants.
- The planet Earth can indeed survive without human beings actively
taking care of it. Natural processes and ecosystems have sustained
life for billions of years, long before humans existed, and they will
continue to do so without human intervention. While human efforts
can mitigate some of the damage we have caused and help protect
certain species, the planet has inherent mechanisms for sustaining
life and maintaining ecological balance. Earth's natural processes
and the resilience of life forms ensure that the planet can survive
and even thrive without human intervention. This understanding
underscores the importance of reducing our negative impact on the
environment and allowing natural systems to function as intended.
