Read the following passage and answer the questions given below:
Birds have always delighted people all over the world because of their beauty
and their power of flight. Historically, they used to be considered as omens.
The ancient Romans believed that the flights and calls of birds could foretell
the future.
Gone are days when house sparrows were the most common birds amongst
bird species in India. The chirpy sounds made by these small birds are rarely
heard today; and their absence, even though tiny, is increasingly becoming noticeable, In fact,
they live wherever humans live and in such close quarters to us too. The house sparrow is not
among the most commonly found bird species in urban cities, but also the most loved. It is a
small brown-coloured bird, not bigger than a tennis ball, with black streaks on its back. In my
younger days, I remember seeing hordes of them flutering around market. House sparrows
nowadays are an endangered species, they are facing a crisis of survival in what was once their
natural range. The reasons are: rapidly changing cities are no longer a suitable habitat for the
house sparrow, as the new and modern design of buildings does not give any space for the
sparrow to nest; pollution caused by microwave towers and pesticides; the house sparrow loses
its natural grounds as the green spaces in our cities give way to more concrete constructions.
23. Why have birds always delighted people?
(A) Because they can eat insects (B) Because of their beauty
(C) Because they can chirp (D) Because they live on tress
