(b) Calculate the mass of sodium chloride required to prepare its 40% (mass/mass per cent)
solution in 100 g of water.

Mass of the solution = mass of solute + mass of solvent

Given that the mass percent of sodium chloride solution is 40%.
Let the mass of sodium chloride which is required to prepare this solution be x grams.
Given that the mass of water is 100 g.
So,
40=[x/(x+100)]×100 1m
40/100=[x/(x+100)]
2/5=x(x+100)
x=66.6 g
Thus, 66.6 g of sodium chloride is required. 1m

N2 + H2 → NH3
2.8g 0.6g 3.4g

2.8g + 0.6 = 3.4

3.4 g = 3.4 g
Mass of reactants = mass of products

forward and may fall off. That's why it is advised to tie any luggage kept on the roof of a bus
with a rope. 1m
ii) A cricket ball causes much severe injury than a tennis ball on hitting a spectator with the

Q.no. 37 to 39 are case - based/data -based questions with 2 to 3 short sub - parts. Internal choice is provided in
one of these sub-parts.

37 We always observe that an object dropped from a height falls towards the earth. We know that 4
all the planets go around the Sun. The moon goes around the earth. In all these cases, there
must be some force acting on the objects, the planets and on the moon. Isaac Newton explained
that the same force is responsible for all these. This force is called the gravitational force.
(a) State universal law of gravitation. Give a mathematical expression for it.

other with a force that is directly proportional to the product of their masses and inversely
proportional to the square of the distance between them. 1m

38 According to Dalton’s atomic theory, all matter whether an element, a compound, or a mixture 4
is composed of small particles called atoms which can neither be created nor destroyed during a
chemical reaction. Dalton’s theory provides a simple explanation for the laws of chemical
combination. He used his theory to explain the law of conservation of masses and the law of
constant proportions. Dalton was the first scientist to use the symbols for the elements in a very
specific sense. When he used a symbol for an element he also meant a definite quantity of that
element, that is one atom of that element.

(a) Complete the sentence: All the atoms of same element have identical mass. 1m
(b) What is the major limitation of Dalton’s atomic theory? Atom is indivisible 1m
(c) Explain how Dalton’s atomic theory could explain law of conservation of mass?
Dalton's atomic theory explains the law of conservation of mass by stating that atoms
cannot be created or destroyed. This means that the net mass of the reactants and products in
a chemical reaction is the same. 2m

OR
(c) A student has a sample of 200 g of table sugar (sucrose). In 200 g of sucrose, there is 84 g of
carbon. How much carbon will be there in 300 g of sucrose? Which law of chemical
combination do you use to solve this problem?
Mass of carbon on 300g of sucrose = 84/200 X300 = 126g 1g
39 Raman got injured while playing football. His injured leg started bleeding and his friends 4
immediately rushed him to the doctor for first aid. The blood flowing from the wound stopped
after sometime and the doctor applied antiseptic solution on the wound.

a. Why did blood stop flowing after sometime.

Because blood platelets reach the wound area and help in clotting of blood.
b. What kind of tissue is blood? Why?
Blood is a connective tissue as it helps connecting the parts of the body.
c. Which type of tissue was destroyed during injury?
Epithelial tissue was destroyed
d. Why did the doctor apply antiseptic solution?
As the epithelial tissue got destroyed. There is a chance of infection due to
pathogens. In order to prevent it, doctor applied antiseptic.
