ABSTRACT

This project proposal outlines the development of a car speed

detector utilizing Doppler radar technology to accurately
measure the speed of moving vehicles. Leveraging the Doppler
effect, the system calculates the speed of a car by observing
frequency changes in waves reflected off the moving object. The
project employs an HB100 Doppler radar module and an
Arduino microcontroller to detect vehicle speeds and display
them on a 16x2 character LCD screen. Essential components
include a potentiometer for LCD contrast adjustment, a resistor
for current limitation, and necessary prototyping materials. The
project utilizes the Arduino IDE for programming and the
LiquidCrystal library for LCD interfacing, while the PulseIn
function measures the radar module's pulse duration.

The total estimated cost of the project is approximately 17600,

covering all required components. The market demand for car
speed detectors spans law enforcement, traffic monitoring,
commercial logistics, and personal use, indicating significant
application potential. The project timeline is projected at five
weeks, encompassing research, hardware assembly, software
development, and calibration phases.

This cost-effective and feasible project aims to deliver an

accurate and reliable vehicle speed detection system, leveraging
widely available hardware and open-source software to meet the
needs of various market sectors.

Basic Idea of Car Speed Detector

The car speed detector utilizes Doppler radar technology to

measure the speed of moving vehicles accurately. The Doppler
effect, which observes frequency changes of waves reflected off
moving objects, is leveraged to calculate the speed of a car. This
project involves using an HB100 Doppler radar module paired
with an Arduino microcontroller to detect and display the speed
of vehicles on an LCD screen.

Hardware or Physical Devices Used

*HB100 Doppler Radar Module* : Measures the Doppler shift

caused by moving vehicles.
*Arduino Uno Microcontroller* : Processes the radar module's
data and performs calculations.
*16x2 Character LCD Display* : Displays the calculated speed.
*10k Potentiometer* : Adjusts the contrast of the LCD display.
*220-ohm Resistor* : Limits the current to the backlight of the
LCD.
*Breadboard and Jumper Wires* : For prototyping and making
connections.
*Power Supply* : 9V battery or USB power source for the
Arduino.

Software or Other Material Used

*Arduino IDE* : For programming the Arduino
microcontroller.
*LiquidCrystal Library* : For interfacing the LCD display with
the Arduino.
*PulseIn Function* : Measures the duration of the high pulse
from the radar module to determine frequency.
