A pair of linear equations in two variables can be written as :
a1x b1 y c1 0 & a2 x b2 y c2 0 , where a12 b12 0 & a2 2 b2 2 0
alos, a1, b1 , c1, a2 , b2 , c2 are real no.
If we plot the graph of a1x b1 y c1 0 & a2 x b2 y c2 0 on graph paper then, three situations
arises :
Situation 1 : the two lines intersect each other
Situation 2 : The two lines never intersect each other i.e. they are parallel
Situation 3 : The two lines overlap each other i.e lines are coincident.
Solution of pair of linear equation in two variables : Let we have two equations,
x + y =8, x-y=4
thus any real value in form of (x,y) is called solution of above equations which satisfy given two
equations. Therefore x = 6, y = 2 is only the solution of given equations as 6 + 2 = 8, 6 - 2 =4
Note : How to solve two eq. graphically :
Let a1x b1 y c1 0 & a2 x b2 y c2 0 ,
where a12 b12 0 & a2 2 b2 2 0 be two equations, then :

Q34. Anuj had some chocolates, and he divided them into two lots A and B. He sold the first lot at the rate of
Rs. 2 for 3 chocolates and the second lot at the rate of Rs. 1 per chocolate, and got a total of Rs. 400. If he
had sold the first lot at the rate of Rs. 1 per chocolate, and the second lot at the rate of Rs.4 for 5 choco-
lates, his total collection would have been Rs. 460. Find the total number of chocolates he had .
Q35. Places A and B are 100 km apart on a highway. One car starts from A and another from B at the same
time. If the cars travel in the same direction at different speeds, they meet in 5 hours. If they travel towards
each other, they meet in 1 hour. What are the speeds of the two cars?
