HYPERTEXT VS INTERTEXT
Linear Text – it refers to a traditional text that needs to be read from
beginning to the end. Hypertext – from the dictionary hyper that is over, beyond something more than usual. Hypertext – nelson (1987) described hypertext as a series of chunks connected by links that offer reader different pathways. Hypermedia – it is not just a text but also image, sounds, animation and video. Multimedia – it involves linking images, videos, sound and text. Types of intertextuality 1.Allusion – an expression that calls attention to something Without explicitly mentioning it. Often called a passing reference” 2. Parody – may copy the setting, plot, characters or other parts of the original work. 3. pastiche – borrow element from one or more works and reconfigures them to create something new Disadvantage of hypertext 1.Paper – based information is more comfortable to read – I still prefer to hard copy books. 2. Computer/ gadget is required – you need a gadget to read e-books or digital materials. 3. Readers disorientation – learners may lose their sense of direction or Location as they move and selects link and hypertext with so many links. 4. Cognitive overread – effort and concentration required to maintain level tasks at one time. 5. Causes eye strain- not good for the eyes. Reading from the screen is different from reading from book. 6. Too much control –
