Learning Episode 1: The Teacher We Remember

ANALYZE
1. From the PPSTs, the Southeast Asia Teachers Competency Standards and the
TEDx videos that you viewed, what competences does a great teacher have?
 The Teacher Competency in Southeast Asia comprises four core
comprises four competencies: (1) understanding and grasping the
subject matter, (2) aiding students in the learning process, (3) engaging
with the community, and (4) continually enhancing teaching skills.

2. Are these competencies limited only to professional competencies?

 Success is attainable through ambition, passion, dedication, and faith,
even for unlicensed teachers, as long as they put in the effort to excel.

3. For a teacher to be great, is it enough to have the professional competencies to

plan a lesson, execute a lesson plan, manage a class, assess learning, compute
and report grades? Explain your answer.
 The greatness of a teacher cannot be solely measured by tasks but
rather by the kindness, patience, and cooperation shown to students.
Willingness and passion in teaching are equally crucial factors.

4. For a teacher to be great, which is more important-personal qualities or

professional competencies?
 Instructors require personal qualities such as effective communication
and interpersonal skills to understand students needs, fostering an
environment where students can easily connect with and reach out to
their teacher.

5. Who are the teachers that we remember most?

 Teachers who loves us like their own, who gives us respect just like
what respect we give them and the teachers who motivates us not
teachers who judge us easily that are the teachers who will be
remember.

REFLECT
1. Which personal traits do I possess? Not possess? Where do I need
improvement in?
 As a students teacher, I recognize the importance of continuous
learning. Attending classes daily is crucial for both my students and
my own educational growth.

2. Which professional competencies am I strongly capable of demonstrating?

 I believe I possess a strong capability to excel in performance tasks or
activities that require a demonstration of skills and performance.

3. In which competencies do I need to develop more?

 It’s completely natural to feel nervous and shy in your first teaching
experience. Practicing and developing your communication skills will
help you become more comfortable and confident when talking to
students. Keep honing your teaching approach, you’ll likely find it
easier to connect with your students.

4. Who are the teachers that we remember most?

 M y TLE teacher in high school because they are very passionate in
teaching and very kind especially when we have a concern to them
they are willing to listen.

Write Action Research Prompts:

1. OBSERVE: While assisting my Resource Teacher, I noticed that personal

traits like passion for teaching and professional competencies such as fluency
were not prominently displayed. Surprisingly, this didn’t hinder students
motivation. They actively listened, learned, and demonstrated understanding,
evident in their expressions and high scores at the end of lesson.
2. REFLECT: The absence of essential personal traits and professional
competencies in teachers, as mentioned earlier, could potentially contribute to
students failing grades. A lack of interest in learning may arise, impacting
their academic performance negatively.
3. PLAN: Addressing the identified issue, conducting action research on
techniques to enhance teacher quality and classroom practices, as presented in
discussion session by the American Educational Research Association, could
be instrumental in resolving the challenges faced in classroom.
4. ACT:
a) The primary goal of my action research is to enhance the quality of
teaching in the classroom.
b) My specific research questions focus on identifying techniques and
strategies for achieving teaching quality.
c) To address these questions, I plan to leverage technology, considering

To be a good teacher it’s about creating a positive environment, being patient and
understanding, and always being ready to learn. Teachers should be approachable,
fair, and encouraging. Patience and compassion are important too. Understanding
each student’s needs and being empathetic is a key part of being a good teacher.
Also, teachers should keep learning and stay updated on new teaching methods. It’s
not an easy job, but it’s rewarding and makes a big difference in student’s lives.

This study aims to explore the potential of using virtual reality (VR)
Technology to improve and enhance the performance of physical education and
health (MAPEH) students. The proposed approach involves integrating a virtual
reality gymnasium into the traditional MAPEH curriculum. The virtual reality
gymnasium would enable students to participate in a variety of physical activities
without having to leave the classroom.

The activities would be designed to target various aspects of physical education, such
as cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength and endurance, flexibility,
coordination, and balance. This approach would allow students to become more
involved in physical activities, and to gain an in-depth knowledge and experience of
physical education and health. The findings of this study could be used to inform the
design and implementation of effective virtual reality-based physical education and
health curriculums in educational contexts.

Since the practice of teaching is constantly evolving I’ll conduct research, use
multimedia and develop my materials using current technologies.

 How does this connect with what you know about selecting and using
instructional materials?
Using mobile phone make it easy for the students to search appropriate
study material in the mobile application.

Reflect:
1. How ready am I in selecting and developing resources/instructional materials in
the teaching-learning process?
.Being well-prepared is crucial, and selecting relevant materials is essential
for effective teaching. It enhances learning, makes classes more engaging, and
allows teachers to explain concepts more precisely. From what I knew, I was
prepared for it.

2. What do I still need to learn to select and develop resources/instructional

materials in teaching effectively?
 Environment in the classroom
 Materials that are affordable and easily accessible
 Spending caps
 Sustainability

3. What can I do to learn more about and practice the use of resources and
instructional materials?
.Utilizing instructional materials to create an interest-driven objective
encourages learners to exert direct effort and seek individual attention. This
approach fosters meaningful communication and efficient learning, ultimately
guaranteeing enhanced retention and promoting long-term learning.

Notice:
1. Describe the structure of the LMS utilized by the teacher. How was it organized?
- The LMS used by the teacher is relevant. It is well organized; the
student used the apps easily. With the use of these LMS they can easily
communicate with their teacher. They can also pass their quizzes, assignment
and project easily.

2. What main components did you find?

As I’ve observed, the way the teacher taught his lesson is well-
organized. He begins his class by having a recapitulation of the things they
discussed yesterday. Then, he will present his motivation/engaging activity.
Then, he will explain the learning objectives they have to obtain at the end of the
lesson and will start discussing. Before the end of the class, he made sure to ask
the students if they understood the lesson the lesson well and if they have
clarifications. He ends the class by giving the assessment and activities.

3. How was the content taught or delivered? How were the learning activities
arranged? What strategies did the teacher or you use to help students attain the
objectives/outcomes?
While I was participating and assisting I have learned that with the use
of these LMS I can also teach the students even without meeting them
personality. These LMS helps to reduce the time of the students in going to
school they just need to comply with their requirements.
4. What was your experience in participating and assisting?
- I enjoyed observing and assisting because, I’m learning new ways on
how to deliver my lesson. This helps me a lot especially in creating strategy on
how to teach my lesson.

Analyze:

1. What do you think are the best features of the LMS that the teacher used? How
did these features help the students learn and content?
There is a component in GJC.EDU.PH where students need to open first
before entering their online classes. It is one of the best features because there is
a designation per subject.

2. How did the teacher/you use the LMS to implement the strategies/activities
planned?
Just like what I mentioned, the teacher used the LSM as room where
instructions about the classes subject are placed.

3. How did this connect with what know about LMS and TPACK?
A framework called TPACK aids in focusing on how technology,
pedagogy, and content interact. This paradigm can assist in linking what may
initially appear to be independent and distinct aspects of teaching practice into a
synergistic vision of integration when considering how to include the usage of
an LSM into teaching and the classroom.

4. What problem or challenges did the teacher/your or the students encounter in

working with the LMS? How did it/they affect the teacher/learners? What part/s
of the LMS do you think can be improved? How can this/these be improved?
We only had issues utilizing this LSM when it was being
maintenance. Some of its features are unavailable to students, causing a
disruption in class.

Reflect:

1. How ready are you in organizing and using an LMS?

I still need to get mastery over a few LSM elements. I need to investigate
it more initially at the present.

2. Enumerate the knowledge, skills and attitudes you already have to organize your
virtual environment and use an LMS:

 Content: This knowledge includes established procedures, methods for acquiring

such knowledge, and concepts theories, ideas, framework, evidence, and profs
related to the subjects hand.

 Pedagogical: This is the body of information and methods for teaching and
learning that a teacher can employ, such as planning, assessment, and
management of the classroom.
 Technological: For a teacher to confidently plan and use technology in the
classroom, even when it is not necessary, they must have his understanding and
mastery of it.

3. What do you still need to learn in order to use the LMS effectively?
To improve my learning on using LSM, I should make the content of my
discussion creative, actionable, and meaning. Of course, I have to start
practicing it in order to use LSM effectively.

the most challenging parts especially during the first part of SY 2020-2021

SAMR is a model designed to help educators infuse technology such as the use
of apps into teaching and learning.

REFLECT

What do I hope to address - the problem/challenge/area of improvement in

LMS use? What change do you want to achieve?
Effective instructions should strike a balance between active learning, utilizing
LMS technological resources, and adhering to curriculum guidelines. An LMS
enables instructors to facilitate discussions, plan online activities, set learning
expectations, offer learners choices, and aid in problem-solving and decision-making
processes. Maintaining an instructor's presence within an LMS contributes to an
engaging learning environment, allowing students to retain autonomy, enthusiasm,
and motivation.

PLAN

2. What strategies/solution/means can you employ to improve the situation/solve the

problem?
It's advisable to seek opinions, validations, recommendations, and solutions from
other teachers and various sectors of education. According to Bradley (2020),
stakeholders in educational communication should rely on scientific studies to support
their contributions in LMS platforms, aiding scholars in learning academic subjects
more effectively.

can add them on social media to guide the students of what are really are, what they
want and maybe you can find where student don’t want about of how you teach.
Beside you can have a spy in your students who can tell you of what to teach of what
they want to tackle lesson. Having fun.

Social Presence?
Aside of web-conference, teacher used messenger to ask where do students got

FIELD STUDY 2
Learning Episode 16: Assessing FOR, AS and Of Learning

Analyze:
 Did the formative assessment task help students master what they were expected
to learn?
Yes, in many cases the assessment also help students develop a stronger
understanding of their own academic strengths and weakness.
 Was students’ response to formative assessment exercises favorable or
unfavorable? Why?
It is Favorable because it improved academic achievement and
providing students and teachers with regular feedback on progress toward their
goals is the main function of formative assessment that will aid increasing
academic achievement. Formative assessment helps students close the gap
between their current knowledge and their learning goals.
Thus, effective use of quality formative assessment improves the
involvements of students in learning and also achievements in test. A similar
study showed that students who self-regulate their learning are those who
achieve significantly higher grades than those who achieved lower grades.

 Did the conduct of formative assessment and self-assessment affect students’

attainment of learning outcomes? How?
It affects students learning outcomes in a positive way because as I
have said earlier that there are some studies that formative and self assessment
helps students to improved more in academics and they will achieve
significantly higher grades and it Increases self-awareness through reflective
practice, making the criteria for self-evaluation explicit, and making
performance improvement practices intrinsic to ongoing learning.
 What was the effect of students assessing their own progress on their motivation
to learn?
It affects students to be more self evaluation and estimating your
capacity to be able to identify what are your strength and weakness in your
learning habits.

Reflect:
How would attainment of learning outcome be affected if there were no formative
assessment nor self-assessments?

Write Action Research Prompts:

OBSERVE
1. One thing that went well in the development/use/administration of formative
assessment tasks (assessment of learning) is during the learning and teaching
process, asses a students grasp and understanding of a skill or lesson. One thing
that went well in the development of formative assessment activities is that they
provide feedback to teaching and learning which can subsequently be used to
enhance students performance . students get more engaged in the learning process
as a result of this and they build confidence I what are required to learn and to
what standard they are expected to learn it.

2. One thing that did not go very well in the development/use/administration of

formative assessment task (assessment of learning) is I believe that if students do
not grasp the purpose of formative assessment and students do not comprehend
the purpose for formative assessment the usage or development of formative
assessment will not proceed smoothly.

3. One good thing observed in students’ self-assessment (assessment of learning) is

Students will determine their knowledge and abilities by allowing them to self-
evaluate or make judgments about their learning process and learning product using
the criteria they and their instructor agredd on.

4. One thing in students’ self-assessment (assessment of learning) that needs

improvement based on what were observed is to increase your learning abilities
or knowledge to inspire or urge yourself to be better learner.

REFLECT

The formative assessment activities went well because formative assessment involves
setting learning goals and measuring the progress towards those goals, motivation
increases.

The formative assessment activities process did not go well because formative
assessment is critical for differentiation . you can never be sure that your students will
be on the same level of understanding. So let’s correct this thinking. Differentiating
for various learners is a hallmark of modern teaching. Formative assessment deserve
the same kind of priority thinking. All learning must be assessment for impact and
effectiveness. Teachers know this and they’re more than up to the challenge.

For the students, self-assessment worked because it helps students stay within their
zone of proximal development when they’re learning, but they’re not being pushed
too hard into frustration.

For the students, self-assessment did not work because Self assessment can be
subjective that the students may not be sincere and may even-evaluate their own
performance. Time consuming for students and they may not be familiar with the
assessment criteria.

ACT

To ensure that formative and self-assessment processes serve their purpose, to help
students learn, I will learn form other’s best practices by researching on and collecting
information while learning is happening, formative assessment help teachers see were

Reflect:

How can I make the assessment process more meaningful to and more acceptable to students?
 Begin by pondering. Allow the exam to focus mostly on the major concepts and abilities that
were stressed throughout the unit in class. As a guide, use the learning objectives and student
outcomes. Provide students with a set explicit performance requirements.
