Edgardo G.

Vazquez
WIPO Inventor of the Year 1995 Edgardo Vazquez brought home the Gold Medal for the
modular housing called Vazbuilt. This is a system for building fire-, termite-, typhoon-
and earthquake-proof houses in less than a month using prefabricated posts and panels.
Such a system called Vazbuilt is reportedly capable of building within weeks a house
with prefabricated materials that can withstand typhoons and earthquakes.

The VAZBUILT system is practical and cost-effective. It does not require special skills
or heavy equipment, which allows for easy assembling and dismantling of components
for expansion and home improvements. Due to the simple construction requirement, a
VAZBUILT house takes less time to build with lesser workforce.

Leonardo Salvador Sarao (13 April 1921 – 31 July 2001) was the founder and owner of the Sarao
Motors, a company known for designing, manufacturing and selling the jeepney, the most popular
mode of transportation in the Philippines. He is not the first person to alter the surplus jeeps left
behind by the United States Army from World War II,[2] but he saw them as a business opportunity
for mass transportation. He redesigned the surplus jeeps to increase its functionality by extending the
body to accommodate at least twice the number of passengers and by putting some railings at the
back and top for extra passengers to cling to, and for cargoes.[3] He revolutionized a burgeoning
industry and changed the life of generations of Filipinos.[1]

Leonardo Sarao was awarded The Outstanding Filipino Award (TOFIL) in 1991 for Entrepreneurship.
He started Sarao Motors from a borrowed PHP700. Though he only attained Grade 6 level of
education because of poverty, he was able to make the company grow into a
multimillion peso conglomerate. [4]

Roberto Legaspi del Rosario (June 7, 1919 – July 30, 2003) was a Filipino entrepreneur; best known as the
patentholder of the Sing-Along System, a type of karaoke appliance he developed in 1975. From his
entrepreneurial initiative to patent a karaoke system first, he frequently, albeit arguably, became referred to as
"the inventor of Karaoke".

RUDY LANTANO Hybrid oil

The Philippines felt the oil crisis in the early 70s. This prompted Filipino inventors Rudy
Lantano (water and fuel mixture), Daniel Dingel (water powered engine) and Pablito
Planas (Khaos Turbocharged engine) to produce innovative means to somewhat deviate
the sky rocketing fuel prices.
Mr. Rudy Lantano, is the inventor of Alco-diesel, Lan-gas and Superbunker Formula L
(SBFL). His three oil product hybrids were on its developmental stage during the 70s.
Sadly, when the oil prices stabilized and alleged conspiracy between oil producing
nations and government leaders of developing nations, oil hybrids lost its steam. The
inventions of the three were shelved and were overlooked by numerous Philippine
administrations.

Doña Ruperta “Aling Tentay” David, known for her significant contribution to Filipino
cuisine through the invention of patis (fish sauce), was born on March 22, 1912. She
hailed from Navotas, a coastal city in the Philippines known for its fishing industry

Professional Background:
Fishing Industry: Ruperta David’s family was deeply involved in the fishing business,
which laid the foundation for her future endeavors.
Inventor of Patis: In 1949, she accidentally discovered patis while trying to preserve fish.
This discovery led to the creation of one of the most popular fish sauce brands in the
Philippines, known as "Tentay"1.
Her innovative approach to preserving fish and turning it into a flavorful condiment has left
a lasting legacy in Filipino cuisine.
Superkalan Inventor Patents
A Filipino inventor, from Bangar, La Union, is now considered as most awarded for the
countless commendations he has received for his inventions.

Narciso Mosuela, 76, has received citations from different categories such as for
excellence, entrepreneurship and invention. Filipino Inventor Society Inc.’s national
award in 1984, top seller in the Ramot ti Aminanan (Root from the North) Exposition in
2003, the Department of Trade and Industry’s Outstanding MSME (micro, small and
medium enterprise) in 2008, and Globe’s top Masigasig Award in 2008 are only some of
the awards he has received for his many years of innovating things that could help his
people.

But from the many awards he has, he is best known for his invention, superkalan.
Superkalan is a stove made of concrete and flattened aluminum using wood instead of
petroleum. It has been a fixture in many Filipino homes during the past 20 years.

LAWRENCE LUELLEN – Disposable Paper Cups

Francisco Quisumbing is said to be a Filipino botanist claimed to be the inventor of Quink ink[1][2] used by The
Parker Pen Company. He studied in the Philippines and the US, gaining a BSc from the University of the
Philippines School of Agriculture,[disputed – discuss] Los Baños in 1918 and an MSc in 1921. He travelled to the US
and gained a PhD in Plant Taxonomy, Systematics and Morphology from the University of Chicago in 1923,
under the American pensionado program. [citation needed] He went back to the Philippines after World War II but was
unable to organize the Philippine Ink Corporation under the Japanese Reparations Program because of too
much government intervention.[3] Quink, which was sold in the US from 1931, is claimed to stand for
'Quisumbing Ink', but there is no reliable evidence to support this. Parker state instead that the name is an
amalgam of "quick and ink".[4] However Parker did license the manufacture of Quink in the Philippines, for that
market, and the bottles were labelled as such.[5] This, together with the name coincidence, may have been the
source of the rumour.
