ITEM 3

Idhobe a new student at your school is confused about the structure of an atom and the
arrangement of the elements in the periodic table, ion formation and identification of
metals and nonmetals.

Task:

If you are approached by Idhobe about that problem, make a write up of how you can
make him understand the confusing ideas.

ITEM 4

Mukasa is supposed to present a speech to the community about carbon in the


environment; he is supposed to talk about the existence of carbon, fuels and allotropes
of carbon. However, he lacks enough knowledge about the subject.

Task:

Help and write a speech for Mukasa that he should present to the community.

PART II

Answer one item from this section.(each item has 20 scores)

ITEM 5

People in Naminya town are facing a problem of clean water shortage. This is
because they lack enough boreholes; they fetch water from the nearby swamp. This
water has suspended soil particles and a bad smell. This water can hardly be used for
drinking and it leaves dirty marks when used for washing clothes.

Task:

If you are invited by the mayor of the town to talk to his people how this water can be
used for the different purposes as stated above, write a speech you would deliver

ITEM 6

In a certain industry, it was found out that the water used is acidic because it’s always
contaminated by the hydrogen chloride gas that dissolves in it. It was also found out
that concentration of the water does not change. The industry is interested in
neutralizing the water using sodium carbonate because it’s readily available. During
an analysis, a chemical expert told the manager that what they have as water is
0.000004M hydrochloric acid.

Task:

If you are provided with 30 cm3 of 0.004M sodium carbonate, write a document you
would present to the manager explaining how you could obtain neutral, pure water.
