SOP FOR HOUSE KEEPING DEPARTMENT

GOALS OF THE DEPARTMENT : -

To maintain cleanliness and aesthetic upkeep of the hospital and to


maintain an infection controlled environment in the hospital.

SCOPE & COMPLEXITY OF SERVICES PROVIDED : -

House keeping is responsible for the cleanliness of the entre hospital


and incharge of the following area

● Control room – preparing discharged bed & room


● Cleaning
● Bed making
● Linen & laundry
● Lift operation
● In – house patient mobilization
● Maintenance of pest free environment
● Bio medical waste management
● Gardening
● Barbers

● Ride on scrubber – 1 No

Work instructions for wall washing

Arrange all the materials required on the trolley.

● Put on rubber gloves.


● Move to the assigned wall.
● Completely cover any electrical outlets using masking tape.
● Remove spots from the wall using nylon brush.
● Wash the wall by sponge mop dipped in disinfectant solution.
● Leave the surface dry as possible before moving to next area.
● Remove gloves and wash hands.
Work instructions for room cleaning

Arrange all the materials required on the trolley as per the following :-

● 2 plastic buckets 1 for fresh rapido micro fibres soaked n disinfectant solution and other for
foul micro fibres.
● Smart mops.
● Duster clothes.
● Dust bin covers.
● 3 no of bottles containing cleaning agent ,disinfectant ,liquid hand wash.
● Spray gun with disinfectant solution.
● Tissue box,tissue roll,soap,odonil,taski R3,room spray.
● Door mat
● Dustpan ,kettle brush ,nylon brush.
● Put on gloves only for one hand {left hand}
● Move to the concerned room.
● Knock the door before entering the room by announcing “House keeping” ,and wait
until the patient calls for
● Wish the patient and tell the purpose of coming
● Switch off fan and A/C.
● Remove all the movable things and place it outside the room.{food trolley,foot
stool,cot key,dustbins,doormat,chair}
● Remove the floor debris from corner to corner using smart mop
● Collect the dust and debris in the dustpan
● Spray dusts all the items in the following procedure.
● Spray can is filled with disinfectant solution
● Spray the required amount of disinfectant on the concerned area
● Damp wipe the surfaces in a systematic manner.
● All the corners are dusted without fail

● Following duster cloths are used:


● Blue color duster cloth for wall clock,head board,cupboard,guest
cot/couch,pt cot,chair,cot key.
● Orange color glass cloths for TV stand ,TV picture ,wash basin mirror,window
glass.
● Yellow color duster cloth for toilet,toilet fttings.
● Brown color duster cloth for drinking glass,water jug,flask,fridge.
● Green color duster cloth ,nurse’s station,corridor.
● Red color duster cloth for critical care area.
● Swabbing cloth for WC
● Blue color duster cloth for pt area ,wards.
● Hard stains on floor and wall are removed using nylon brush and cleaning agent.
● Mop the floor with disinfectant solution
● All the movable items are cleaned with disinfectant and replaced with fresh dustbin
covers and placed in its position
● Switch on fan and A/C
● Room spray is done on request of patients.
● Have a last look at the room referring to the checklist for completion of work
● Thank the patient before leaving the room.

Work instructions for public toilet cleaning

Basic principles:-

● Cleaning activity starts from the top to button of the room.


● Floors are cleaned from the wall farthest to the door to the exist.

Toilet is cleaning as per the following principles:

● Arrange all the materials required on the trolley.


● Place the cleaning in progress board on the floor
● Remove all the door mats and keep it aside
● Collect the trash in dustpan.
● Check all light fittings for working condition
● Clean the toilet fittings like - taps,knobs,flush,handle water facet with disinfectant and
yellow duster cloth and check for their working condition.
● Toilet tiles are washed using cleaning agent from top to bottom and wiped with yellow
duster cloth
● Scrub the wash basin with cleaning agent and dry the area using yellow color duster cloth.
● Wash basin mirror is cleaning with taski R3 and orange duster cloth.
● Scrub the toilet closet using toilet brush and cleaning agent.the inner rim should be
cleaned.ensure it is dry and spotless inside.clean the wc from the outside with swapping
cloth till it is dry and sparkling.clean the lid and toilet seat of the toilet closet dry and close
them.
● Scrub the floor and skirting with scrubbing brush using cleaning agent.
● Mop the floor with the disinfectant.the mop should be always in contact with floor mop
beneath and behind WC.
● Place the required toiletries .
● Have a last look at the toilet referring to the checklist.

Work instructions for critical area cleaning

● Put on appropriate PPE.


● Arrange all the materials required for the task on the trolley.
● Move to the assigned area
● Remove all the foul linen and discard in the foul linen bin.If any stained linen is found it has
to be taken to the washing room in water-soluble bags for washing.
● All the dust bins are emptied and cleaned with disinfectant solution and replaced with fresh
covers
● Floor debris is collected using smart mop and dustpan
● Use disinfectant and dust the cot,cupboards,A/C grills,food trolleys,walls,fan,doors,lights,IV
stands with the disinfectant solution.
● Then the whole area is mopped with the disinfectant solution using microfiber mop refill
● Place back the dustbins in the respective areas
● Bed making is done as per the procedure
● Remove the gloves and wash hands.

Work instructions for bio medical waste collection

● Put on appropriate mask,cap,apron,and gloves.


● Use the respective color coded bins to collect waste
● Move to the concerned area to be collected.remove the respective dust bin covers.tie the
top of all bin covers securely with plastic tags/rubber bands and mark the respective area
on the dustbins with marker pen.
● Place all secured tied dustbin covers in the respective colour coded rooms.
● Clean all surface of dustbins with disinfectant solution.
● 3filled sharp container are replaced with new containers at various locations.
● Needle cutter boxes are removed when they are ¾filled and replaced with new ones.
● Needle cutter equipment’s are replaced with new ones on completion of cutting
● Infectious waste is transported to the common garbage area in closed trolleys
● Transfer the tied waste bags into the drums of different compartments
● All the collected waste bags,sharp container and needle cutter boxes as stored in the
designated area are transported and treated by the medicare environment system
● Check list maintain by the housekeeping staff and it checked by supervisor
● The clearance is done as per the zones
● At the end of every clearance the 4 respective rooms are cleaned in the following procedure:
● Put on rubber shoes,safety mask,rubber gloves and apron
● Arrange the required cleaning material for the task
● Remove all the waste drums from the compartments
● Clean the floor from corner to corner towards the door
● Collect the waste in dustbins
● Wash the ceiling walls and floor with cleaning agent and then with disinfectant
solution
● Wash all the bins with disinfectant solution and replace the bins to the respective
compartments
● Wash all the trolleys with disinfectant solution and place the respective drums after
cleaning

FOUL LINEN WASHING PROCEDURE


All linen soiled with blood or body fluids and linen used in isolated patient
rooms are considered as foul linen.

DIRTY LINEN
1. Collected from wards in blue bin and carried to the linen room
2. All dirty linen are carried through ramp
3. Dirty linen are stored in the linen room and outsourced for washing
and pressing
FOUL LINEN

1. Foul linen is packed in water soluble bag and carried in yellow


color bin to the laundry room.
2. All foul linen is carried through ramp.
3. Pre wash/sluice cycle is done in the machine to remove the
visible impurities.
4. Sluice cycle is followed by the thermal cycle for 20 mins at 60 c
5. After thermal cycle,linens are outsourced to laundry.
