 Checking of Attendance

Who is absent today? No one is absent for today.

B. Elicit

Before we proceed to our next lesson this morning,

let’s have first a review by answering the following.

Activity 1: Bet of Throws (BOT)

“Determine whether each of the given data is

qualitative or quantitative.”
Qualitative – gender, eye color and taste

Quantitative – age, weight and time

None ma’am.

Very good! Do have any questions?

C. Engage Yes ma’am.

Activity 2: Targeting Others Preferences (TOP) (Learners will go to their respective groups)
Are you familiar with the game Family Feud? (Learners will stand together will their group mates)
Learners will be divided into groups.

Groups will be given a 1 minute to answer the

question.
(Answers may vary)
The group who will give more correct answers with
a shortest time will be the winner. (Answers may vary)
What do you notice about our activity? Ma’am, I think our lesson for today is about how to
or gather data.
How do you think we obtain those answers?

Based on our activity, what do you think is our

lesson for today?

D. Explore

Data  are facts or information under study. (Learners will read the meaning of primary sources o
Sources of Data

 Primary Sources  data that come from (Learners will read the meaning of secondary sou
people or organization who have firsthand data)
information about a certain event, situation
or topic.
 Secondary Sources  these are second-
hand information that are obtained from
books, journals, magazines, articles,
researches, etc.

Data gathering is the process of collecting

information for a purpose. It is important since
analysis will be based on the data collected.
Therefore, it must be done as accurately as
possible.

Data may be gathered by using the following

methods.

Methods Used in the Data Gathering

1. Survey Method – can be applied if one is soliciting
information from another person through interview
or by using questionnaire. (Learners will read)
 Interview Method  In this method, the
researcher (interviewer) asks question to
the subject (interviewee) to gather data. It
can be done by any of the following means:
face-to-face, via phone call, or video call.

Examples:

Face-to-face interview.

Video call
interview

(Learners will read)

Phone call interview.

 Questionnaire Method  the researcher

prepares a written questionnaire to be
distributed to the respondents either by
personal delivery, postal or online.

(Learners will read)

2. Registration Method – this method is governed by

laws. Registers and licenses are particularly
valuable for complete enumeration. This method is
reliable but the data are limited to what are listed in
the document.

Example: The number of births registered in PSA.

(Learners will read)

3. Observation Method – can be used if the data
gathered is through direct observation of a person
known as investigator of the one being observed
called the subject.

(Learners will read)

 Experimental Method  is usually used if
the researcher attempts to understand
cause and effect relationships.

Look at the following examples for further understanding.

E. Explain

Illustrative Examples

Example 1: Mr. Kasipagan wants to determine the ages of

the 27 students in her Grade 7 class. This is to check if they
are all regular students. Hhe collects the data in the
following manner:

1. Check the date of birth in the class registry.

Ma’am the answer is Registration Method.
What is the method used in this example?

2. Make a form that includes student’s birth date and

let them fill out the form and submit it back to her.
Ma’am the answer is Survey Method
What is the method used in this example?

Example 2: Jessa wanted to find whether a die was fair or

biased. She tossed the die 40 times and recorded the
results.

Ma’am the answer is Observation Method

What is the method used in this example?

Example 3: A school canteen manager wants the students

and teachers to answer the following questionnaire whether
costumers are satisfied with their services.

A school canteen manager conducted a survey thr

questionnaire.
What type of data gathering method does the canteen
manager used?

Example 4: A Mathematics teacher would like to determine

the effect of using computer aided instruction (CAI) in
teaching mathematics. The teacher will use CAI in one
section and the usual way of teaching mathematics in the
other section.

The teacher used experimental method.

What type of data gathering method does the teacher

used?

F. Elaborate

Now let us test your knowledge if you really

understood the lesson.

Go to your respective group mates. You will be

given a scenario and you’re going to identify which
type of data gathering is most appropriate to used
and explain why.

Activity 3: Test of Skills

Identify the method used in gathering data as to

Interview, Questionnaire, Observation, The answer is Observation
Registration or Experiment.

1. Temperature in Cabanatuan City.

The answer is Questionnaire Method.

2. Sending a customer satisfaction survey after

someone eats at your restaurant to determine if
you staff is offering excellent customer service.

The answer is Experiment.

3. Using two different media (air and water) in

glass bottles show how the speed of vibrations
affects pitch.

The answer is Registration.

4. Mr. Kasipagan check the date of birth of each

student in the class registry.

The answer is Interview Method.

1. Boy Abunda talking to Alden Richards.

None ma’am.
2.

Do you have any questions?

Let us proceed to our quiz for today.

Bring out your notebook and answer the following.

IV. Evaluate (John Dewey’s Progressivism/Identification-type of test using Events/Situations/Verbal-li

Intelligence)

Direction: Identify the method used in gathering data. Write I for interview, Q for questionnaire, O for observatio
registration and E for Experiment.

______________ 1. The teachers of Nueva Ecija High School used the Learning Enrollment Survey Form
during the Early Registration Program.
______________ 2. The Barangay Health Worker (BHW) conduct a house-to-house campaign to identify the a
families during Typhoon Amang. They ask the name of the head of the family for possible assistance fr
government.
______________ 3. A study took random sample of adults and asked them about their bedtime habits. Th
showed that people who drank a cup of tea before bedtime were more likely to go to sleep earlier than tho
didn’t drink tea.
______________ 4. Another study took a group of adults and randomly divided them into two groups. One gro
told to drink tea every night for a week, while the other group was told not to drink tea that week. Research
compare when each group fell asleep.
______________ 5. Ms. Mathalino ask the school registrar the Form 137 of her Grade 7 students to de
where her students live.
V. Extend (John Dewey’s Learning by doing) (Follow DepED Memorandum No, 392, s. 2010)

Instruction: Collect data from 30 students in your school to find out the allowance they received each day fro
parents.

a. What method did you use in gathering the data?
