our previous topic?
Raise the virtual hand if you want to answer. Students raise the virtual hand
Student 1: our previous topic was all about
Statistics.
Who can give us a short summary of our discussion
about Statistics? Student 1: Statistics refers to the techniques by
which data are
• collected
• presented
Okay. Very good. Another?
• organized
• analyzed
What else?
• interpreted
Excellent!
Student 2: Ma’am there are two types of
Last meeting, we talked about Statistics, two types of
Statistics, descriptive and Inferential
Statistics, Importance of Statistics and Statistical
Instruments.
We also discussed the Importance of Statistics in
the field of science, medicine and many more.

MOTIVATION
There are three words in the box. You need to find
those words. Once you found the three words, you
can comment it in the comment box. The first three
students who find and comment the exact words will

Yes, Mr./Ms. Student 1: we fill out the form Sir
That’s right.
Based in our activity, what do you think is our lesson
for today? Students raise the virtual hand.
Yes, Mr./Ms. Student 2: gathering data Sir

You have the idea.

lOMoARcPSD|29325817

Who else? Student 3: gathering statistical data Sir

Excellent.
Our topic for this afternoon is all about Gathering
Statistical Data

Class, are you familiar with these words? Student 4: yes Sir

Good, so who can define data?

Yes, Mr./Ms. Student 5: Data is a collection of facts such as
numbers, words, measurements, observations
Very good. or anything that suggest information.

DATA is a collection of facts such as

• Numbers

• Words

• measurements

• Observations

• anything that suggest information

The information you fill out in the activity is an

example of data.
Types of Data
o QUALITATATIVE DATA
o QUANTITATIVE DATA
Who can differentiate
QUALITATIVE DATA and
QUANTITATIVE DATA?

Yes, Mr./Ms.

Fantastic idea,
Mr./Ms.
Qualitative data are data
which are non-
numerical quantities while
quantitative data referred
to as numeric data.
lOMoARcPSD|29325817

Examples of Qualitative Data are :

GENDER, ETHNICITY, DATE OF BIRTH, COLOR, RACE

Students raise the virtual hand

Student 1: Qualitative data. These are data

which are non-numerical quantities or
attributes.
Quantitative data referred to as numeric data.

Examples of Quantitative Data are :

HEIGHT, AVERAGE FREE THROW PER GAME, SIZE OF
SHOES, GRADE IN
MATH
Did you understand the differences of qualitative and
quantitative?
Student 2: yes Sir
Very good students.
There are two types of quantitative data:
 continuous
 discrete
Who can give their idea about continuous data and
discrete data?

Yes, Mr./Ms.
lOMoARcPSD|29325817

Good job, a heart for you Mr./Ms.

(press the heart emoji)
So, Discrete data is quantitative data that can only
take on certain numerical values. These values are
fixed and cannot be broken down. When you count
something, you get discrete data.
Continuous data, on the other hand, can be infinitely
broken down into smaller parts. This type of
quantitative data can be placed on a measurement
scale; for example, the length of a piece of string in
centimeters, or the temperature in degrees Celsius.

Examples of Continuous Data are :

WEIGHT, RATING, SPEED, TEMPERATURE, ANGLE
MEASURE
Examples of Discrete Data are :
NO. OF CHILDREN IN THE FAMILY, PLATE NUMBER,
NO. OF PLAYERS
IN A TEAM
Did you understand its differences class?

What is data gathering?

Yes, Mr./Ms.

Excellent!
A virtual clap for you
Students raise the virtual hand
Data Gathering/ collection is the process of gathering
and measuring information on variables of interest, in
an established systematic fashion that enables one to
answer stated research questions, test hypotheses, Student 3: Continuous data. These are data
and evaluate outcomes. which may take on any value in a given interval
and it gives rise to measurement.
Discrete data. These data take on any discrete

 Questionnaire rise to counting.
 Registration
 Observation
 Interview
 Experimentation
 Focus Group Discussion.

1. Questionnaire. This is done by sending out the

written questions to the persons from whom you
would like to get the needed data.
2. Registration. This utilizes existing records of file.
3. Observation. This is done directly or indirectly.
4. Interview. This is a personal communication with
the person from whom you would like to give you

about the needed information.

5. Experimentation. This is done by making or
conducting scientific inquiry.
6. Focus Group Discussion. A focus group discussion
involves gathering people from similar backgrounds or
experiences together to discuss a specific topic of
interest. It is a form of qualitative research where
questions are asked about their perceptions,
attitudes, beliefs, opinions or ideas.
Yes ma’am

Did you understand class? Students raise the virtual hand

Amazing class. Student 1: Data gathering simply means

collecting data needed of a certain study.
Do you have any clarifications before we will do
another activity?

Okay. Very good
