to achieve Early Recovery for Patients undergoing Major
Surgery

➢ Focuses on : Pre- , Intra- & Post-Operative Care
[A] Pre-Operative Care:

1)Patient's Education & Councelling


2)Pre-operative Carbohydrate loading;
Solid food fasting= 6 hrs before surgery
Liquid food fasting= 2hrs before surgery
3)Prehabilitation ;
Physical,Nutritional & Psychological status
[B] Intra-Operative Care
1)Minimally Invasive techniques when possible
2)Goal – Directed fluid Therapy
3)Anaesthesia : Propofol reduces Risk of Post- operative
Nausea & Vomiting
4)Normothermia Maintainance [>/= 36 degree Celsius]
[C] Post-Operative Care

1)Early Mobilization reduces adverse physiological effects of


Prolonged bed Rest
2)Early Feeding -reduces infectious complications
-Enhances Recovery
3)Pain Management Avoid Opioids & Apply Multimodal
analgesia[Paracetamol, NSAIDS] with
Epidural / Spinal analgesia when
indicated.

A 65 years old undergoing Colorectal Surgery follows an
