A New Topology of Cascaded Multilevel Converters With Reduced Number of Components for High-Voltage Applications AbstractIn this paper, a new topology of a cascaded multilevel converter is proposed. The
proposed topology is based on a cascaded connection of single-phase submultilevel converter units and full-bridge converters. Compared to the conventional multilevel converter, the number of dc voltage sources, switches, installation area, and converter cost is significantly reduced as the number of voltage steps increases. In order to calculate the magnitudes of the required dc voltage sources, three methods are proposed. Then, the structure of the proposed topology is optimized in order to utilize a minimum number of switches and dc voltage sources, and produce a high number of output voltage steps. The operation and performance of the proposed multilevel converter is verified by simulation results and compared with experimental results of a singlephase 49-level converter, too. Index TermsFull-bridge topology and high-voltage application, multilevel converter, power conversion, submultileve converter.
41.A Static Improvement of Predictive Control for Single Phase Voltage Fed Power Factor Correction Converters Abstract - Harmonic contamination and low power factor in power systems caused by power
converters have been a great concern. The effect of harmonics in current due to lagging power factor are the increase in current flow in the capacitors which results in additional heating of the capacitors and reduce its life, increased magnitudes of neutral currents in three phase systems, over-heating in transformers and induction motors. To overcome these problems several converter topologies and control schemes have been proposed in recent years. This work is proposed to identify the power converters with low cost/small size/high efficiency for single phase systems and also to study the control techniques for such converters to improve the Power Factor (PF) and reduce total harmonic distortion (THD) in the input current with output voltage regulation. This work has very high potential for UPS, motor drives and other industrial applications. A predictive control strategy for power factor correction of AC - DC converter is to maintain the unity power factor. Its basic idea is that all of the duty cycles required to achieve unity power factor in a half line period are generated in advance by using a predictive control topologies. It can be based on the average output voltage in the previous half line period, the duty cycles in the current half line period can be calculated by the predictive control topologies. The operation, analysis and design of control technique for high performance rectifier are investigated and verified through simulation.
Abstract Because of the low maintenance and robustness induction motors have many applications in the industries. Most of these applications need fast and smart speed control system. This paper introduces a smart speed control system for induction motor using fuzzy logic controller. Induction motor is modeled in synchronous reference frame in terms of dq form. The speed control of induction motor is the main issue achieves maximum torque and efficiency. Two speed control techniques, Scalar Control and Indirect Field Oriented Control are used to compare the performance of the control system with fuzzy logic controller. Indirect field oriented control technique with fuzzy logic controller provides better speed control of induction motor especially with high dynamic disturbances. The model is carried out using Matlab/Simulink computer package. The simulation results show the superiority of the fuzzy logic controller in controlling three-phase induction motor with indirect field oriented control technique. 71. Direct Torque Control System for a Three Phase Induction Motor With Fuzzy Logic Based Speed Controller
Abstract-This paper presents a method for improving the speed profile of a three phase induction motor in direct torque control (DTC) drive system using a proposed fuzzy logic based speed controller. A complete simulation of the conventional DTC and closed-loop for speed control of three phase induction motor was tested using well known Matlab/Simulink software package. The speed control of the induction motor is done by using the conventional proportional integral (PI) controller and the proposed fuzzy logic based controller. The proposed fuzzy logic controller has a nature of (PI) to determine the torque reference for the motor. The dynamic response has been clearly tested for both conventional and the proposed fuzzy logic based speed controllers. The simulation results showed a better dynamic performance of the induction motor when using the proposed fuzzy logic based speed controller compared with the conventional type with a fixed (PI) controller.
