The Hymn of the Table
It refers to the geographical position of La Mesa in the eastern mountain range, at 1200 meters. average
above sea level. The motto “friendly and cordial”, coined by a mayor, has identified the municipality for
many years. The last part of the stanza refers to the legend of the fog that suddenly appears when the ghost
Juan Díaz leaves the Pedro Palo lagoon and comes to the market in the square.

Tequendama. In addition, the heroism of its warriors and martyrs and the beginning of the Botanical
expedition in its territory-

The conquest, the child martyr shot in La Mesa during the Spanish reconquest in 1816 and the visit of José
Celestino Mutis and his collaborators to La Mesa for two months, to begin the great work of the Botanical
Expedition in 1783.

This stanza inspired the hymn of La Mesa. Summer sunsets with the sun setting over the valley of the
snow-capped mountains in the central mountain range are a majestic spectacle of colors, temperature
changes and smells brought by the breeze after sunset. Also, if it is a full moon, the sunset at one end
coincides with the moonrise at the other at 6:00 PM. That's just magical.
It exalts the beauty of the Mesuna woman, the importance of her leaders for the development and
projection of La Mesa and the faith in the promising future of our people and our region.
