Motivation:
So before we start with our
next topic, let us have a
warm up activity. The first to
answer each riddle will
receive a prize from me. You
have 10 seconds to answer 1. coin
the riddle. 2. die or dice

Riddle
1. I have a tail and a head but
no body. What am I? 3. 0%

clear. What is the probability
that it will be sunny after 24
hours?

Congratulations for the

winners you can claim your
prize after our class.

Good Job Everyone!

So before we proceed to our

main discussion, Let us have
first a short activity.
Activity

State whether the result of
the first events affects the
result of the second event.

Abstraction
Now, let’s proceed to our next
lesson on Probability of
Independent and Dependent
Events.

What are independent and

dependent events in relation
to probability?

Independent Event
Two are said to be
independent if the first event
does not affect the probability
of the second events,.
 if two events A and B
are independent
events, then the
probability of both
events occurring is the
product of probability
of A and probability of
B. In symbols we write
it this way,

P ( And B ) = P (A) ● P
(B)
P ( A then B ) = P (A) ●
P (B)
P ( A ⋂ B ) = P (A) ● P
(B) ( All these
formula are the same )

 Two events are

independent if the
occurrence of one of
the events gives us no
information about
whether or not the
event will happen or
occur. In other words,
each event is not
affected by other
events.

In our discussion in mutually

exclusive event we are using
the conjunction “or” wherein .
it denotes addition while in
here we use “ and” to
indicate that the operation
use Is multiplication ( P (A).
P(B)

So let us have here an

example problem.
1. Toss a coin using your left
hand and roll a die using your
right hand. What is the
chance that the head shows
up head and die shows up a 4
during the next toss and roll?

each problem are
independent or dependent,
then find the probability of
the occurrence of the events.

2. From a standard deck of 52

cards, two cards are drawn at

drawn is returned in the deck
of cards before picking the
second card, what is the
probability of drawing a
numbered card and then a
face card?
