Specific-Learning Outcomes: By the end of the online class, students will be able to:

Become aware of why and how cultural relativism mitigates ethnocentrism (U)
Demonstrate a holistic understanding of culture and society by writing a short
story about their names as part of their multicultural experience (D)
2. Instruction / Delivery
Discuss the following topics:
Definition and characteristics Culture and Society.
Definition of Culture and Society from the perspective of anthropology and
sociology.
Aspects of Culture and Society
Ethnocentrism and Cultural Relativism
3. Practice: “What’s in the Name”
This activity will bring out personal stories of the students thus emphasizing the point
that individuals play a large part in participating in a multicultural experience.
Students will be allowed to share personal insights and reflections. They will also be
asked to listen to the stories shared by others allowing them to be appreciative of the
experiences of other people. This activity requires 30 to 60 minutes depending on the
number of students.
Instruction:
a. Ask the students to write a brief short story about their names.
b. Encourage the students to be creative in sharing their stories. They may use
poems, songs, word description, drawings, and even humor. It is also
important to let them know they have to write a story that they can share in
class.
c. To ensure that all students have the opportunity to share their stories, break
the class into smaller groups. Give the students option to read their stories or
to share from memory. Ask for volunteers to share the story to the entire
class.
4. Enrichment: Make research about the Filipino Values and answer the following questions:
1. Enumerate the Filipino Values that you know.
2. Which of these values can you still see today? Give supporting details for
your answer.
