This lesson plan for Grade 7 Mathematics focuses on introducing students to the importance of statistics, including differentiating between descriptive and inferential statistics. Students will engage in activities such as a family survey and group discussions to evaluate and analyze data, culminating in a collaborative project using online polling tools. The lesson emphasizes critical thinking and the application of statistical knowledge in real-life contexts.

LESSON PLAN IN GRADE 7 MATHEMATICS

QUARTER 4
January 17, 2022

Learning Competency: Explain the importance of statistics.

Code: M7SP-IVa-1
21ST Century Skill: Collaboration, Communication, and Critical Thinking

I. OBECTIVES
Upon completion of this lesson, the students are expected to:
 evaluate statistics;
 differentiate descriptive statistics and inferential statistics; and
 Identify the uses and importance of statistics.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

 Topic: Introduction to Statistics
 Materials: ICT media (laptop brought by the teacher, android phone, and television), board, chalk,
online application Xoyondo and T-Cast
 Reference: Department of Education Mathematics 7 Module

III. PROCEDURE
a) Preliminary Activities (5 minutes)
i. Classroom Management
ii. Prayer
iii. Checking of Attendance
b) Preparatory Activities (5 minutes)

TEACHER ACTIVITY STUDENTS ACTIVITY

A. Review (Communication) – 5 minutes
How are you students? Were fine teacher.
Good, today is the start of our 4th Quarter and we are going
to discuss throughout this quarter are the topics about
statistics and probability.

Before we start our discussion, I’ve prepared a song that is

connected to our lesson in order to start the first day of the
last quarter productive, energize and enjoyable one. It is
entitled Data, Data which is sang in the tune of twinkle,
twinkle little star but with a twist.

While singing, students will pass the candies and they will
pick one of their favorite until the last student will pick the
last candy.
NOTE: There are 25 students and there are 5 kinds of
candies.

Data, data. What are you? Students are singing.

We COLLECT you, oh its true.
ANALYZE you that’s my plan
INTERPRET to understand
Data, data what are you?
I’ll PRESENT you right on cue.

Teacher will announce to the class that the candies will

served as their groupings. There are five groups based on
the kind of candies and each group will have 5 members.
This grouping will be saved for later activity.
B. Lesson Proper
Activity (Collaboration) – 10 minutes
Quick Survey

Family Survey:
Family Survey
Name:
Do you…

_______ Live with your parents?

_______ Living with extended family
_______ Parents Separated

Please bring out your survey forms.

Now, we will tally your answers on the board

Choices Tally
Living with parents 15
Living with extended family 8 (The tallies will vary)
Parents are separated 2

Analysis (Creativity) - 5 minutes

1. What does this survey for?
2. How did you understand the data? (Students will answer the question based on their
3. What is the importance of statistics in interpreting experience and ideas on the activity given to them.)
the data?

Abstraction (Critical Thinking) – 10 minutes

(Projected using t-cast app screen casting from android
phone to the television)

In your own understanding class and based also on our Student will raise their hands and wait until the teacher
activity earlier, what is statistics? Anyone? called his/her attention to answer.
(Student will answer based on his/her understanding.)

What is Statistics?
- Statistics refers to the techniques by which data
are collected, presented, organized, analyzed and
interpreted.
- Statistics is an indispensable tool in
understanding the rise and fall of an organization;
the win or lose of a competing team; the success
or failure of a program; etc.

(Teacher’s explanation)
Like in the recent survey we did in the activity part which is
the family survey, we collected data with the students
answering the question, we organized the data when we
tallied the students answers and we analyzed and
interpreted the data when we used it to find out why some
students are performing well or not.

Can you read class, what are the two classification of The classification of statistics is Descriptive and
statistics? Inferential Statistics teacher.

Classification of Statistics

1. Descriptive Statistics
- Deals with the presentation and collection of data.
This is usually the first part of a statistical
analysis.

2. Inferential Statistics
- Involves drawing the right conclusions from the
statistical analysis that has been performed using
the descriptive statistics.

In statistics we always talk about data.

From the song Data, data in the tune of twinkle, twinkle Collect, Analyze, Interpret, and Present.
little star, what do we do to data?

(Projected using t-cast app screen casting from android

phone to the television)
Data
- Data is the numerical values that the variable
assume.

(Teacher’s explanation)
Data is used to describe information mathematically. An
example of that is the Family survey that we have done in
our activity; we have variables such as living with parents,
living with extended family, and separated parents. But
those variables have no numerical value. The data there is
our tally, the number of students that are under these
choices.

Statistics stresses in the analysis and interpretation of

data. The analysis and interpretation of the data may help
many people in their decision makings.
To sum it up, we will need to know what the importance
and purposes of statistics are for everyone.

FUNCTION OR USES OF STATISTICS

1. Statistics helps in improving a better

understanding and exact description of a
phenomenon of nature.
2. Statistics helps in proper and efficient planning
of a statistical inquiry in any field of study.
3. Statistics helps in collecting an appropriate
quantitative data.
4. Statistics helps in presenting complex data in a
suitable tabular, diagrammatic and graphic
form for an easy and clear comprehension of
the data.
5. Statistics helps in drawing valid inferences,
along with a measure of their reliability about
the population parameters from the sample
data

The field of statistics is the science of learning from data.

Statistical knowledge helps us use the proper methods to
collect data, employ the correct analyses, and effectively
present the results. Statistics is a crucial process behind
how we make discoveries in science, make decisions
based on the data and make predictions. Statistics allows
us to understand a subject much more deeply.

Application (Critical Thinking/Problem Solving) – 15 minutes

The groups created at the beginning of the class will be

used in this activity. There are 5 groups in the class.
(Student will follow the step-by-step process given by the
teacher.)

(The teacher
search
Xoyondo.com
and then click
create an
anonymous poll)

(It will appear; teacher

will click the word
create)

(Teacher will fill it up

the poll question and
answer scroll it down)

(It was on the bottom

part of the previous one,
teacher will fill her name
and email address. After
filling it all teacher will
click the word next)
(After clicking the
next, it will appear.
These are the link to
the poll the teacher
created. The red one
is the link for student
to access and vote
on the prepared poll
by the teacher and
the other link is for
the teacher in order
to manage the poll.)

(For student to
access the poll, they
will just copy and
paste the upper link
colored in red.)

(The poll will appear

on the screen of the
gadget of the student
being used, the
leader of the group
will vote first after
which the other
members will follow
but they need to
change the google
account in order for
their vote to be valid
and counted)

(This will appear after

the student voted and
the teacher will also
monitor and know if
all the student
responded or voted to
the poll if the total
vote will match to the
total number of
students which is 25)

After gathering all the data student will proceed to the next
task which is to analyze/understand and then interpret the
result.

Rubrics for the Presentation of output every group.

Cooperation 5 points
Presentation 5 points
Content 10 points
TOTAL 20 POINTS

The first presenter will be the Group 1 followed by Group

2,3,4 and the last to present is the Group 5.
Assessment (Critical Thinking/Problem Solving) – 5 minutes
Based on what you understand, answer the question below
in 3 sentences.

1. How can statistics help us? (Student will answer based on what they understand and
2. What are the values of statistics in our life? Give by their own idea.)
at least 2.
Assignment (Critical Thinking)
No more written assignments but please study more and
advanced study the next lesson that we are going to
tackled next meeting. It is all about problems that can be
solved using statistics.
