Spelling Contest Mechanics

1. Participants and Team Composition:


 The contest will consist of 6 teams, with each team
representing one participant per grade level (Grades 7-12)
BFS Students.
2. Rounds:
 The contest will be divided into three rounds:
 Easy Round: Basic-level words chosen from the Daily Word
Bank.
 Average Round: Intermediate-level words from the Daily Word
Bank.
 Difficult Round: Advanced-level words from the Daily Word
Bank.
3. Word Source:
 All words used in the contest will come from the Daily Word
Bank, allowing participants to prepare in advance with the
words provided throughout the month.
4. Spelling Procedure:
 Each word will be repeated twice by the moderator.
 After repeating, the meaning and an example sentence will be
provided to give participants context.
 Each participant will receive chalk and a board to write their answer.
 After hearing the word, participants will have 15 seconds to write it on
the board.
 Once time is up, participants must turn their boards to face the judges
and audience.
 No corrections are allowed once the word is written.

5. Elimination and Scoring:


Point Allocation:
 Easy Round: Each correctly spelled word earns 1 point.
 Average Round: Each correctly spelled word earns 2 points.
 Difficult Round: Each correctly spelled word earns 3 points.
 Incorrect responses will result in no points for that word but will not
lead to elimination from the contest.
 The participant with the highest total points at the end of all
rounds will be declared the winner.
 In the event of a tie, a clincher round will occur, using additional
difficult words until a winner is determined.
6. Judging:
 Judges will verify correct or incorrect responses immediately after each
spelling attempt.
 The participant with the highest total points at the end of all rounds
will be declared the winner.
