1- Second Design Project:

Indoor Sports Hall, Extension of Alexandria Union Club:

• Due to great concern of sports as a muscular and a mental activity

improving health, well being and behavior of people in all ages, it is

Indoor Sports Hall on the given site has to consider:

• Relationship between project mass, Landscape and site context (built

environment, natural environment, human cultural and behavioural
aspects).
• Consideration of different approaches (separate approaches for each
team spectators – VIP and Referees approach) and distant views of
the building from Free Way and adjacent El-Nozha Airport Lake.
• Consideration of structural and design modulation.
• Such building will implement modular skeleton grid of RC columns for
services and basement level, RC slab for spectators seats, while
implementing wide span steel structure & light weight roofing to cover
playground and spectators seating area.
• Indoor transparency in public spaces, vertical visual relationship
through void space, functional, physical and visual relationship
between other spaces.
• Considering indoor-outdoor visual and physical relationships.
• Considering form and space articulation.
• Considering visual and physical privacy for private and restricted zones
like referees, couches and teams spaces (Lockers, Toilets, Showers,
Meeting Rooms….etc) and services such as storage and electro-
mechanical spaces.
• Modern character expressing function, architectural masses, structure
and facades, while being integrated with site and context.
• Using modern high-tech materials and building technologies
implementing light weight prefabricated materials or masses.

• Environmental responsiveness factors and implementation of passive

design and renewable energy concerning ventilation and natural light.
• Considering escape and fire exit stairs and doors.

• Overlapping playground accommodating Handball (20mx40m) (7
players per team), Basketball (15mx28m) (5 players per team) and
Volleyball (9mx18m) (6 players per team).
• Overall 1000 spectators seats (500 for each team spectators).

• Different separated entrances, reception & security (Each team
spectators – VIP & Referees).
• Lounges concerning each category.
• 4 Administration offices, each 13 m2 .
