Volume 2
PACE: Projet d’Appui aux Classes d’Examen
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Learning Situation n°2: Food and Health
Text: Food and health
1- Food provides essential nutrients like carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, minerals, and
water, which are vital for energy, growth, and overall body function. Carbohydrates and
fats supply energy, proteins aid growth and repair, and vitamins and minerals support
various body processes. Water is crucial for hydration and digestion.
2- A balanced diet includes these nutrients in proper proportions, along with fiber, to maintain
energy, prevent deficiencies, and boost immunity. For example, whole grains, lean
proteins, fruits, and vegetables provide essential nutrients, while water and fiber aid
digestion and hydration.
3- An unbalanced diet lacking or exceeding key nutrients can lead to malnutrition, obesity,
and chronic diseases. Overeating high-calorie foods may result in obesity, while
deficiencies like anemia and scurvy stem from insufficient vitamins or minerals.
4- To prevent food-related diseases like diabetes, heart conditions, or digestive issues, it is
essential to consume a variety of nutrient-rich foods, avoid excessive processed items, and
stay hydrated. Balanced eating supports good health and long-term well-being.
